  1. He's still out there....Go kill him!
  2. after this season I can definately contribute to this thread. I was hunting my farm for the last week of bow season. On my way to my stand one morning before dawn I was walking down a thick, tight, brush choked trail. I heard a grunt to my left and immmediately shined my light towards the sound. Standing there was a big 8 pointer I was after. When I hit him with the light he popped his head up and then proceeded to "bird dog" me with a low drawn out grunt. At this point he was only 10 yards and closing the distance. I let out a loud "hey" and smacked the bushes with my bow. He snapped his head up again, but kept coming. At this point I just about crapped in my pants. Thankfully the wind shifted and he got a nose full of me. He turned around and ran up the hill only about 40 yards and I kept walking along the trail. I could hear him grunting and paralleling me all the way up to my stand. He peeled off when I was 50 yards to the stand. Once the light started to crack I hit the horns, snort wheezed, bleated, grunted, everything! He never did come back. That was the most intense encounter ive ever had with a deer.
  3. "I shot a big buck this year and I will be going to many conventions and dinners because of the animal I shot. I know it will be a cock fest and I will probably not go because of that reason." Soooo are you going or not???? Honestly your post just sounds like you want to brag about your own kill. If u dont like the sight, HIT THE ROAD
  4. well how did you guys do? I had a small doe and a nice 8 point come in friday morning but i had no shot on the doe. Saturday morning saw one deer way out but couldnt get an ID on it. And that lady was no problem at all.
  5. Congrats on the deer! Nice job and way to stay at it!
  6. I made a trip up to my farm after thanksgiving and found signs of road hunting. big pile of hair & blood in the road, drag marks leading to a tree with a slug hole through it and hair & blood all over. The deer was shot from the road. I filed a report with DEC but they told me theres nothing they can do now. Sad.
  7. D&D who told you this info? Because if its reliable I may say to hell with this hunt and go somewhere I know someone wont be walking around...
  8. damn thats a big buck! Good luck getting him! Dont forget to keep an eye on the other deer when the big one is coming into range! They will ruin the hunt everytime!
  9. that first buck has the funkiest rack ive ever seen on a 4 point!
  10. All I can say is, dude, we are all deer hunters here. Like it was said a bunch of times, gun hunters lose deer too. Please dont put us into our own category of "you bowhunters" its the weapon that we choose. You happen to hunt with a gun. The bottom line is WE ARE ALL OUT FOR THE SAME THING. You my friend should be ashamed of that statement you just made. I suggest you never post another thread on this sight because I sure as hell wont be reading any of your ignorant BS
  11. I used to have a place in Gilboa. the deer hunting was very good. Ive taken a nice 8, a 7, a 6 and my first buck, a 4 pointer. Over the past few years the area has been overrun by coyotes and people. One of our neighbors sold his parcel and subdivided it and now theres hunters every couple hundred yards. We realized this and sold the property 5 years ago and bought a farm a few miles north. Ive never hunted Grand Gorge but ive been in that area for the past 10 years.
  12. just small bucks and does. My cousin took a big doe opening evening. Still waiting for Mr. Big...
  13. yea that would be nice so I can finally plow one that comes into my turkey decoys...
  14. that is a young buck waiting for one of the does to come into estrus
  15. you got some big ones getting that close to a rutting buck!
  16. i would think thats a big buck fawn. either case congrats on the deer
  17. congrats on the first bowkill!
  18. great deer man definitely think about getting that one mounted
  19. whew!! Glad you found your deer! Nice buck!!
  20. I got a pic of a guy on my cams last year. Really pissed me off. Since then ive installed cameras in my parking area that takes pics of anyone making a visit. you can do this with trail cams too as mentioned earlier. Probably the biggest factor in keeping people off your property is getting in tight with a local neighbor. We are also putting up farm gates with a lock at the entrance to our property so people have to walk 200 yards to get to my hunting grounds.
