  1. Another vote for the summit viper. Very comfortable and safe feeling. I have one that hasn't seen use for awhile. Wish you were closer, we could make a deal.
  2. Hey man, it's me! grampy! I thought that was you up there! I gave you a wave but maybe you didn't see me? Not much on the cam but a small buck and those doe you are watching. Just so ya know, my wife has names for them. Give me a few more minutes, and I'll have this stand strapped in. Not as young as I used to be, and I'm afraid of Heights too! Figured if I grunted and groaned enough, you'd come over and give me a hand? Almost done. Then I'll head out to your truck, drop the tailgate and sip suds till ya come out! Just yell if ya need me buddy!!!
  3. Welcome! Pull up a seat and join in!
  4. I'm posted up in front of my work computer. Sending good luck to all out there. Sure wish I was. C'mon....somebody bloody an arrow!
  5. I don't bowhunt in the rain very often. And only when it is a very light rain, with no heavy rain in the forecast. Also only take high percentage shots. And my max range shrinks from 30 yards to 20. With the wet leaves and ground, a light blood trail can be diluted quickly and made almost impossible to follow.
  6. Let em roll and let it ride burmjohn!!!
  7. I'll be at work until Saturday. But will be following along with all who are out there. Best of luck to everyone heading out! Waiting for pic's!!!
  8. Early season tracking can be very hit or miss, as I'm sure you know Tom. The next few calls can be totally different! Wishing you and the deam team safety and success! Love this thread! Let me know the next time you visit John and Jolanta, coffee's on me!
  9. Nice mount! Very cool, and one I've never seen before! Who did the work for ya?
  10. I've had so many moments of frustration, over the years hunting deer myself. I like hearing stories from others, to get a chuckle. Just like when I look back on my own, and have to laugh. But I've learned my lessons well, with all the screw ups I've had!
  11. Love hearing stories like this! Thanks for sharing!
  12. I have a set of Nikon bino's 10 x 50 that is nice and clear. Very good in low light too. I keep them in my hunting pack and they get knocked around pretty good. Had them three or four years now, with no problems. Spent around $200. You could spend ten times that. But why? Unless you are hunting plains game in Africa, or hunting in the western USA, where long distance glassing is needed. For deer hunting in NY, my cheap Nikons are all I need.
  13. Back at it again tomorrow! Will add 39 new hunters to our ranks! I will also be open to learning something from them, as I did last time. I find this to be very rewarding for all involved.
  14. Reminds me of my boss! Do you know him??........ Nice work, as always Matt.
  15. No excuse for any business to treat a customer like this. And no matter what kind of business it is, once I'm lied to, I'm DONE! As there is no way a good business person, would jeopardize the integrity of his business, by lying to customers! So sorry to hear this from a fellow sportsman. And I'd have no problem naming this business. It may save someone else, all the trouble the OP went through. Sadly this isn't the first time I've heard of a taxidermist being unscrupulous. When you find a very good one, treat them as good as they treat you. Give good reviews. And always leave a nice tip!
  16. I'll be working all next week. First opportunity for me will be Saturday. Sunday will be with my grandson for youth weekend. Hopefully to get his first deer! Monday on my own again, as he has football practice in the morning and baseball practice in the afternoon.............sigh
  17. Happy Birthday Maytom & NYBuckhunter27.............here's to you!........
  18. I have a saying, "shoot what you like, like what you shoot". That encompasses anything from a yearling doe to a monster buck. As long as you are happy, never mind what others may say or think!!! We all hunt for different reasons. One size does not fit all, when it comes to shooting deer. I honestly feel that EVERY deer is a trophy to be cherished. That said, I've killed a pretty good number of deer over the last 45 years. From small button bucks, and doe, to some respectable mature bucks. I don't need to kill any more deer, as I've nothing to prove. Yes I love the meat! But I'll survive if I don't have any. Over the last year or so, I've even contemplated hanging up my hunting hat. Perhaps when my grandson is on his own I may do just that? The time spent in the woods, the quiet time, the smells, sunrise and sunset, the cool breeze in my face on a frosty fall morning. This is the part I love. And if I shoot no deer, that's ok by me. But when I do decide to shoot one, I try for a three year old or older buck. Rack size doesn't really matter, as long as he has a little age. That to me is a bit more of a challenge, and more of what I "like" at this point of my hunting journey. One thing is for sure. When I make the decision to shoot a deer, any deer, I'll really "like it!!!
  19. Awesome! That's what it's all about! Congratulations to your son! A beautiful buck! No doubt you are beeming with pride! You taught him well Dad!
  20. No reading for me on stand. As it is, deer just seem to "appear" sometimes, even when I'm looking for them. Always something going on in the woods to keep me entertained. Or I'm checking to be sure the hint of a breeze is still on my face. Or I'm debating with myself, while I sit on the swamp edge, not seeing deer. Thinking there is probably a bunch of deer over by the oak flat stand!
  21. This will be my 3rd season using Evercalm. I've yet to see an adverse reaction from a deer coming in close proximity to it. I used what I had left over last year, from the previous year. Didn't see any noticeable difference. Got a new stick ready to go for this year. I have not used the estrus scented one. As I'm not looking for an attraction scent. Just a cover scent, on my boots.
  22. Was the guest for dinner??
