  1. I drive stakes into the ground then anchor that to the stand using several ratchet straps.
  2. Same here most my ladders, tripods, box blinds are 10 -16'. I have one homemade stand thats about 16' up in a tree but because it sits at the edge of a ditch its height is probably more like 22- 23'. Theres really no need that i can think of to be 30-40' up in a tree.
  3. In all my years hunting there has be absolutely no need to go above 16". But thats me.
  4. Good lord who the hell would go 30' up in a tree to kill a deer? Thats insane, all my treestands are approx. 10" to 18' max.
  5. Looks like entry may have missed or clipped top of one lung, that exit looks like a heart shot especially with that forward down angle. Like i noted earlier, they can run far even with a centerpunch heart shot. Sometimes you have to take membrane off heart and wipe away blood to see the shot.
  6. I took 2 does so far, both from a treestand, both were complete pass thrus, both were center punch heart shots. One went a little over 75 yards and other about 100 yards. Their will to survive is extraordinary, once they are hit it takes literally seconds for them to go 100 yards. Even perfect hits may require persistence on your part. If i didnt hear the arrow crush thru bone, ribcage and them running with front legs low you would think they were never hit. Even after many , many years of hunting i still shake my head in amazement. I have complete respect for these animals.
  7. Doe for the freezer, another heart shot, went about 100 yards. Those slicks tricks are lethal, always a pass thru with those heads. Gonna fill the freezer fast with these big does.
  8. Very talented my friend, you make it look easy.
  9. The Dodgers need this kid to shut down the sox.
  10. Saw a real nice 8 trailing a doe at night and was just standing in the road.. had to tell my dad to stop short or he would have come close to hitting it. That was in 4F.
  11. Here are 2 doe i took last year with rifle and ML, this is as big as they come. Both taken in 4F.
  12. Yesterday afternoon, slick Trick through the boiler room. Amazingly went about 75 yards with a center punch heart shot. Also pics. of two roasts from this big girl.
  13. My cousin lives out on the island and owns a landscaping business, he told me he was taking a piss in some woodlot, looked down and found a scull and huge horns of a non typical. He sent me pics and it was unreal. Probably died of old age. Like you i travel 4 hrs. To hunt, but could be over the verrazano in 15 minutes and see some tremendous bucks.
  14. But in reality, who cares, you should have not given it any thought and just moved on. At least thats what i would have done. Making an inquiry is fine but insinuating this guy maybe a scumbag was in poor taste.
  15. This world would be so much better off if people would mind their own business and not be so concerned what others do. Guy wants to hunt over a trail on public land so be it. You want to small game hunt so be it. Wave and move on, its actually quite simple. How small is this prooerty that you are concerned about this one little area, must be a tiny peice of public land?
  16. Deer will move in any extreme, wether it be hot or freezing cold when it comes to perpetuating their kind. The female species has the ability to make males do silly things. A couple of my best bucks were shot on the tail of does in some of the coldest, nastiest days. The days were pretty cold, windy and snow blowing sideways. When its time., hot or cold, mild or windy, be out there.
  17. Heres Chase, my 8 month old Rat Terrier, smart as hell, fearless, tenacious and guards us and house like no other. Also here is Chase with his cat friend Lucia. What he does to that poor cat, hes lucky she has a lot of patience.
  18. I have a ton of exciting shots, but the one i felt most good about was when i was in a tree overlooking a beaver pond and a small deer came in about 100 yards away and was walking funny, hunched over. The deer immediately bedded in the cattails. I had no intentions of shooting it. I got down a few hours later and walked up to the deer and it jumped up and i could tell it was hurting. It ran 10 yards stopped and looked at me to say " please put me out of my misery". I put him down and turns out someone shot him near his spine and another shot in his foot. If i didnt shoot him he would have had a long agonizing death.
  19. For me 100gr. Slick tricks fly same as field point for both my bow and crossbow.
  20. Me and my dad have raised apple trees from seeds, about 10 and they are now roughly 5 years old and range from 6-8 feet tall with wide tops and have begun to produce alot of fruit this year. Thats just another option for you if your in it for the long haul and want to start with a specific apple in mind. We found this certain crap apple tree that produced tiny cherry size apples. Odd thing is my trees are producing much larger apples then the mother tree, must be all the fertilizer.
  21. Must be a man thing because thats 1st thing i noticed was that girl in white left of home plate. What a game, walk off for brewers.
  22. So sorry for your loss, my prayers are with you and your family.
