So whats a "shooter" buck.... For you.
NYBowhunter replied to Robhuntandfish's topic in Deer Hunting
Hate to break the news to you but there are alot of wmu's that already have AR, which by the way has nothing to do with shooting button bucks. By the rules and regs a BB is considered a doe and im sure are factored into part of the annual anterless harvest totals. Even if AR were to go statewide, how would that protect a BB? -

But its meat and very tender. I have seen some mature bucks do some pretty dumb stuff as well that got them killed. To each their own. Your sort of passing judgement when you say only kids and beginners should be the only ones shooting butron bucks. My theory is that we as hunters should not pass judgements on others as long as our activities are within the confines of the rules and regs. -

Well i know the OP said buck, but to be brutally honest i will shoot anthing that gets me excited that day. Im a meat hunter by far, have nothing to prove as i have taken my fair share of mature bucks. To me i really enjoy eating venison, making sausage, jerky etc., it has been and will always be about the hunt, quality time with family and just enjoying what mother nature has to offer. I LOVE THE FALL AND WINTER WOODS, theres nothing nicer and more peaceful. -
Im so very sorry first light, loosing someone that is dedicated to her family is never easy. Coming from an all italian household, i can appreciate their strong dedication to family, especially the children. My prayers are with you and your family. Send my regards.

I feel your pain bud, my 14 yr. Old Had tryouts for HS yesterday morning at 8am and today has a double header at 8:30 am, my 10 yr. Old has soccer at 9am and my daughter softball at 1pm today. To say the least my weekends are well spoken for. Every few chances i get to go to camp its a scramble to get a million things done, but i wouldnt have it any other way. Amazing what can be accomplished over a weekend if you have the determination and machinery. Keeps me very busy and very active.

I consider 4f upstate...lol..good luck. 4f is where i do all my hunting, can find some big bodied deer in 4f. Just for perspective here are 2 does from 4f i took last season. Both mature and like little cows. I hunt approx. 20 minutes east of oneonta.

I also have a problem with racoons in Brooklyn where once it gets sundown my kids and wife refuse to go out in the yard. Had 4 coons on my back patio over the weekend, that when my 10yr. Old son went out back they were looking in at him through the patio door and scared the living daylights out of him. I need to do something because the population is out of control. They also make a god awful sound at night when they fight and play with each other. Cant tell you how many times they wake me up in the middle of the night. They seem to think that me pool and deck are theirs to enjoy...lol...getting to the point may need to do something drastic. Had this been upstate nothing a 22 cant fix.

Ladder stands , are they secure?
NYBowhunter replied to Northcountryman's topic in Hunting Gear Reviews and Gear Discussions
I always use extra ratchets around the platform area and also use a chain with lock for extra support and sense of security. And always check ratchets and replace when needed. I leave my ladder stands out all year and paint or touch them up every few years. I also place wood or flat rocks under the bottom rung/feet to make it level and prevent from sinking in. -
What knife will you be using for hunting this year ?

Im doing absolutely nothing today other then going in the pool. Saturday i had to install a new washer and dryer, connect new gas line, new water lines, stack the washer and dryer, new shelves in laundry room, flush out the duct work, add new duct. Then yesterday i did a job for my neighbor, clean out their over grow yard, Gave the sawsalll a good workout, trim some bushes and pull a ton of honeysuckle vines. When all was said and done i filled up 17 of those large black contractor bags and 3 large bundles of wood. Thank god my 14 yr. Old son helped with carrying them all outside. Had to go up one flight , carry through their house then back down the front steps to stack them. Thats why im doing nothing at all today!!!!!!

non-food plot hunting area improvement
NYBowhunter replied to sailinghudson25's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
I maintain 6 food plots on 41 acres, which i need to mow 2-3 times during the warmer months (gave the last cut last week). In adittion, i have close to 100 apples trees throughout my property which i try to prune a standing each year during the colder months. I also rotate fertilizing my soft mass trees. As many apples trees that I have i still like to plant and cage apple trees and have also planted mulberry trees. I maintain several wide trails throughout so i can access most of my property with the tractor or utv, some areas are steep so im constantly clearing falling branches and trees. Also like to cut back trees to open the canopy for more disired soft mass trees. When i prune trees or open an area, i never just throw the branches anywhere ,i create massive and many brushpiles so that the little critters like rabbits can hide in. I almost always try to do something to the property when im at camp, wether it be small or big. -
Sorry i didnt see this thread earlier. My deepest condolences to you and your family, you will alll be in my prayers.

Everyone give a warm welcome to Chase
NYBowhunter replied to NYBowhunter's topic in General Chit Chat
Heres Chase almost 7 months old, smart as a whip, very obedient, loves the family and gets along great with the cat. Pictures are from this past weekend at the cabin, he loves to be free, went through stream for first time with not a care in the world. He has absolutely no fear and is very protective of his house/property and family.
