Not planning on it. Not going to go til the late duck season that opens Dec 3. Last year they had 2 days of goose season in my region that overlapped with duck. They didn't do that this year, kinda sucks. So hoping the ponds are still open by then. Not gonna go in there blasting shotguns before bow season. I know some guys say it won't hurt anything but not taking the chance. Bow season is the #1 priority Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk -

Corey and I went fishing this morning and had one walleye hit and a sunfish. We were off the water early. August is usually tough for eyes for me. We should've went bass fishing! So put together my duck blind idea. Took some 6ft stakes and cut another 15" piece to angle the top with a bolt and a wingnut. This way can give us more cover and also just break it all down to carry. I made 6 stakes but really only need 4 so I guess we have some spares. Will hopefully be able to try it out in Dec duck season. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk -
I put in January for mine. Lol. From Oct 20- Dec1 I never work more than 3 days a week and have the whole week of Thanksgiving off. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

Good day off. Got out to check the rifle to be sure it's still on. Gotta love one shot and done! Esp these days with the availability of ammo. But the 30/30 is good to go. Then went to the Amish store for some sausage spices. Then out to hunting land. Checked out plots and they are looking good. The one I planted 2 weeks ago at wayback is growing great in spots and nothing in others. So gonna seed a few spots there again. But even the ones I did just a week ago have popped. Good to see! Also got 3 stands cleared for shooting lanes and new straps on them. Clover in the trails also looks great from our frost seeding. Then shot the xbow and that is on and ready! Was planning tomorrow to put in our last little plot but the farmer cut it all and we have to wait for them to bail it now. So hopefully they do that today or tomorrow so we can get that in Sunday. Looks like 4 days of rain after and it would be perfect. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk -

Checked mine today. The ones I did just last weekend already popping. The one I did two weeks ago is spotty. But in spots it looks great. Might have to reseed some areas a little as it was very dry for 5 days after I planted that one. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk -
I actually bought 2 boxes of that exact ammo at Walmart a week ago. And I was there Thursday and there was still a box left. They also had 30/30 and .308 and some stocked shelves. Might be worth a look at your local one. I can check there again on Monday and get some for you if they still have it. Let me know. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

I forgot about that trick with the sinkers! Good info. I haven't been there in a long long time. We prob fished right next to each other. Lol I used to find spots before the big holes where there was a couple of rock breaks and fish those. A lot less people. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

Yes I agree but I meant after field dressing. I usually get 45-55 lbs after making burger etc with stuff added. If you get a 120lb doe and lose 25-30lbs field dressing, then the deer is maybe 90lbs. So 45-50% at best is 40-45#s of meat. So we are about the same #s. And that's with no damage and depends on the person cutting. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

One deer for the freezer. And always hope it plays out to get two with the second being a decent buck. I like to get an early doe then play for the buck the rest of the season. A deer in the freezer for my hunting buddy for his family. Then a new adventure into some duck hunting ... And with this adventure one duck will be considered a win. Lol. The ponds can't be all froze over come December or this is out the window. And to enjoy the time in the stand after all the hard work this spring and summer. Just be sure on the regs out there. A trip to Fat Nancy's tackle shop will get you setup. There used to be regs on the hook gap and how long your leader was from any weight etc. I used to be up on all that but I def am not these days. My favorite was a 2 or 3 inch curly tail grub on a red gamagatsu hook. I've had big browns come ripping to grab that while salmon fishing. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

What is the line test and capacity of the real? Personally I would like one a bit shorter for casting and pitching in the holes. But it should prob work. Light action is the most fun but remember you are likely surrounded by others, medium action is prob enough. And the farther they take you up and down the river the less likely you are to land them. I used to use 17lb mono. I know some guys use 10-12 lb but I def wouldn't go lighter than 14lb because of all the rocks and the size of the fish. Be sure it holds at least 150 yards of line. That being said you can use a good braid and get better hooksets but just use a fluorocarbon or mono leader. 14lb braid is like having 30+ #lb test mono so the leader will break first. You can even rig some leaders ahead of time to make it quicker. Something around 7-8 ft is gonna be easier to operate esp if you haven't done it before. Pin fishing is very popular but your gonna be spending a good amount for one of those rigs and it takes a while to get the feel of it. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

Don't need a broom handle rod but a long rod with a good bend to it works best. I had a 7.5 ft rigged with 17lb line that worked great for me. Be mindful of your spool. If you get a real green one and it's in heavy current and headed back to lake Ontario sometimes your better off holding the spool and breaking it off before it spools you. If your going with flies there are several areas that are fly rod only still I believe and it isn't quite so crazy there. If your running egg sacks bring lots of rigs as you'll have a lot of snags. If you run the new braids I would suggest a decent mono leader so you can break off when stuck in the rocks. When you net one point the net handle in the air so you don't snap the net ring. It can be a lot of fun. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

Usually most of the targets are under 40. Might be a couple 42 s or a bonus points shot at 80 at the end. It's def great practice for someone just getting into archery. I shot a lot of them. Now I barely shoot at all before season. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk

By the end of Sept they should def be in the river. Esp if we get some rain and the flow is up. You don't need a guide but expect to see quite a few people no matter where you go. Stop at any of the bait shops in Altmar or Pulaski and they will hook you up with gear and regs. I used to fish it a lot but haven't in years. I would always get to my spot in the dark and wait there for daylight to fish. The best fishing was when 6-8 of us would go and basically take a whole pool. Then when one guy hooks up and is fighting a fish when he gets back no one minded being shoulder to shoulder when everyone is together. Best time is during the weekdays if your there then. I'd give you some spots but I haven't been up there in a few years. Used to fish just past Altmar a lot. Was a hotel there off of rte 13 on a road that cut over to 81. Also the trestle pool etc. But got so it wasn't my thing anymore. If you find a spot you like then the next day get there super early then bang out a limit by 9am. I used to walk in the pitch dark with a flashlight, then the minute it was legal light I was casting! The fight is amazing, the wading and amount of people is not. And I gave the salmon away most of the time as I didn't care for it. Sent from my motorola edge 5G UW (2021) using Tapatalk
