  1. What do you mean by editing? I also have 2 cams out on a newly acquired property that i am supposed to have all to myself, I hope lol hoping trespassers have not snuck in, and grabbed them. they have been there since the beginning of April. Hate to say it but im nervous, The land owners are rarely up on the property. Did my best to hide them..
  2. Nice, I've got a great turkey gun. But I saw these and was totally impressed. Can use smaller size shot have more energy and even better patterns due to total number of pellets compared to before. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  3. Im just looking for a successful clover plot, i mean some weeds are going to always be present, not a big deal. i just dont want them to overrun the plot. Il lmow it come June sometime, drought and weather providing.. They are indeed Oats, They are Forage Oats. Winter hardy. I planted in September, If late summer/fall planted they will grow again in spring. To me the deer only prefer them when young and tender only..
  4. I did not know the arrest was illegal here. I do know herbicides you need a license to do on other r people's properties or as a business to be legal. Guess I was just looking for ideas. Just want to make this plot better than the neighbors lol Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  5. So last fall, in September i planted my "Murder Plot" in Whitetail forage oats and Whitetail clover, Its coming up awesome but it also has some mixed weeds/grass growing too. My first question is when should i mow to kill the oats, and let the clover take off? After the oats go to seed, or can i mow just before that and kill them as they turn "stemmy"? Oats are about 5inches tall right now and the clover is close behind... Last option/question, is about the herbicides, slay and arrest herbicide for weed and grass killers, if the mowing doesnt take care of the weeds? i know slay is for broadleaf weeds and arrest is more for grasses, but can they be mixed and sprayed together or do they have to be 2 seperate applications? Id rather not go this route but if i cant control the weeds ill do so.. i have the equipment.. Or any other ideas are appreciated, believe it or not its actually my first Clover plot i intend on keeping and maintaining for several years.. instead of rotating brassica to clovers.. Thanks
  6. on the youth hunt back in April, i saw my 7.5 yr old buck and 2 younger bucks. I knew it was him because of a distinct scar he has. Late April he had dang near 3" spikes already with crazy mass, and his 2 buddies might have had an inch of new growth,. cant wait to see what he looks like in august!
  7. Anybody here use this in their turkey loads? Ive been doing some research lately and have come to the conclusion that i am going to purchase the shot and start building my own turkey loads for next year. I have a few buddies that re-load everything so we are going to try it. The results are unreal in the patterns they throw and the energy they deliver, compared to lead loads. My gun patterns #4s unbelievable but i thought it would be cool to try these out and build my own loads, something i have never done before, and something it seems no one else uses. Maybe theres pros and cons to doing this but.. i think it would be fun. Ideas anyone?
  8. Making regular season shorter, and adjusting others seasons as well, is what would make this state a true trophy producer, like the rest. NOT ANTLER RESTRICTIONS. Just look at spring turkey season here, the dec wont let us hunt them until AFTER the majority of the breeding has at least begun. To give the hens a chance to be bred, and increase turkey populations. Its basically the same thing, by keeping the best and most efficient weapons out of the peak breeding cycles during the whitetail rut...
  9. Couple more, the one bird got me to chuckle pretty good lol. I have got another cam set up in one of our famous kill spots.. that my buddy took a big bird right in front of on Tuesday morning. he said there should be some good pics on there..
  10. MANBEARPIG? lol, totally piggy Looks like its feet and legs resemble a pigs more than a fox
  11. Congrats on your LEGAL bird. I myself shot a hen with a 9" beard in my first couple years turkey hunting. I knew something didn't look right on the bird, but i was new to the game and i saw the big beard swinging, KNEW it was a legal bird(as you did) and squeeze the trigger. It was the first hen i have ever seen with a beard, actually ever heard of having beards. now i see hens with beards at my place fairly often.. Mistakes happen, everyone makes them at least once, unless your bowguy... critiques every bodies wrong doings on this page.... but nothing bad happened, you seemed to do your best at judgments and you harvested a somewhat rare bird.. congrats! We live and we learn... Since my bearded hen, i wont shoot one for the fact that they carry eggs and keep the population up. But you can also think of it as turkey management too. Its like the rut only for turkeys. if hen numbers are high, your thinning the competition if it makes you feel any better Might make that tom easier to call in... again Congrats, were all not experts at everything..
  12. We did this a quite few times before when there's a few guys on one smaller parcel. We kept the calling to a minimum. and rotated the calling around per position, especially if there is a bird gobbling.. Every half hour or so just a few soft calls, if nothing was answering. kind of like a hen or 2 monkeying all around the field. and we would communicate via text in case one of us heard a bird answer. We helped each other several times call in a bird for the other guy to kill. We've also killed 3 birds in one morning in each setup lol
  13. Took a fast break around 1030 to go grab my.coffee from the car, got back didnt put a deek out this time, sure enough i Called in a longbeard at about 11am and he hung up at about 80 yards.. wished I had put out a deek.. oh well this week might use a 1/2 day or next weekend I'll attack again Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  14. Zero gobbling here.. neighbors are all around so I just hung tight with a feeding hen decoy out in my murder plot.. passed 9 jakes so far Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  15. Noisy but fairly dry in the blind this morning. The wind is pushing the rain through the window dang near horizontally.. no birds seen or heard yet Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
  16. I love hunting the rain, Ive killed many birds in the rain, even in straight up downpours.. ill sit for awhile during the rain. We have several fields they tend to hang out in and around during rains. so i concentrate on them. Im guessing being in an open field they can hear a little better, plus the worms and such are coming up through the soil id imagine..
