Enjoy the day. Btw I'll be strapping those LW sticks to a tree next week ! I took the wife and daughter to Elmo's last week as well , she ( the daughter) moved into an apartment near by. The wife unfortunately will be still living with me....

I give you credit for going into the woods today ! My wife and I spent first half of the day on the lake, second half by the pool. I hope to hang my cameras next week......

Are you ready for the 2015 Hunting Season?
Nomad replied to burmjohn's topic in Hunting New York Annoucements and News
Good luck! NYSP ? I've been following your quest on here and wish you,the best. I trained in NYC for one month, I flew back to Roch each week end , the dept paid for two , I paid the other two. Four months seems long I guess but it'll,be so worth it . -
Some are better at deer hunting , others at spelling basic words and using an occasional paragraph .

Rob while I may in theory have all that time to kill a big buck, in practice I don't . Around me within say 1/2 mile or a bit more from my spot there will be 4 or 5 slobs taken prior to opening day of gun . Last year in bow I had 6 encounters with large bucks( out of 14 hunts) , most a little out of bow range , one ten yards but bad angle and to much brush . Such is bow..... I had zero encounters last gun season . I'm a hunter , not a "bow hunter" or " gun hunter" or "ML Hunter ", but I know when my best chances are and hunt accordingly. I don't expect to catch a Bass in a Trout stream and I don't expect to see the same number of large bucks in gun much past opening day .

Call me un- American , I'd rather rake leaves than watch football .

You can use or do anything you want. The issue is are you willing to pay the cost ? In this case the odds of getting caught are very very low and the cost is not much of a deterant either. Which is why so much of it sells.

Take a deep breath and let it go, confronting other drivers as some kind of enforcer of bad driving can go real bad fast when you run into guys who just are Looking to crack a skull .

As far as heat, I'll pass does just so I don't get sweaty, I can shoot does on over 50% or more of my sits so I'll pass when it's warm, if I got a long drag across plowed fields I'll never shoot a doe in that spot as well. If it's last light and I'm working the next day , pass..... Heck I'll pass a doe if I feel I'd be late for watching Survior on tv with our friends. Now a large buck it seems I get one in close opportunity in bow season ( last year bad angle and too many limbs , never even shot) so yes I'll get sweaty, spend three hours dragging the darn thing across 16 inch deep muddy furrows, or try to get a guy at the last minute to cover my shift the next Day if needed . I might even miss Survior if the wife will dvr it !

I have in fact taken many a shot at a cougar , the gym's crawling with them mid morning!

Id like to hunt naked from a stand with a spear and I'm not kidding, but it's not yet an option . But I use V bow, rifle and sometimes ML. In years past I've used a .44 mag handgun too. I take a doe or two for the meat and pass younger bucks, so some years tag soup on bucks. With our kids out of the house two deer is plenty for us. Some years I take another for a friend if it comes at the right time. When do I take does? Who knows it changes often, sometimes early bow like the first or second day, other years I've passed all doe in bow.

You've never seen me throw a baseball..... 20,30,and 40 for me. I'm having a hard time thinking of a bow stand where I could shoot 40 though , most I can't see 40 yards. Don't think I've ever shot a deer in bow over 25. I don't bow hunt much open woods, ymmv.

I believe the DEC changed things this year, you can no longer hunt pots , only pans. Sorry could not resist ..... Where the heck are the smiley faces ?

Interesting subject . Look at Rolex, they only sell to their authorized dealers . To be a AD is difficult as Rolex is very concerned with maintaining their prestige . Rolex sets the price with a 38% profit built in for the AD. No discount can be given to the customer although sometimes a few % can be squeezed out on certin models . But the AD has to buy a certain number of the watches, many smaller ADs can't move that many per year, so they sell them for a little over their cost to a gray market dealer who, then resells them to the public way below ADs selling price. But the buyer does not get a warranty and often the sr# is removed , if it is ever sent in for service Rolex keeps it ! Btw the best is to buy pre owned off the Rolex forums.

Depends on the company's policy on it. If they ok it , rock on. I used to work for a safe manufacturer , we could buy "seconds" at a fraction of what new ones sold for. We all resold them to friends and friends of friends for $25 or so profit ( in the '80's) . The company was glad to get rid of them. My wife still works there, there were times I got $700 gun safes for $100! I had guys lined up at their shipping docks and we filled up pick ups and trailers with them. Pretty sure they knew Larry wasn't putting 20 gun safes in his basement .

[quote name="WNYBuckHunter" post="393824" timestamp="1439227456 BTW guys, who says MLs are the goal here? Maybe its a little more simple, like full inclusion of Crossbows. Just speculation on my part, but I do know they want full inclusion. They have made that statement in the past. Doc the dec says. Jeramy somebody from the dec was on Lonsberry today. He said this is a two year trial after that if doe numbers don't go up there will be a " new" ML season. Lonsberry pressed him for that seasons dates, asking before or during Bow? , he played dumb , well perhaps he wasn't playing .... But he would not say either way. Which is telling to me.

Jeremy somebody , Hearst perhaps ?

Most bow hunters are also gun hunters. If I shoot doe in bow ( which I do many years) I won't in gun..... Zero sum game. The dec can sharpen their pencils and sharpen their pencils but the numbers will add to the same amount . Seems like Culver beat me by a couple minuets .....

Yes I would be upset. Last year I passed countless young bucks waiting for a mature one to come in bow range , I ended up taking two doe. I have had meat in my freezer every year since the mid '80's and want to continue that. Doe for meat bucks of a certain size for the challenge . Some years it's doe only in our freezer. I can live with a buck every 3 out of say 5 years but I could not with no meat each year. Edited to more reflect my buck %.
-
They say this change is for two years after that , if it does not "work" a new ML season . When pressed if that would be prior to bow, " oh we don't know yet " Ya BS. I have Heard from many bow hunters on this , let's just say there will be a large increase in Bucks killed the first two weeks in more southern zones......

Well,ok but my wife is retiring at 62. I'm 56 and going at 58 mostly because both my shoulders are shot , I have a pinched nerve that makes my hands numb and I'm trying to avoid a second neck operation. Oh and then there is that hernia and the hip and knee that hurt and sometimes go out ( knee) the last time at a highrise fire ,oh and the arthitus in both feet. I've gotten a few people out including carrying them down ladders, not to sure how that would go at age 65 but if you'd like we can meet up in 9 years and have a go at it . Oh and the ones I hear using the word civilians when referring to the public are the former military guys, but honestly nobody I know outside of the Internet world care. I'm sorry you never saved enough to retire early too, we could live just fine without my pension which will be perhaps 25% of what we will live on , leaving our biggets nest eggs alone till RMD at 70.
