Windows 10

It seems that everytime I upgrade operating systems, I find some existing software does not play well with it. There always seems to be some kind of hassle. Over the years, I have lost the use of thousands of dollars worth of software. I know that eventually there comes a time when you have to upgrade for compatibility with new software purchases. But I am going to wait until that issue arises.

For me, I have never found improvements to be significant enough to warrant the additional hassles. Also, it seems like they are always changing something to things that don't work as conveniently as they used to.

I'll wait until I have to, and hopefully I won't have to ..... lol. I'll be interested to see what others think.

Come on some of you IT guys, chime in!

I too am in dire need of upgrading my Vista. Haven't seen any newer version of Win that is right for me. That is other than probably Win7 Pro, which BTW Doc supports legacy 3rd party softwares. Win8 was supposed to be an upgrade, but was hugely unpopular and was dismissed as a down-grade. Win10 looks to be based on social media, photo & video sharing and a lot of smartphone interfacing, which is not for me! Win10 does have a new web browser that is supposed to be huge improvement over IE.

I only upgraded to be familiar with it as I have to support it.  The new browser is not compatible with many web sites and you usually have to revert back to using IE which is still in Windows 10.  Some programs or should I say apps depening on your upgrade will not work in windows 10 or have glitches.  So far windows 7 is the new XP replacment.  If you are looking to upgrade from Vista you probably need a new computer NOT an upgrade.

Thanks for the input . When Windows was no longer supporting XP , I bought a new computer with Windows 8.1 . I like what I have here . I use Mozilla FireFox as I founf Internet Explorer too slow . Once in a while I use Chrome GOOGLE but never IE . I guess I will stick with what I have ( 8.1 ) . If it works , don't fix it !

Windows 8 and 8.1 is the biggest turd they ever came out with. Its the hardest system software to use, everything is scattered and very difficult to find. Windows 10 is a huge improvement over 8 and 8.1. And yes it has media player. I have had zero problems using IE, Firefox or Chrome browsers. Everything is easy to find, and not the stupid layout like smart phones and pads use. Im sure there are bugs yet I have not come across but they will release patches im sure. Been running 10 almost 60 days now and I no longer get pissed of or cringe using 10 like I did with 8 and 8.1. I recomend making the change.

I am still using Windows 7 Home Premium Edition and finally have all issues ironed out, and all the current software working okay with it. So I will be one of the last to convert to Windows 10. I am hoping that when I switch over, it will have been thoroughly debugged and rung-out. the longer I wait, the more problem-free it will be.

Smart thing is to not upgrade until after you verify that all your components (touchpad/mouse, video card, network/wif-fi) have available drivers for Windows 10 and the software you plan to use on it is compatible.

Windows 7 Pro has the option for running a Virtual XP computer with in it for old softerware that was not compatible.  You can do a similar thing with Windows 10 (download and install the virtual software and install Operating system in the virtual computer) as long as you have a licensed copy of windows that is being installed in the virtual PC.

If you consider having a virtual computer for old software, you need have 4 GB of RAM or more on the computer for it to run decently when the virtual PC is also running.

The new web browser, Edge, and Internet Explorer 11 do have issues with some websites.  Especially with commercial banks and vendor portals.  For now, sticking with Windows 7.

I downloaded the windows10 upgrade... I like it just fine... I would probably like it more on a new computer. It is different and maybe not the best for the novice or computer illiterates... I am a bit more savvy than most on a computer having used one for the last 25 years... so I might not be the best one to ask if you're a little less savvy. But, for me, so far .. :gamer: so good!
