  1. Please keep in mind that Andrew Cuomo desperately wants to be POTUS at some point. If he throws his hat in the ring in 2020 or 2024 people across the country need to know exactly what he's about.
  2. I'll be laughin' all day over that! Thanks buddy!!!
  3. It's just about freezing here in Flyover, NY. But the sun is shining and the firewood is dry. March has been nasty, and I'm looking forward to putting this winter behind us. After feeding the wood stove for months, I haven't had hair on my knuckles since October.
  4. Welcome to HNY, Adam95! You'll find that the hunting course, and hunting in general, is less about age than it is about attitude and desire. I've passed my experience on to younger folks, but I've also learned a lot from them whippersnappers when I listened. Enjoy the class, and post pics of the harvest.
  5. I grew up racing. Not so much cars as motorcycles and Karts, but still... It will be soon enough that someone/something pushes me around in a wheelchair that I don't have control over. I don't want to rush it. FWIW, I don't even listen to the radio while I'm driving. Zero distractions. Except for the buck that jumped into my headlight last year out of nowhere. ;-]
  6. Gun vault of the late Charlton Heston. It's roughly the size of my house. The guy didn't screw around.
  7. On your new site Wooly, are you the short, hairy guy with the antler tip necklace in those beach videos? And what are you doing filming in Borneo? I love the new site, but I'm a little confused. And is Growie filming, or does Paula have a part-time gig? PS. Come back Growie, a lot of us miss you.
  8. I'm sorry for your loss, Rob. It's hard to lose even a 'casual' friend. I still catch myself glancing over on summer afternoons to see if my elderly friend Stan is sitting under his maple tree with a six-pack, and it's been over three years.
  9. It wasn't so much about crashing them as it was about collecting them and finding the room for them. They were big airplanes.
  10. I gave up on R/C aircraft when the 35% scale airplanes drained my bank account. I have several friends who still race the quads around, though. Pretty cool stuff. Enjoy!
  11. We didn't complain when we were paddled by the gym teacher when we screwed up and deserved it. The "safe space" was just being a good person.
  12. Hawking was a brilliant theoretical physicist who managed to survive for more than 50 years with ALS. He had been given a two year life expectancy after the diagnosis. He may have believed there was no God, but he didn't buck those odds on his own regardless of what he believed. ALS took a good friend of mine in just over two years. I miss him. Man plans, and God laughs, I guess. I'm neither offended nor particularly amused by the meme. It is what it is.
  13. Some of the most knowledgeable people on this kind of work are at the Cornell Experiment Station in my city of Geneva. Google Cornell University (and maybe agricultural extension programs). They're really good about helping people out, or at least pointing you in the right direction for further information. Best of luck to you.

    Bullhead

Bullhead 'season' always coincided with the smelt run. It's the only time we intentionally fished for them and it was usually toward the end of April, if I'm not mistaken. Probably a bit earlier now. When the sun heats up the ground a bit, and the tributary creeks and ditches are warmer than the lake, go for it. Like Pygmy said, night-crawlers are the best bait, and they're readily available at that time of year. They're also free if you can hunt worms effectively.
  15. It's always all about the maintenance. Trailer, ATV, tractor, house, vehicles, guns, kids..... It's about the maintenance.
  16. Quite true. I spend some time in the politics section there because I respect many of the posters and enjoy hearing their views from around the world on different current topics. Without media filtration. Enough with the politics, back to the wood-burning.
  17. The only problem I have with your post is waiting for the rounds to dry before splitting. If they're split immediately they dry much more quickly. But you're right about the Fiskars and the tire trick. For anyone not aware of this site, arboristsite.com has an excellent section on everything related to finding, harvesting and burning firewood. Lots of helpful and friendly people from all over the world, if you stay out of the politics section.
  18. On the other hand, had Obama's anti-coal policies been able to continue...... Just sayin'. I know several people who heat with coal, and they love it. I'm not arguing that point. If I had to buy my firewood I'd switch to coal in a heartbeat. As it is it costs me less than 50 bucks a year to heat my little place with wood, so that's what works for me.
  19. The really tiny wood stoves like what would be required in a blind are an absolute PITA. You'll be spending more time feeding the stove than either sleeping or hunting. Trust me.
  20. It's all about POLITICAL CORRECTNESS. If it's allowed to go much further it will doom us all.
