Say you are a land owner with > 50 acres and they are set to only give out 3000 for the WMU. Land owners are guaranteed unless the area is set for "None".

Or even this scenario - what if your in an area with Pref Points needed and only 3000 are avail?

The way I see it, the earlier you grab it the better in a low DMP avail area, no?

I don't work for the DEC, so I car say for sure how it works. I don't believe they have a target number of tags issued per say, but they have an anticipated estimate of how many they want to give out, relative to how many people apple each year, and adjust the lottery probabilities to curb those numbers to get their end results. Notice each year, the numbers of tags issue is not perfect. It's never 3000 or 12000, that should tell the story right there.

Just like the left over tags for areas like 1C and 3S every year, they are available for 24 hours at a time, and you are guaranteed to get the tag if you went in, regardless if it was 12:00 am or 11:59 PM the next day. You would get that tag. Once the day is over, calculations are made, and they may continue issuing extra tags, or close an area off.

Stopped at town hall today got 8f and 8h,daughter got her big game did not try for doe tags as she just hunts the farm with me and we use dmaps there.
