  1. Some of you confuse what hunters want and what is best for the deer herds. The same arguments where given for not killing does 40 years ago...
  2. Great thread... I have always believed these kind of stories are the most exciting.
  3. 3 most years that I get a buck.. (I take a mature buck about every other year)... but always 2 doe during late muzzleloader.. one that I keep and the other to donate to the venison drive.
  4. nope... never gonna happen... same with golf!
  5. LOL What's funny is virgil and Early, our resident dems, refuse to admit how true the post is... and it is spot on. Easy to tell which side of the fence they're on.
  6. Yes and very few gun owners knew what was going on... those laws were squashed by the likes of the NRA and other 2nd Amendment right orgs...but to Docs point, numerous gun laws have been passed over the years without so much as a look from most gun owners. Most simply just can't be bothered.
  7. Prayers to you buddy... great that you're back on track.. good luck for a great deer season.
  8. That's really it in a nutshell... the "they'll never take my guns" people are non-existent before the laws are passed... failing to join the NRA or contact their legislator to voice their opinion... or even inform themselves on what's going on so that they know who has their best interest at hand when it comes to preserving our gun rights when it comes to casting a ballot on election day... apathy is our worst enemy in this fight. You can't wait for gun laws to be passed to decide its time to be pissed.
  9. Yeah.. for stationary use they are great.. I've never had good luck with the clipon when I was moving... deep woods off works better if you're going to be moving around.
  10. I have a buddy that has that affliction... avid hunter and has taken a lot of deer.. he absolutely can not gut a deer without breaking out, he always has someone with him when he hunts to gut for him .. he can drag as long as he has a drag rope... he can eat venison but can't even touch a deer/
  11. I think you misunderstood ... I was more talking about scent masking products and scent blocker clothing... and I didn't mean the pain kind of hurt...I meant that using other scent control items wouldn't necessarily hurt the cause of trying to reduce human scent Oops sorry, I almost forgot...dude!
  12. Playing the wind still works better than any scent control gimmick... that being said you must remember that you will never be entirely scent free to a whitetail despite all the scent control in the world... but keeping your scent masked can't hurt.
  13. Here is some good info on how hunting seasons were formed in NY... It starts on page 153 http://www.dec.ny.gov/docs/wildlife_pdf/histdeernewyork.pdf There is some other good interesting info about whitetail history in NY as well
  14. If the DEC decided to have anything to do with controlling the reproduction of whitetails as a means of population control it would solidify my opinion that they do not really care about the conservation of whitetails.. and are just puppets carrying out the will of people that have no idea what they are doing. I can't believe that any legit biologist would think birth control is a good idea... if so I challenge his/her credibility.
  15. They did some fancy trimming there Doc... much better than some landscapers I know..!! Some people pay big bucks for that kind of work...lol
  16. The idea of birth control has been considered many many time as a means to control over populated areas where there is a high concentration of homes and hunting is not allowed... always with the same result... the idea gets the axe as soon as smarter people explain all the negative things that could happen by messing with the reproductive systems of animals. They usually end up having law enforcement shoot deer in numbers or open a controlled bow only season with unlimited tags or just do nothing.
  17. For me the statement, "Stacking the odds in the animals favor." is what it's about. That is where the real challenge is... growing whitetails and keeping them on your property with food plots may be for some guys, but not for me... I like everything as natural as possible... I have gotten where I don't even want to know what bucks are on the property... I'd rather seek them out while hunting and take my chances on maybe finding one that fits my criteria... I shoot a 60# Martin recurve, cedar arrows with Zwicki, 2 blade, 125 grain broadheads. No sights, no frills... I hunt on the ground using only natural cover... I've been doing it for 12 years and even though I've passed on at least 100 bucks I have yet to get close to one that I wanted to kill... most guys would have hung it up going that long without taking a buck... but it's the opposite for me... each year I get more and more excited that this will be the year... when it happens it will be the ultimate experience for me.. yep, it's all about the challenge!
  18. I don't use the camp much in the winter so I decided not to go the woodstove route... I'm going to heat with 28,000 BTU propane stove for those chilly nights in the early spring and late fall.
  19. Still in the process of finishing the inside.. I will post pics as it progresses.
  20. The system worked perfectly in this case.... even a juror that was looking for some way to find him guilty of something couldn't do it because the system wouldn't let her... the evidence presented was not there to prove the already innocent man guilty... crazy how there are those Obama, Sharpton and Jackson types that would disrupt the system to have things their own way to further their ill founded careers.. regardless of the evidence.
  21. Wish I could say I still had even a hint of buck fever... any shaking I do is after the kill... My experience is more like playing in an exciting sporting event against an old rival and the score is tied with little time left on the clock. Totally concentrated yet full of anticipation of how it will all turn out. Its an exhilarating experience.. never shaky or nervous. My eyesight is my worst enemy now.
