Not to mention there isn't a DEC officer on the planet that would write you a ticket if you have your liscense on your person (whether in your pack, or pocket or whatever).

What would they write the ticket for?  you have a liscense.  They would write it for not being in the correct spot?  lol.

I would love to see the fine for that.

I still have my first backtag (1963)...

I can remember that my Dad had them in the mid 1950s...I used to safety pin his old tags on the back of my shirt when I was out stalking tweetie birds with my Daisy BB gun...

I hang them on my backpack, my waistline, or wherever.. This spring I kept forgetting to pin it on my turkey vest, and hunted most of the season without it.

If some game cop is so chickens**t to write me a ticket for that, I'll just pay my fine and get on with it...

It's a big sign on your back that tells everyone you're a hunter. Just in case they missed the fact that you're carrying a gun or bow in the field during hunting season.

OTOH, if you're carrying a gun but not wearing the tag I guess you could be mistaken for a terrorist or something. Seems to me it would be easier to issue terrorist/nutjob/criminal tags than to bother all the legitimate hunters. They could pick up those tags when they go in to register their guns, right?

i feel like back tags were one of those things that once it was in there is no going back. Anything that can be tied even slightly to safety will have a hard time being reversed. The key is to never allow it into existence in the first place, and hence why the SAFE act is a problem.

Only NY and Wisconsin have back tags at all. Some like to collect them, fathers have passed their number down to sons . That's cool and all,but that's about it.

Has Pennsylvania changed? When I lived there in the '60s & '70s you had to display your back tag just like Southern Zone of NY.

I had assumed that was why you had to display in the Southern zone given the proximity of the PA border.

Supposedly, there is some female game warden (in our area) that has often been described to me as a beotch. She may be the one to avoid. I think she lives on Forest Drive near where the old state nursery used to be.

Where do I purchase tag holders? I bought a few last year at GM and the window is too small to display the entire number, which I'm sure means that I am non-compliant. I'm only stalking small game on my property this week, but want to be prepared in case anyone questions whether I am a "citizen resident".

Do you guys cut up the long string of yellow when starting out or just fold and stuff the whole thing into a pocket?

And as I've yet to fill out a tag, can someone walk me through it?

The first two panels are the back tag number.

Then bear tag. Not shooting a bear.

Bow/muzzle either sex. I doubt I'll try for a deer with a bow, but I wanted it just in case one walks up to me. This gives me one deer during bow season either sex?

Reg season deer. One antlered deer during regular season any weapon?

DMP - not selected.

The actual license which lists my info and what I paid for Res Hunting, Bow Hunting Priv, DMP. This is what I need to sign and keep with me?

Then the Report Harvest tag.

Then another ID panel which seems to be the report form. What do I do with that?

Another panel with just my ID on it. Keep in files or in field?

And finally, a panel where I report a DMP.

Thanks.

As long as you have your tag and I.D with you then I wouldn’t worry size of window.

What would the yellow string be for?

If you look at the regulation book I believe it explains how to fill out the tag, if that helps.

I keep my lic in my back tag and rest of my tags in my jacket pocket

First time that back tag holder scraped loudly against a tree was the last time I wore it.  Now I realize that this state goes out of its way to tax, fine and arrest as many people as possible, but I'll take my chances with pocket carry of a back tag.  Good grief.

I think as I recall doc that came from all the people from the north flocking to the southern zone to fill doe permits we could not get here. Plus from what I read here with all the violations and trespassing, it makes for a way to identify the crook.  Since there was a much bigger influx there, it was a way for the person to be identified  by another hunter.  personally I am glad I live in an area where I do not have to.  I get concerned thinking about how people get the numbers from a distance.  Scpope maybe.  Plus we hunters in t he north are honest trustworthy and everyone knows everyone

Seems like when I watch the news there are lots of dishonest and not so trustyworthy folks up North..

Your statement is such a load of crap...
