  1. I went fly fishing in catskill creek in oak hill and didn't spray my stuff down with sawyers or spray myself with deep woods off and when I got home I got a tick on the back of my left arm . I went turkey hunting this week and sprayed all my stuff down my mask[ I HATE camo paint],hats. gloves. my camo outfit.socks and all my shirts that I intended to wear. now its warmer I will not take a chance.
  2. wow so glad to hear about your son. My niece from the university of tenn with a degree in special ed for the hearing impaired so I related to how proud you are
  3. wow what a nitemare to deal with insurance co. . About 2 years before sandy allstate dropped me I panicked and called them [forget about the broker all he wanted to do was sell me life insurance] and they said oh I lived too close to the ocean I told then I live 3 mi from the ocean and a mile from the bay, I went crazy cause I had a mortgage and the mortgage co said if I don't find ins that they will and i'll have to pay big time . I called the nys insurance agency.and got no answer ,I was so lucky to find a local ins broker that got me insurance but it went from $850 to$1100. Well have dealt with metlife which has some kinda deal with the company I work for and with aarp which is total b/s I would wind up paying MORE if I went with them and even if I bundled . So where I stand now I have national general for my autos and the Hartford for my homeowners and am paying $1400 for the house and neither will take the other so I could bundle. They are in business to make money and use any excuse to get the most out of you, The nys insurance did get back to me and said they would investigate. A few years later I got a notice that they had a class action suit against allstate but it never went anywhere.
  4. wow amazing i went upstate and hunted tuesday got up @4:00 in the field by 4:45 am started to call and got 2 gobblers but they wouldnt come in. wed. I set up where i had seen[ i kid YOU NOT] 50 turkeys coming out of the roost during gun season last year but nothing so i was going to try another spot and was coming down the trail on my atv and i see 6 of them in a field running to the woods i say oh there they are. So i went there and i heard a gobble so i knew where i was hunting in the morning got there early .I didnt even call and i had a gobble so i walked a little and set up and called and he gobbled but never came off the ridge he was about maybe 50 yds away but like i said up on the ridge so i couldnt see him. Then i heard another gobble but much deeper tone so i knew it was a different bird. so i moved closer big mistake i should have went up on the ridge and every time i called he gobbled then a hen starts putting and purring well we had a 3 way conversation for like 20 mins but she went to him and that was that. So a 1/2 hr later i go to the top of the ridge and down into the woods and called well there was gobbler #1 and i had him coming but BIG mistake i left my gun and stuff where i was so i went back to get them and came back and he took off .Well i had fun and it was a learning experience
  5. i swear by sawyers i treat ALL my clothes that i go afield with it and never had a tick. while i have you guys a friend in work got a bad case of poison ivy doing yard work, any of you do anything about that, i see it on the edge of the fields so its a little concern . Going in the fields early before light i really dont want to wind up like him.
  6. oh yeah my dads favorite a boat is a hole in the water you put money into
  7. the old adage the best times you own a boat is the day you get and the day you get rid of it
  8. i posted this before my dad always said you cant eat antlers
  9. no thats why i did it that way the salmon does drip but the jerky not so much it dries. oh yeah and BEFORE i smoke anything i let it sit outside and let it dry its called developing a pellicle its so the smoke adheres to the meat .If its not windy enough i put a fan on it but this damn long winter thats no an issue
  10. i made this in my masterbuilt smoker. Jerky [beefi prefer venison used what i had] and a salmon 180 degs @ 41/2 hrs .I know its a little high but it was 43 degs and from past experience the outside temp affects the smoker [ i gotta buy the blanket that wraps around the unit they sell] The jerky i cheated i used high mountain seasoning my daughter gave me .the salmon i made a dry cure 1/2 maple sugar ,1/2 cup brown sugar ,1 cup of salt[ going to use like a little more than 1/2 cup it was a little salty not much but tone it down a little] and i basted it with maple syrup my friend john a farmer up in durham where i hunt makes maple syrup, my wife said it looks like motor oil .i told her just taste it and she loved it. in the early part of the season the sap is very light then it gets darker as it get warmer
  11. wow congrats you should be proud thats a great achievement
  12. my dad had alot 1] you cant eat antlers oh yeah you cant see deer from the house and a serious note one that he drilled into me and that i live by 2] you cant call back a bullet
  13. hey you you got my master built bring it back lol. Nice i buy salmon and smoke them i would love to smoke some trout now that its open. My friend a local where i hunt taps trees and makes maple syrup i hot smoked the salmon with a maple glaze IT WAS AWESOME!!!
  14. yeah man we put it down and with a lot of prep work and we put the deer deterrent around it so it would get a chance to take and it didnt work. you can rent the equipment and you have to test the soil for p/h to at lest 3'' down and fertilize too and still try and keep the deer away for it to take
  15. you are so right i seen it too with tenants .like i said people given the opportunity will try and get over. My nieghbor rented to a guy and his daughter and had nothing but problems finally got the marshalls and got the guy out and he rented to my daughter and never had a problem .He rented up stairs to section 8 which is welfare and shes a slick one you dont put up heat i sue,you dont shovel and salt i fall i sue, they know every trick in the book .He thought cause its the state you are gaurenteed the rent on the first you are but it comes with headaches. Watch pacific heights with matthew modine and Micheal keaton in it .
  16. yeah man people will try to get over if they could like you i have a hundred horror stories both with tenants and land lords.I work for the gas co. in the city and i seen land lords take avantage of tenants all the time. Really who looks in the basement and see what their gas and electric line goes to what meter. I was working on a gas line outside the house so i went to light them back up and the hot water heater wouldnt lite now the tenant wasnt home so i left the meter off .It drove me crazy then i knew the landlord put the water heater on the tenants meter .Another time as a matter of fact a more than a few times the tenant comes to me and says i was on vacation and got a$ 300 gas bill and i only have a stove all i tell them is talk to your landlord . believe me i seen it all
  17. thank you guys yeah he's asking$750 with the bausch and lomb scope. I'm really leaning towards a bolt action though especially with that price.I love my 30-30 i shoot leverlution 160 gr ammo its amazing i get 3shot groups the size of a quarter@ 100 yrds so 150 yrds im very confident doing. With 170 gr Remington corelok im very lucky to get 11/2'' so i never go beyond that with that ammo.Plus with the 30-06 you get more of a selection in grains of bullet weight .My dad always used 180 gr but from what he told me it goes from 150-220 grs for deer
  18. hi everyone i have a question a friend of mine is selling a browning blr in 30-06 i respect you guys opinion. So what do you guys think about the gun and it has a bausch and lomb scope and what do you guys think about the scope too.I own a marlin 30-30 so i want to get a more distance i hunt in fields now and not in the woods so i want to know if still being a lever action would i still be able to shoot as far as with a bolt action .Thank you
  19. wishing everyone a very happy easter and of course the family too
