The politicians on that list need to be told what disabled means and that the crossbow is something that would allow the disabled hunter a way to continue hunting and that would mean more money to New York State. Haven't they heard of word the word discriminate? I will send them email and explain it to them. I guess some in Albany are "Thick as a Brick"

I've come to the conclusion that they don't take the time to read individual letters, it's more a matter of quantity than quality........and until NYS makes a crossbow a legal implement, and as of now I don't think they will be allowed in any season, there are provisions for disabled hunters to hunt during archery season using the legally allowed implements.............as pathetic as those provisions are.

It is so very pathetic....and the crossbow would be the only provision viable for some hunters with certain forms of disabilities...for some that means not being able to archery hunt again this year, myself included.

It seems to me that those that are concerned with the handicapped and aged and infirm would have made that their first priority and crafted their first round of legal incursions into bow seasons limited to taking care of that problem by itself. I won't predict how NYB would have reacted to that kind of bill, but I will say that nearly all of the opposition from rank and file bowhunters would have disappeared had the bill simply been written in that fashion alone. But I think that crossbow proponents use the handicapped issue only as "sympathy" side issue to push their real agenda. Frankly, if someone had posed a bill that allowed the handicapped and aged to use crossbows in bow season, I would not have written even one letter opposing it. I suspect that most bowhunters are of the same opinion.

good point.......... if an organization of disabled hunters started the movement to have crossbow's added to the archery season, based on the needs of the physically challenged ONLY, and had a politician to bring the fight to Albany for them, I would think Albany would look pretty bad if they didn't give it serious consideration.

sorry man but im all FOR crossbows...

and you're entitled to that opinion

I agree. i do have a problem with how hard it is for someone who is disabled to be able to use one.

I have never understood the "for disabled only" for archery season.

Either they are archery equipment or they are not.

eh... my best analogy is a handicapped parking space. You need to make an exception for those who love the early season, the stealth and the challenge. There are indeed implements for the compound bow that help disabled people use them, but for every able bodied person to use a crossbow is something I believe hurts the sport. there is certainly still challenge with a crossbow, but as I've said a million times over the push for a crossbow into a season meant to challenge the hunter is simply the result of our changing societies impatience and need for instant gratification... that and the manufacturers.

Where in this bill does it say it is for crossbows during archery?

That is my point. If you are against cross bows in archery then oppose this bill that is not about including crossbows in archery? It is about it becoming a legal implement. the title should be if you are against crossbows.

my guess is the anti crossbow people feel if they give an inch, they will eventually lose a yard, and the pro crossbow people feel if they gain an inch they will eventually gain a yard.....sadly they will never sit down and come to a compromise.

I find it kind of like false advertising. The implement MUST be classified as a legal implement if it is ever to be included anywhere in any season. Including for disabled. This bill give the DEC the autority to regulate. But this bill is NOT about inclusion in bow season.

right, but I'm assuming the anti crossbow people feel that if DEC is given the regulatory authority to govern the use of crossbows    in any season, their ultimate intention is to put them in archery season, thus getting their foot in the door to push it into archery season.

fair enough, but it opens the door to what we all know would happen anyhow. That's why the pro crossbow WAS pushing it. and it's in the DEC's 5 year plan

There is intent by the DEC to put xbows into the archery season. This bill would give them the ability to do so. That's why many of us are opposing the bill.
