They look ready now. If they get too big the leaves get stringy and the bulbs lose their flavor. JMO. This is the earliest I have harvested any, usually get my first batch on opening day of turkey and pick for 2 weeks or so after that.

Gun a day in July

I bought 2 today from my local club. -
I completely forgot to cook the ramps for Easter dinner yesterday. Tonight I sautéed them in olive oil and salt and pepper. When they were almost done, I added 1/4 cup of water, covered the pan and steamed them until very soft. Delicious! They cooked down to almost nothing, so next time I will make a bigger batch.

I am in the hotel business. It is a family business and I have spent pretty much my entire working career working for our family. We also have a large vegetable and fruit farm, I don’t do too much on that end of it though. Except for the last few weeks, it is a fun business and I do enjoy my work! But these last few weeks have not been fun, and certainly not enjoyable!

Rob, I am sure you are very proud of your son! And you should be be! -
I do not know about freezing, but I pickled some a couple of years ago and they were fantastic! https://honest-food.net/pickled-ramps-recipe/

Are you growing only tomatoes? Soil may be too acid even....best to soil test. There are inexpensive kits you can buy online or your local County Co-op Extension can do it.
-
If there were pines there before, you should get a soil test, or at least throw down a bag of lime there.

I am saving on haircuts, missed two so far, so $50 savings there. I did have my daughter give me a trim, and after watching some YouTube, she did a really nice job. She got a $20 tip for that. Still working so everything else pretty much the same, except I bring a lunch as opposed to going out for it 3 or 4 days a week.

Well, you are keeping busy!

We are being told that if we call back an employee on unemployment and they don’t come back, they become ineligible for benefits. Supposedly, that is how we get everyone back to work. -
I checked my patch and found some for tomorrow's dinner. I am definitely going to try the ramp pasta, maybe with burnt butter sauce. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk

Unemployment on steriods
Otto replied to Rattler's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
If their employer calls them back and they do not report, they become ineligible for benefits. That’s what we (business owners) are being told, but it will not surprise me if NYS decides that won’t apply. -
@Robhuntandfish I looked at Oneida Diehards and some of the people are saying State Launches will be open, since there is no “face to face” like at a pay marina. Hopefully that is true!

Easy Peasy....., drop can of meat into sauce pan, add half a jar of BBQ sauce. Shred meat, warm through. Instant shredded venison sandwiches! So delicious and easy.

I’ve had a pair or Red Wings for years and years. Still very serviceable and super comfortable. With a heavy pair of wool socks they are plenty warm. For the past 2 years I have worn a pair of Muck boots. Just easier to get on/off, and they have been warm enough in the weather I have hunted in. But if the Mucks spring a leak, I will go back to my Red Wings.

Biz, depends on what plant and your location. We used to sell lots and lots of bedding plant vegetables and in CNY we would always advise people to wait until mid-May and look at the weather pattern to decide. Some years you just have to wait. Tomatoes in a container or pot can be outside during the day and dragged into the garage at night if you want to get a jump on the growing season. If you put it into the ground and a frost is coming you can just cover up your plant with a blanket for a night or two. In a small garden, it is easy to do with some stakes. Early seeds can go in now - peas and beans for example.

I don’t know what your self-employment is, BUT, You may be eligible for the $10,000 Disaster Relief GRANT (not a loan), and you may be eligible for the Payroll Protection Program. Contact your Bank or lender, or a CPA. They will be able to tell you what you can apply for, in addition to unemployment. No harm in making some phone calls to find out!