  17. Awesome photos Wooly! If you do not mind I would love to make those 2 gobbling toms a wallpaper?! lol
  18. These are awesome pics, and i actually got the ok to take my fiance's cannon t3 in the woods this spring. ill kill em with the lens instead of the gun.. lol or hopefully both. im excited, hope the quality of shots i get are 1/2 as good as these! Thanks wooly
  19. I will try to roost a couple saturday night. But opening weekend our hill is packed with guys and gals. So i usually have to hold tight. We got some guys that think they own the whole hill , and if nothing is working on their side. They go where they want and will cut off a bird that may be working in our favor.. gotta love these turds.. Ill be Trying to get my fiance her first bird ever sunday morning. We will sit on the "Murder plot" with a couple feeding hen decoys and soft calls sparringly. They normally roost either side of us about 300 yards away... Good luck to all
  20. I make all natural blinds with the branches and trees around, for the most part.. A few weeks to a month in advance. but when i know the woods are quiet and the neighbors are not around i want to try this out this spring, The Turkey Fan blind.. the videos are quite wild... Again it would only be when i know there is no one else around and only at camp... basically on a weekday lol
  21. not bears, but still neat. this family became quite tame in and around camp.. As i ran the tiller, mower or brush hog or anything theyd come out and just watch me everytime. when i got off they'd actually walk to within 20' or so.. until people started shooting them on drive bys
  22. That is awesome! I have got a couple trail cam photos of a mam bear in the background and 2 or 3 cubs jacking up my trail cam. they ended up breaking the strap and the bracket holding it around the tree and dragging it several yards from the tree.. Wish i could find the pics. I have put out several cams to catch coyote pups, fox pups fawns you name it. I saw 5 or 6 fox pups playing around a puddle of water on a tractor path the other day right off the road on the southern tier expressway. Also saw a dead newborn fawn and its mother on the side of the road hit by a car.. I enjoy capturing these newborn critters in there natural environment.. that's probably why i own 12 trail cameras lol .. this stuffs addicting!!
  23. Not sure if anyone lives or travels Route 21 South thru Wayland, NY and Loon Lake area, But i saw a Mother bear and her cubs last night before dark, I believe there were (4) cubs, and they were not much bigger than the size of a bowling ball. I did not stay long for the road had guard rails and no where to park, and kind of dangerous section of road. The bears were about a 1/2 mi. south of Loon lake on Rte 21. She was also seen by a customer of ours right there in the same area, early yesterday morning. I dont know much about mother bears with cubs and how far they travel when they are that young. But i would imagine they wont go too far too fast. Wish i had a camera on me for some photos, I would have had some great ones. But for anyone in that area, keep your eyes open, id imagine she wont be too far away from there. Its my daily route for traveling to and from work. Wish i had a camera on me for some photos, I would have had some great ones. Just thought it was super cool, and had to share for anyone in that area. And to remind myself and anyone else to bring a camera or bino's, you never know lol.
  24. disking a few times before planting is almost like using round up for weeds. not quite as good but it works. as the others guys stated. better to have the dirt worked up more than not enough.. in my opinion
  25. Our saturday was a little bit of a let down, i didnt get a chnace to roost any birds friday night so we setup on a great roost spot. The weather was quite crappy, Thick fog, rain and some wind.. that didnt clear out til close to noon, and we could only hunt til 9 saturday morning. Well long story short, not one bird flew out nor gobbled anywheres nearby. until about 630am a bird gobbled behind us about 600 yards out in or near the "big" field... We made a move and setup on what was atleast 4 or 5 birds.. sounded like full fans mixed with jakes.. couldnt see with the fog. Well we tried our hardest to work some magic but whether it was us or the weather.. the deal went in the birds favor.. they gobbled to every 2 or 3 of our calls but seemed to have no interest in committing. The boy still had fun watching the squireels and seeing the several dozen deer we encountered. He kept saying i hope we get one, i hope we get one. I told him i hope so too, but just dont get upset if we dont. the day will come that we get you one.. until then were gonna learn these birds, and thats the best part. He smiled and agreed. that ended our Saturday hunt, later that day after my events ended he asked if i could take him out during the regular season so he could sleep in on sunday instead. lol, i said happily that would not be a problem. so Sunday was a sleep in day for myself. was bummed a tad only because the weather was much better, and the action may have been too, but we will chase them again soon.. Congrats to all the kids and mentors that successed, youth seasons are awesome.
