had one get eaten that i shot at the end of gun season. Shot it before dark went back the next morn and there was barely anything left and couldnt even find the head. There was just a backbone and some of the hide. I think they take and drag away some of it esp if there are others there to compete with.

Do you use doe urine in your hunting repertoire? and if it was banned in NY would it effect your hunting ? I do use it on active scrapes and use a couple of drippers here and there. I have had a buck follow a line i dragged to the tee right to my stand once. I dont rely on it or anything but i always carry a can in my hunting pack. Usually regular urine early season , then doe in heat towards later october/november when the scrapes are really being torn up. Have even used it in the stand a few times and would spray the aerosol type a few times in the last half hour of the eve and did have a buck come in once (whether that had anything to do with it or not) . But it does seem to fire them up at the scrapes and hopefully gets them to return. I esp like to use it on a scrape the day before if I am going to hunt that spot the next day.

First year archery for me and excited !
Robhuntandfish replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in Bow Hunting
almost the same here - i do the DEC log and saw 104 in bow season. Saw 5 deer in gun season. And this last year I rattled one in for the first time, saw an 8 point chasing a 4 away and snort wheezing at him , when gun starts its a bit of a letdown although i do like opening day. -
Ready set go here. Just gonna keep flinging some arrows a couple of times a week. Stands ready, clothes in the barn and time off approved. Let's do this.

Wow! Now that's a plan! It's gonna be a great spot for sure.

I'm Excited For This Winter..............
Robhuntandfish replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
unless theres a Hooters behind that tree and you cant get to it without cutting it down, then I cant see the excitement in this pic! lol. never fear some hard work, but never looked forward to splitting wood or digging ditches.... -

that deck overhang is awesome - my buddy has one a lot like that . Funny thing is he ended up putting a patio on the lower part cause they spent more time below it. Can be out on the patio in the rain and out of the sun both. Your place is looking good. Always a project for sure - get em done before season. Finally finished this project this weekend except for two boards. Then lawn, last work on a treestand and clean out shed and deer hang ready. Next weekend helping my buddy as he just got permission on 50 acres across from his house. So gonna help him out with a couple stands. OCT 1 AND I AM DONE! lol.

Last deer season had a white or gray bird running around . It looked like a pheasant but had a crazy long tail feather and was a real light gray. Was thinking it got loose from a neighboring farm or something. But saw it a couple of times during season.

What A Break For Us Hunters This Weekend!!
Robhuntandfish replied to Lawdwaz's topic in General Chit Chat
I'm in the same boat. No big bucks , but gonna be tempted if that high 6 comes out that I did get on cam. Usually don't get a lot of big bucks anyway but when they do show its usually near season or in it. -

I did some last trimming for a stand and changed out some cam cards. But also did a lot of outside work so I dont have to do it during season. Staining, painting, etc..... Def better to feel the cool air and hear geese overhead. -
Are your feet 90 degrees from target?

Had to clear out one last stand today. There is a cornfield behind me and an apple tree to the left. But this is a cross section of trails. But shooting lanes are cleared and ready to go. Can you find the treestand.....lol. it's def tucked in there. When I left owner was heading out to brush hog trails. Which should be perfect come opening day.

Do you shoot with both eyes or close one?

Glad I started that thread so we could all talk you into it!!! Lol. Peer pressure! That's awesome. Your gonna love it and only regret you didnt sooner. There's just so many more deer acting natural and warmer and usually right in the rut and pre rut. Glad to hear this and can't wait to hear how you do. -
Pulled cam cards at my spot in 6S and a lot of does and one high rack 6 point. No big uns on cam at either of my two main hunting spots. Other one in 7F. That's rare, usually have a good one on cam there in late summer , usually an 8+. I am ok with taking a smaller buck but always like to know a big one is around. Gets the juices going! Won't go back in near cams now til hunting season. But does are always a good thing.

Actually I made a huge salad . Will be eating it for three days. Lol Had to balance out some healthy vs that Mac and cheese. An hour in the smoker was perfect. Can't let this thread die it's one of the best!

What knife will you be using for hunting this year ?
Robhuntandfish replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
Found this with two knives last year. This is what goes in my field pack. Works well . Both go in this little case makes it handy . -
First shot crossbow of the year at 40. That's ready. Then 2 at 40 with the compound.

This was so good !! Last night's and tonites dinner. Smoked Mac and cheese with little smokies. Came out awesome. Also was cutting some brush earlier and just for bionic I scooped up a bowl of it. If you cover it in bacon bits and shredded cheese and dump a thing of ranch on it , was almost edible.

I've done a lot of them on my own but feel way better when it's two people. Way easier to put them up and safer. And a second set of eyes for the details is always a plus. And for trimming lanes to have one in the tree and one with the pole saw. Good call.
