After a health issue last year, I asked myself this same question. The answer I found, in the eyes of my grandson and my lifelong hunting partner. As long as they hunt, so will I. I'm still acquiring hunting "stuff" at 61. Most all of it will be passed down or given away, to complete the circle for me. Though I've lost a step, and slowed down a bit in the woods, I don't consider that a bad thing. As now I savor each hunt and experience, much more than I did in my prime. As long as I can roll out of bed, to put on my boots, I'll be heading out. Even if it's just to sit there and smile.

Few years ago, I was fishing a tourney on the mohawk, below lock 13 at Fonda. My wife had just bought me a rather expensive rod and reel for my birthday. While making a long cast, to the seam of fast water coming over the dam, the rod just flew out of my hand! GONE!....... Back home after the tourney, I'm unloading the boat, and the Mrs. comes out and asks "how did you like the new 'pole'?" I told her I loved it! Felt like nothing at all in my hand! I love it soooo much, I want to order another one!

Everyone turns, as a big black pickup, with sissy carpet pulls up, in a swirl of dust. Out steps a big man, and with a grin, grabs a very fine recurve bow and one arrow. He nods to all assembled and says follow me, I got this. All get in line and followed the big guy into the field. All except wooly, who is smiling as he picks up the still flapping Rhode Island Red. And stashes it in his coat, for a dinner and future skull carving.

Some very good replies here, considering our resident 'expert' went to roost. Though I am far from an 'expert', I do have an observation or two I'll share. In the hill country where I hunt, during winter, and this time of year, turkey's will keep to lower elevations, for the most part. As the weather warms and snow melts, a lot of them will move to higher woodlots and pastures to roost, feed and nest. During nesting season, most hens will stay within one square mile. The boss gobblers will pretty much stay with the hens, within their area. It is most challenging for a hunter to pull these boss gobblers away from the hens. The lesser toms are the ones that will travel farther, between hen groups, looking for their own 'harem' or easier breeding opportunities. These toms, are the ones most likely to come to a hunters calls.

A Deer Search dog and handler are not trained to look for humans, alive or otherwise. That is up to specially trained dogs, and people in law enforcement, or other agencies. As you know, our property borders Thatcher Park. My hunting partner and I, have more than one hundred years combined, of boots on the ground, throughout the park, as well as our property. And know it all like the walls of our homes. My partner and I offered our help, but were denied. Before the snow got deep, we did search our property, in places where we thought the hiker could have ended up. But nothing. I will say, the search that went on in the park, for ten days or so was very extensive and thorough. Perhaps there is more to it than law enforcement is letting out? My hope is he will be found at some point. TF is going through a tough time. We should just leave it at that.

Couple bow seasons ago, I took a spill and had a compression fracture in my lower spine. Although the fracture did heal on its own, my back hasn't been the same since. Seems to "go out" more often now. I do bend and stretches every morning before work, and throughout the day when I can. Exercise does help, especially as we get older, to help keep things in check. One thing for sure, back pain can put you down, like not much else can!

Alternate, ice, heat and take Aleve, to reduce inflammation and pain! If not better in a couple days, go see what the Doc says. Hope ya feel better soon my friend.
