Well my property runs east west and with predominantly west winds have made entering from the east mandatory, problem is a good size creek that hampers access during the season when it rains and for a few days after.. so building a bridge.. 52 foot across creek and 67 ft overall..its about 1/2 done, tightening and hand railings and stabilization still need to be done.. but looking good so far after 3 weekends of workpost-899-0-32869900-1408569214_thumb.jpg anyone else do something this crazy just to get to deer?

I keep a tire swing at one of my spots, effective and fun!!!………………….Kidding. I use to have a couple spots like that. I kept chest waders stashed, a one spot and an old jon boat at the other….What ever it takes.

Paula I can now win any climb the rope bridge games at any fair,or theme park.. it will eventually have handrails... it sways a little but just need to get across it, can get there from the west but why drive thru a mile plus of woods and scare everything out? I don't mind driving for retrevial but a 1.5 Mile walk in is unnessaray if i cross the creek its 200 yard walk.

Love it!

You'll find out just how much you trust your life to your craftsmanship and materials when the waters rise.., the temps plummet.., , and the current is rushing inches below your feet.

Build your faith in it now, or it's likely it will serve no purpose when mother nature throws another challenging hurdle on top of it.

Hope it serves as a good safe crossing for you this season!

Wouldn't it be neat if the deer start to use it too? I'd put up a trail camera on it. You may be surprised as animals take the path of least resistance as humans do sometimes. Looks great and hope it serves its purpose this season and next.

Labor of love!  Very cool!  I don't do anything like that to get deer, that's for sure.  But I am not saying I wouldn't!  Now if we could make that portable!?

You are the MAN G-Man!  I hope they show some appreciation for all your hard work, you deserve it.  B)

Almost pissed myself laughing! Better put up a "one buck at a time please" sign...HAHAHA! That looked like a lot of work, kudos to the craftsman. What lengths we all go through to get into the woods, building a super long foot bridge is on the extreme end of deer crazy.....I fully understand.

Ooh nice! I'd have a have a fox trap at either end for sure.

Oh and an extra set of dry clothes stashed somewhere nearby might prove useful on some brisk november morning. I'd hate to see your "live from the stand" post turn into "live from my living room drinking hot cocoa"! Lol

This might qualify;

Pic of one section of new trail/road I've been building - repairing all summer more or less. Probably 30+ sq yards of dirt/gravel mix involved, making use of the tractor & bucket. In some spots making use of the existing old logging trail, in others bridging muddy swampy spots.

I can now get all the way back to the existing plots with the tractor, I should have the extra top soil for the w/r plots and work done before labor day. No more getting material & supplies back and forth by hand & foot, or one wheel barrel load at a time. I expect to go through at least a few sq of fill next year just in maintenance, fixing up low spots etc., as I make use of it while it settles. This will also make it easier to clean up logging scraps, and set in place plans to clear out another acre for a forge soy plot. This is slow work, sometimes it seems like it never ends. Yet I can visualize what the end result could be, realizing something of a goal 3 years or so away.

Edit to add; it is very important to have a few turn around points ahead of this kind of work. Otherwise going backwards with a 2 ton tractor can fishtail and splatter wet/loose fill.
