I have killed quite a few turkeys over the years. And at one time was really into it. But turkey has never been one of my favorite wild game meat. Just ok for me. At this stage I like to call them more than kill them. Getting one in front of my grandson is my main motivation now. But he is playing on two baseball teams, (regular LL and travel) with almost 70 games to be played, plus practice, finding the time to get him out there is hard. And he's not really into getting up at 4:15, hunting until 8:30 running home to be at the field by 9:30 and have a double header. I have been out once to call for my buddy this year. Close, but no turkey killed. Plus getting the bass boat ready is the main focus for me right now!

Why do you find turkey more exciting or as exciting than deer hunting?
grampy replied to Bowguy 1's topic in Turkey Hunting
Turkey hunting is a pastime. Deer hunting is a passion. For me. -
Lost a friend and good hunter this weekend.

Condolences sent to you and Joe's family. -
Great pic's! Really cool birds! It's so neat to watch them hunt.

I love hearing the barred owls calling back and forth! One of my favorite sounds of the woods! They are just such awesomely cool birds

It's taken just about five years, but I've lost a total of 100 pounds even. I'm 6'1" and at my heaviest weighed just shy of 300 pounds. Weighed myself last night at 195 pounds. That is after a vacatiom in Maine eating very well, but not real healthy! The biggest change for me was cutting out as much sugar (I'm diabetic ) as possible and eating less food. That's it. But I stay very active too, walking in the woods, swimming, playing ball with my grandsons, snowshoeing in the winter, using the push mower more than I need to. It all adds up. Grow, there were many times I would hit a plateau and seemed like I wasn't getting anywhere. Just keep at it! I'll be 59 soon and if I can do it anyone can! Hoping you become a big loser!!!.......in weight of course.

I think I might have kissed "her" one lonely night, back in the day.

No bashing from me either. Simply put, thats hunting! In another thread, the question was asked, "have you missed"? All the experienced hunters commented that if you haven't missed, you haven't shot at a lot of birds. Sure, it doesn't make it any easier to swallow, when it happens. But in my years of hunting, I've learned more from my mistakes, than successes. Best of luck to you Belo, when you get back out there!

Great shows but Last Alaskens is my new favorite.

For me it's keep it as simple as possible. My set up is strictly for hunting, and the whisker biscuit has been flawless for the better part of 20 years. If I were a target shooter, the drop away is the way to go. But when a shooter deer is within my range, the WB is one less thing I have to worry about.

As we all know, things can change in an instant! You go through hours and days of boredom, for that one intense moment! Keep at em!

Happy Birthday ! To you two!

I always enjoyed your posts. And I am sure you gave more brightness to this site than you know. It seems the world we live in now has a certain percentage of people who are quick to criticize and have no empathy for others. Perhaps to cover up their own shortcomings, wich are usually numerous. Hope you reconsider and stay or come back after a period of time. Until then, shoot straight, and keep your top nott.

I've missed. Hasn't everybody?

If this deters even one poacher from doing their dirty business, it's well worth it. The fines for the crimes have been much to low. I'm happy to see this!

Grinding it out paid off! Congratulations on a beautiful tom and an awesome hunt!

I think you explained it pretty well. Cool thread!

OK grow, what do you think it is? Or what do you know that we don't?
