  1. I will be out with one boy, (cousin in-law) on Saturday. And my neighbors boy on Sunday. We will be in!
  2. Awesome pics!! I need to get a camera setup for some outdoor photos. It probably wouldn't be a rig like this.. unless i became rich someday lol! Maybe the fiance will let me take her Cannon out... Think i already know the answer..
  3. Sweet! I posted a couple pictures in the "hunting related pictures" that had good bumps on several bucks heads, and one that had a both sides holding on yet. as of 3/20.
  4. This gun with any newer winchester turkey load (besides the double x magnum) patterns awesome in #4 shot... ext. Range, high velocity, and these longbeard xr shells are an amazing turkey combo for me..
  5. Nice buck! I love it when i big buck does what we want them to do!
  6. Thanks, I have only been in the woods 2 or 3 times all winter/spring. i was lucky enough to hear a couple of gobbles, the first week of march. Was hoping to get out this week, but ill wait until the snow melts some now.. I have 2 cams out. and looking to put another one or 2 out for some turkey action. Might set one over a dust bowl when things dry out
  7. Also with it just a touch high at close range, i dont have to hold high at long range when the #4 pellets begin to drop. They are still right in there Heres the load setup @ 65 yards
  8. I totally understand.. I aim a little high for the reason of not having to pick out the pellets out of any breast meat, even if the shot was accidentally low. I have yet to miss a bird (knock on wood) even the ones under 10 yards. Im sure there will be a day i do lol. ive also "jerked" the trigger in excitement when the bird comes running in and wont stop for anything, and shoot quick hitting"low" and shooting half the beard off.. (still had 12" left on it ) I used to do as you mentioned. but with the pattern is so tight and aiming where the feathers meet the neck.. i blow every feather off the birds neck and sometimes chest, when they're within 20 yards. which leaves me with no bird to mount. The 2 biggest birds i have killed where too close and aiming there destroys my chance of getting a full body mount. So for that, i aim a little higher than normal. Thats just me though
  9. Peacock call works the best my place in 8P for locating during the day. There are so many crows around that they dont gobble to them unless they are already fired up. or as already said, the pilleated woodpecker works great. My best locating call in the evening is a pot and pan. The birds very rarely gobble to anything in the evening at my place. So the pots and pans shock them pretty good. lol
  10. I have done this before as well, with an old worn out hen decoy, she had a tendency to keep wanting to get in the fetal position out in the field, think she scared more than she attracted. lol so id freshly paint the head up a little and touch a shell off. was fun watching her "spin on the pole"
  11. I shoot a red dot on my turkey set up. I also remove it every summer to let the kids and family shoot clay pigeons and such. So in April when i put it back on, ill shoot it at 10-15 yards first. that way i can fine tune it more precisely by knowing the center of my pattern better, rather than guessing where the center of the pattern when its opened up some at 20-25 yards( depending on your gun). then ill shoot down range after the pattern is centered on the birds upper neck/head area. That is just the way i have always done it.. My Mossberg 535 with a 22" barrel and factory XXfull choke and Longbeard XR 3.5" #4 shot, will pattern good on paper out to 65 yards. Not saying i would shoot that far, but on paper it can do it.
  12. Indeed they are. While i was sending pictures to the computer from the phone, they seem to have lost some Quality. but still captured the moment at least. If i can convince the fiance, I want to bring her Cannon t3 out in the woods with me this spring in the turkey woods. But i think that will go over like a fart in a church... even though i bought it for here, lol but its worth a shot..
  13. My neighbor at Camp, sat over one of our food plots at the sunrise of Saturday, March 12 with his Nikon camera and snapped some cool pictures. A few bucks with what looks like new growth already starting, and the 2.5 yr old 9 point still holding on to his head gear.. pretty neat pics i thought.. so i had to share
  14. Thanks, I am going to do another card pull this weekend hopefully and set another cam or 2 out.
  15. There were a few guys standing over the bridge at Naples creek this morning at 4:00AM when i drove through on my way to work.
