First day of ML

I took off of work on Monday to get in one last day of hunting this year (I'm busy for the rest of ML season).  After seeing no shoot-able bucks all bow and regular season, the extra day in the woods was well worth it.

Small 8 pointer, but it's the biggest buck I've ever shot in 3H.

The wound on its leg was a previous injury.  My shot went in from the other side of the deer.

Could be the strategic placement of the gun OR a quartering shot resulting in no exit OR a bloodless exit????

Hopefully the OP chimes in.........

No exit wound.  The shot was quartering towards me.  I missed the lungs, but tore up the liver.  He walked about 15 yards and bed down, then got up about 2 minutes later, walked another 15 yards, and bed down again for the last time.

I was surprised (and a little concerned) that there was no pass through.  It's something I plan to look into next year.  I was using 2 White Hot pellets and a 250 grain bullet, that should be more than enough power for a pass through at 60 yards.  Maybe it hit a rib and changed direction?

Was the leg wound a bullet wound or couldn't you tell?

Couldn't tell for sure because the wound was not that fresh and had been healing.  If I had to guess I would say a bullet grazed that leg a week or so prior.  The bones weren't damaged though, I saw it trotting at a good pace before I got him to freeze so I could take a shot.
