Doc, proof is tough to come by.. dont believe that with all the cameras out there there must be a pic. the ivory billed woodpecker was extinct for 50 plus years, and then someone heard a call was told he was nuts. 3 years later they were able to finially get photo.(this is a large bird 2 ft plus) and viola! its not extinct!! now if someone could catch a blue pike or two out of lake erie........

I have had great success using a tickling technique, with average size horns. i do not use a full blown rattling sequence as big buck are not all that common and it scares more deer than it brings in. a light sparing battle seems to work best.

52 Lbs no reason to go higher. Friends / family use to shoot 65+, blew out shoulders. They all shoot 60 or less now.

Well I have 5 different groups on 274 acres. Its all about habitat (cover and food) . Some home ranges just touch a few acres of the property, some are completely on it it seems. I get more 1.5 Year olds on as we target the doe with button bucks ..no mom to chase them off so the only home the know is what mom showed them.

lot of hay being baled here now. lot of it only 1st cutting, big dairys are on 3 chopping for siliage now. but bailled square and round for litle guy way behind

soils, habitat really? age and season legnth with total number of hunters. are a lot bigger factor. nys 2006 resident deer hunter numbers 452,000 , iowa 159,000, kansas 85,000. As stated by others earlier much shorter seasons closed during the rut for gun, and 1buck limits. You cant compare NY to Midwest states. But the potential is here. With a co-op or a large enough parcel bucks with record status are possible here. The genetics are here look at the lucky buck, world record at one time.

I've hunted pigs on a preserve, want much of a hunt was done in 35 min. over bait never but I would assume I 'd have to wait longer than 35 min for them to show up..

Can try turnip/brassica as well but won't get much of a bulb now... will get greens but not much time for development. But anything is better than nothing.....

Why Trail Cam Placement is Essential for Deer
G-Man replied to NFA-ADK's topic in Trail Camera Reviews and Info
I have gotten a big buck on can single pic, nothing of him for weeks then turned the camera 90 degrees and pic of him again. Deer learn to avoid cameras, same a tree stands. Had a permanent stand, deer head comes over the ridge looas at stand to see if it is occupied. Put a portable up 30 yards from it and watched it happen over and over. Deer would check permant stand before they would show themselves under portable That's why you should move your cams around. They learn where they are and advoid them. No matter the hight. -
I always get good bucks on camera, its a completely different thing to hang one up. There is always a wopper in everyone's area, depends how many bucks you let go by if your gonna have a chance to see them. Only took me 7 years to get a big buckI had on camera to Hang on my gambrel.

I use a true talker, never fails.

Those are small plots, won't last long if any kid of deer population. It will work lot of work by hand. Winter wheat, cold hardy oats are ggood, not much time for anything else.

Learn to follow scratchings, find your food sources where they will be in the fall.(oak flats that are producing, grain fields, ect.callling kee kee and whistle for young birds Or blind calling lost yelp. Best advice after breaking them up, and wait till they start calling, then mimic whatever they do.

Call! call loud! Try grunt, bleat, rattling horns, watch and observe it reaction It has to hear you maybe just a ear in your direction, or flick of tail. all have meanings

Still nothing beats a slug in heavy brush, much less deflection.Great for drives as range is limited and drops off fast. I might not use mine as much as i use to but, I always keep a slug gun dialed in with shells on hand.
-
I'd get skull cleaned by bugs, horns slide right off then as they eat the fleshy part away
-
Most shots are under 75 yards and big hole from a slug leaves a good blood trail. kind of gotten a bad rap i.m.o

Questions of hunting over bean and corn fields
G-Man replied to martinhunter12's topic in Deer Hunting
Corn harvest depends on if going for silage, or grain.can be as early as September or as late and January depending how wet field is. Beans are usually picked end of sept beginning of Oct. -
Neighbor bought one and broke 5 teeth off it 1st use. Way to rocky here... field cultivator and disc for me, on new sod mulboard plow.
-
The easiest is take a shower and wash clothes in baking soda.. use wind as much as possible to your advantage. Simple and easy and inexpensive. I agree a coverscent is a good idea. Simple as well if hunting pines put clothes on pine boughs, golden rod, for fields, or leaf litter for hardwoods.

Neighbor has a prepaid phone, he likes it. Fortunately I'm grandfathered in I just have to keep buying my phone out right. What I have now for 60.00 would cost me 280.00 A month Verizon plans now.

You can be allergic to proteins in deer's blood, not to mention dander . Open cut can lead to infection from any introduced substance.
