Two of us hunted for a number of years on a plot about that size at the base of a hill on one side,a swamp on the right side 90 degrees to that, slightly down hill 90 degrees to the left and pretty flat behind us to the road.We always stayed a safe shooting distance apart but new where each other was.We took our share of bucks and does from that spot.

Formerly from L.I. there are pleanty of places to fly fish both fresh and salt.Nothing like hooking into a blue on a fly rod. Many fellows fish for stripers also with fly rods.

Store your ATV for the winter
Gthphtm replied to ants's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
First I would put Stabil in the fuel tank and run it for awhile,Pull the spark plug or plugs and fog the engine with Stabil fogging oil or a marine fogging oil, then drain the old used oil and put in fresh oil put a new oil filter on.It would not hurt to spray the switches and elec. connections and the winch cable if you have one with silocone spray, and armerorall the seats and plastic, put a little extra air in the tires, put an old tee shirt in the exhaust and make sure the air filter is covered (Mice love to hide in there in the winter. Also take the battery out ,I had one freeze and crack on me 2 years ago.. -
No bunnies around by me the fox ate them all going fox hunting, maby there will be some bunnies next year.

Clean the metal, plastic, wood with Acetone (the one sold in pain stores or paint section of a hardware store) not nail polish remover it has oil in it.I used different colors of krylon spray finish with a satin clear finish. It is holding up for 3 years now.I cut out different shapes in paper, squigely lines, leaves tree branch shapes and overlapped them.

Gthphtm replied to RifleSharpShot's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
12 gauge with # 4 Dead Coyote round, good for 75 yards, one shot and they do not move anymore. -
I had a Tika in 30-06 it was a good rifle for the money.I am going to tell you what the salseman told me and I wish I had listened to him.Save Your Money and Buy a SAKO. You will never regret doing it.Much better quality parts.I do have a 270 WSM now,Great caliber for here and good if you plan to go out west to do some hunting. It is a total costume built rifle and I would have saved money by buying the SAKO.

The nice part about the late ML season you can take a deer of either sex.The way the weather was this year it would be nice to have another week the way the weather is now.

Sure glad that 4P is on the list, will see if it works in a few years.Still not going to stop the pochers though. They found a deer body near me at the end of archery season( small caliber gun shot) ( no head) but its jewels were there. All year I had a nice less then a year old button buck which turned out to be a 4" spike.I sure hope someone did not shoot him because he would have been a dandy next year.

Anyone ever try/use the Square Up Torque Indicator
Gthphtm replied to Deerthug's topic in Bow Hunting
Another thing to get you to spend money. With a Compound bow set up for you,It breaks at a set point,to poundage that you draw and when broken is set,If you are holding it correctly. You should be able to hold the bow at full draw long enough to release the string,to shoot at what you are aiming at.Just sounds like another gimmic to me.A recurve or long bow is a little harder to hold at the same point, but as said above practice, practice. -
I hunt my own property,Just to old with a heart condition,go out when I am ready to come back and have lunch and go and sit till just before dark. This year might have been different then others because of the warm weather, but the deer on my property seemed to walk to one peticular spot every morning and stay in that area all day long until around 4:00 pm.I would ride past them on my ATV on the way back from lunch and they would get up walk around and lay back down. This went on the hole archery and rifle season.

How the heck is firing a cap going to clean a bore out,If anything it is just going to put more dirt in the barrel.Take a patch or mop and clean it the right way.
-
People have been shot at wearing brown carharts people doing the shooting said it looked like a deer.
-
Wear a baseball type cap with the brim facing forward, not that mocho look with it in the back and it eliminates the glare with both yellow and dark polarizes lenses.
-
We would find at least 1 every year, either people to lasey to track them or just do not think the hit them.

I nave one like you have a link to,It has been set up in one spot for 2 years and now it is ready to go to the dump, first year it changed to a redish color, after that 3 of the fiberglass poles snapped, this hunting season the stitching is coming apart.I find it too low to sit on a folding seat and draw and fire a bow, might be ok for a rifle. It does not spook deer,I have pictures from my trail camera of them 6 feet away bedded down.I would look for a better brand and one a little higher, with a better support system for the outer shell.

Two True stories,First one happened many years ago on a very popular part of state land at that time, during Rifle season,I was watching this nice buck coming down the side of a hill to me,I take a shot at it and hit it,all of a sudden this guy starts cursing at me from a tree stand in full camo and said are you trying to kill me,now he was 20 yards.away from the deer and I said no not you the deer which I just did.And are you cursing at yourself for not wearing any orange so that people could see you up in that tree. The second happened four times in the last week.I am much older now with a heart problem so I use my ATV to get around my property which is on the side of a hill. The ATV is Red.My yellow Lab loves to come with me and ride on the back, all hunting season I tie a large Orange scarf on his neck and I wear a orange hat also.He was trained not to bark at and run after Deer,I tell him they are your friends and no to scare them. Each of the four times a deer walked by us as close as 10 feet stopped looked at the 2 of us and gust kept on walking, not spooked at all.

Master lock Python cable lock.It holds the camera on a tree and secures it to the tree,Been using them for the past 6 years..

Many years ago that topic came up. So we went to a well traveled trail, there were some tree stumps sticking out of the ground on the trail from logging,we took turns doing it on different stumps, later on a few deer were walking threw,They stopped at ever stump each sniffed them and walked over to the next one. They were not spooked at all.
-
I used all of that in the past, laundry soap, body soap, foot powder, spray.I have not done it for a few years.Sunday I had 2 does sitting 20 feet and 30 feet from me for an hour, they saw me but I was sitting up wind of them,One came 10 feet away snorting and stomping trying to get me to move, I just sat still and it went back to the other one and bedded back down.
-
I have one for quite a while now,I leave it up all year in the same spot,it is a dog house blind,I would get one a little larger in width and height,if you had a regular chair in it you would hardly be able to see out the side windows.I have set up a trail camera along side of it and have deer bedding 6 feet away from it.They get use to it being there.

Just my thoughts,# 1 We are on the back side of the Moon.# 2 The DEC gave out Too Many Doe Permits last year. They just about wiped out the heard by me last year.