  16. I plant RR soybeans by Real World Wildlife Seed Co. and they are, just as they say they are. they grow the same only, you can spray them with round up obviously. your grasses and weeds die, and the beans thrive (hopefully) Would like to try the RR corn this year
  17. Ive always wanted too build one or two and do so successfully, but I have yet to do so. This spring will be the year. We actually have a pavillion on a fneighbors piece, that doesnt get used anymore besides for storing farm equipment. So where the fire pit used to be, they dust themselves there, all the time. In fact when the calling and run n' gunning isnt working. ill setup under a piece of farm equipment and fill a tag. Kind of a last resort option
  18. I was just curious, if anyone here has ever made a turkey dust bowl, I'm going to try and attempt it here soon. I have a few that I'm aware of on neighboring properties, but i would liek to keep the birds even more on my property, rather than on theirs.. I was thinking of finding a dryer spot, clearing debris just off the edge of the woods and near a food plot possibly, in a safe zone.. and then dump some sand and maybe mix some fine pebble stones.. about a 6ft diameter spot. basically make a replica of what ive seen on neighboring properties.. In the dry months ive seen them dust in bare sandy spots of the food plots, but id like to "concentrate them" some more onto my piece and get some more turkey trail cam pics... Just curious if anyone has made one successfully..
  19. ive always been against x-bows, up until last fall. I'm not against them, but I have zero interest in them whatsoever. At first it was the simple fact that they were easier to use than a compound or recurve, for the reason of there not being as big of an issue with proper form, anchor points, consistently practicing like there is with stick and string archery. I've noticed it all boils down to the person firing the weapon. I guarantee I can out shoot many people with my Mathews and somebody else using their x-bow. It may be a easier and possibly more "ethical" way of harvesting but the odds are basically the same as a compound( given we are all true sportsman and we practice and practice more).. I actually heard of more deer lost to x-bows in and around camp this past fall, due to people thinking they are guns that shoot "arrows" or "bolts" and can sling them 70-80 yards through the woods.. wounding the animal and never retrieving it. But "making x-bows legal for all of deer season", as long as this doesn't open a door to have early ML seasons or ML's mixed in with Archery equipment. I will not stand for that. i dont see much of an issue. Id prefer it to stay the way it is, but im not really against full inclusion anymore, as long as the guns stay in gun season and not during or before Archery...
  20. I was actually thinking about looking into getting a x-bow for my dad this year, due to his age, and ability to hold back 2 full draw. But tragedy came, and he recently passed away in a horrible car accident, that wasn't his fault.. So for myself and dad as well, ill stick with my Mathews bow, and carry on our tradition. We both loved archery too much to ever want to change. I may even do the opposite and attempt the Recurve archery tackle out. My father always wanted to get back into it and never got the chance with work and such. He has a recurve set up somewheres, i just need to locate it, that being said, i will for him. Maybe someday ill break down and get a xbow , just to have and someday hunt with... but that day is to be determined.. I really have zero interest in x-bows
  21. Or just obey the law, its not worth it for many reasons..... My best friend(my father) and his best friend were just killed in a car accident coming home from fishing on March 11, 2016 in Farmington, NY when a man with his 4 children in the vehicle, ran a red light while speeding, on a road within the town he lived and I'm sure he had traveled dozens of times before... Its just not worth it Just be observant and cautious of others....
  22. Here's the right side from the 7.5 yr old "ghost" ive been seeking.. I have only been in the woods twice and was not shed hunting.. stumbled upon 2 other "spike" sheds
  23. Ive actually seen quite a few birds around in my travels this year already. The couple times ive been in the woods this early spring I have heard and seen them every time. Cant wait.
  24. This year i had my heart set on getting some trail cam photos of some red heads strutting. After doing some TSI and hinge cutting early march i threw up a camera where i figured the birds might start scratching... heres a few from the card pull Will be putting out a few more cams soon..
