  1. Obsession Phoenix. Moog broke her in. I hope to carry on with more deer.
  2. Oh yeah, I got spirit. But what is Utube?????
  3. Based on almost 50 deer seasons, my opinion is, November 10th, what I call the 'magical' day. Same day every year. It's that day that you will see a mature buck just standing out in the open with or without a doe. Or he'll come cruising to you with his nose to the ground grunting. Or crossing the road in front of you, seemingly oblivious. All the classic rut activity usually culminates on or about this date. Of course the few days before and after, November 10th, are very good too. But the "average" of the magic day is always Nov.10th.This is by far the best week of the season. Moon phase, and weather, actually makes no difference at this time of the breeding period. If too warm, the activity will just be more at night when it's cooler, or if too much human pressure, it will move to a quieter area. But the best rut activity will always occur during this time. Ramping up slowly to reach the pinnacle on the 10th, and slowly declining after. And of course some seeking and breeding will occur here and there, from mid October, into January. But November 10th is that 'magical' day. Plan accordingly.
  4. Thanks for the tip! I work at the school. Next time I gotta go bad, I'll go check out the nurses office!
  5. I'll be pacing and pissy at work. Even though I dislike bow hunting in the rain. Would always get a Deer Search call after a rain, when some hunters blood trail got washed away.
  6. Looks like you could still induce fear, and wreak havoc, from the defensive line buddy!! Somewhere out there there I'm sure, is an ex QB that still feels the pain when it rains!
  7. Sounds like a solid set up for sure. Obviously, you thought this through, to help put the odds in your favor. You should do well from that blind my friend. I'm certain you will have Biz's seal of approval !!
  8. I have the Primo's mono, bi and tripod triggersticks, And love them all! One of them will work for almost any hunting or shooting situation. The tri-pod is great for the crossbow, in ground blind hunting. Just set the forend on the rest and the butt in your lap, and it's no hands comfortable, and you are still ready for a shot, with little movement. I have never had any problems with the triggersticks at all. And feel they are worth the extra cost.
  9. Be it from a tree or on the ground, hunting with the wind in your face. A deer coming from behind you is likely to bust you. It happens..... because those darn deer don't always follow the script!!!

    Musings

The musings of a true sportsman. .....................
  11. As a dedicated ground blind hunter myself, I think you got a great spot there Chef! You set up in a pinch point, with the prevailing wind in your face, on a known deer travel spot. You are brushed in real well to break up your outline, and allow some slow movement, to draw your bow. Seems to me you checked all the boxes! Nothing beats the thrill and challenge, of hunting deer with a bow, on their level, eye to eye, and up close. And don't worry about them getting too close. I've had to let them move off a bit before I could shoot them! Good luck!
  12. Anytime you get in the Albany area, you let me know my friend! Lunch is on me. When I'm in Maine, I think of you! We love it there. I think you love it more.
  13. Grandson and I were at the farm today. Fall colors are coming on strong now. The most beautiful time of the year in NY I think. Feel free to share some foliage pic's here!
  14. Another vote for the 7mm\08. Very mild recoil, and devastating on deer. Adult size rifle is what I'd go with for your son. Savage Axis and Ruger American, are just two of the low budget rifles that shoot as good today, as some of the custom rifles from back in the day. Of course if you have a bigger budget, there are a bunch of options out there to choose from. As far as make and model. And the 7mm\08 will surely not disappoint, for what you are looking for. These are among the best of times for you and your son. Enjoy every second of it!!!
  15. My biggest expectation this year, is to be with my grandson when he kills his first deer! This is his year! Second, is to be hunting with Moog when he kills a giant at the end of October. Lastly, I may go all or nothing, on a buck I've got a three year history with. He'll be five years old this season. And yes, he's still around. Last two years I've been within 30 yards of him, late season. But no buck tag. I really don't need to kill anything, to have a great season.
  16. Ouch!!!! Pretty good chance you'll look like Rocky Raccoon tomorrow morning!
  17. Every time I drive by it on the Thruway, I wonder how the hunting is, and if there are any big bucks in there???
  18. My new to me bow this year has extended my hunting career. Going from 65 to 85 percent let off was a huge factor. It allows me more time to hold and let the pin float. Though I could barely draw it when I picked it up. 2015 Obsession Phoenix set at 50lbs. Still plenty fast enough to get the job done. Smooth and whisper quiet too.
  19. Heal up quickly young lady! You have a bright future! This is only a small set back. You'll come back even more determined! You go girl!
  20. Easily see him getting $450M for eight years from the Yanks. Or anyone else with the $$ to sign him. Bett's is one of the top players in the game. With no off field issues, and not prone to injuries, he's the full package that any team would love to have. Also one of my favorite players to watch, since Jeter retired.
