What a wealth of great info in this thread!!! I will have a reloading kit by the end of this week. Can't wait to get started!

I grew up with a single mom and six siblings. But we lived in a rural area with lots of woods and fields. Those woods and fields were my escape from a very early age. I can remember seeing deer, and trying to see how close I could sneak up to them! At first they would be gone quickly. But over time, I was able to "almost" touch them, or at least get closer, before they ran off. This worked, and improved with most all the woods critters too. At 12 years old I started working at the farm down the road, after school, weekends and during the summer. This, shortly after their son was killed in Vietnam. The farmer and his family were very kind to me. I even worked off the purchase price of my first 22 lr from him. The farmer and some of his buddies, who were also farmers, were really into deer hunting, to put meat on the table. But it was always a big deal, when one of them shot a deer with a 'rack'! They would all get together to retell the hunt over and over again...lol. And I would sit on a hay bale and LISTEN to every word. One of his buddies was the father of my lifelong hunting partner. We at last, were able to tag along on deer hunts. Mostly to do small drives and drag deer. But these old guys took me under their wing. And with a great deal of patience, taught a stubborn, hard headed kid how to deer hunt. The first time I hung a spike buck in the barn, and told the story of that hunt, over and over, was one of my proudest moments! All those wonderful, gruff, old guys have passed on. I am forever thankful for what they did for me. Not only teaching me to hunt. But setting an example, of the man I would become. Now my hunting buddy and I are the 'old' guys. And over the years have been mentors to a few young, stubborn, hard headed hunters. I still see myself in their eyes, as they sit on a hay bale LISTENING, to the story of a successful hunt, over and over.

grampy replied to Billdogge's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Looks like I just started another hobby. Will be asking lots of questions soon. From all you reloaders out there! Like Al said, be super cool to kill a deer with a round I made up myself. Thanks that will be a good start. -

Thank you Al. I'm really thinking of giving it a try. I know this is a real good deal. And I've dealt with Bill in the past, he's a stand up, great guy! Not sure what to do here. But what Al says, makes alot of sense. -
So sorry for your loss maddie. I truly hope that time will somewhat ease your pain. Try to keep positive, and hold dear, all those sweet memories. Until the day you fish together again.

Hornady Classic Reloading Kit
grampy replied to Billdogge's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Besides this kit, what do I need to reload 7mm-08 and 270 cartridges? I know nothing about reloading. -
Thanks for a great post Rob. Keeping alive memories, and making new ones with the ones we love, is one of lifes joys. The most loved, are the ones who leave behind the fondest memories. For in the end, that's all we leave behind.

Awesome! Making memories! Have fun and good luck!

Thanks buddy! Close is good enough for me. Just makes it fun to follow along. And I was lucky to get a cam from the Super Bowl! Thanks for sponsoring the bracket pool! Congrats to the winners!

.....that turned out delicious! There was a big enough pot of stew, so grampy invited ALL of the HNY members, past and present, to assemble, for Easter dinner. Where we all smile, get a bro hug, share in the bounty, and relive the wild story, on how we all got here! Beer and purple peeps for dessert everyone! Enjoy!........

With the Villanova win last night, it looks like I won the brackets at work! I had Virginia and Nova in the championship game, with The Wild Cats taking it all. Forty some people were in it. Though I will receive no money, as it will all go in a fund to help struggling, low income students, I do have bragging rights to my colleagues! Especially my buddy the athletic director! Anyone else still in it with their bracket?

There ya go! Nice shooting buddy! Deer will fear you this fall! Love those Black Widow's. They are beautiful bows. Sometimes, with archery, going back to basics, or what has worked best for us in the past, is what gets us back 'in the zone'. Nice to see you shooting consistently well again! Make some space on the wall. I'm pretty sure you will need it.

Xola. After doing what she loves best. Blood tracking a deer.

Yeah me too. On a good day, I can shoot three arrows!

You ever get over to the right side of the state, look me up! We can team up for a hunt or fishing adventure! I'll probably keep ya out of trouble, but can't guarantee that. And the beers are on me!

Happy Birthday Biz! Everything rolls your way today my friend! Enjoy it all! Hope AJ, hits one out of the park, in your honor today!!!

Happy Birthday! And glad to have ya join us!

....left the buttock wounded bubba, standing there, with mouth agape and eyes wide, with a sign around his neck that said, "I talk turkey". So the two mismatched riders scooted away at full speed, and a cloud of dust, right to Culvercreek hunt club! Slamming on the brakes, doing a 360, with tinfoil hats askew, there came to their ears a sound, that gave them chills to the core. Turning slowly, faces covered in snot and dust.......

I may take my 5wt. fly rod with a minnow streamer, through the snow drifts, to a 34 degree water temperature, fast running, chocolate milk colored, hot spot. Make two or three casts, before tangling my line, on a back cast, in the nearest bush or tree. Before muttering under my breath, #@€*×¥+..., break off the line, and head home. To some marshmallow peeps and a handful of jelly beans.

....agent grow sitting there drinking green tea, with 247 cords of redwood logs neatly stacked and covered. Agent Biz just stood there in disbelief, scratching his head and nether regions, and proclaimed....

Glad your ok Dan. That would have scared the bazoogles outa me!

Congratulations Larry! I have no doubt, you left a lasting impression on all those "snot faced kids"! By being a great example of what a fire fighter should be. Wishing you a long and healthy retirement, my friend.

hahaha....see how much I've slowed down? The deer don't even notice me stumbling around! Thanks buddy. It's hunts like that one, that keep me coming back for more.
