Lawdwaz
This afternoon I took our painter out for a quick bite at lunch time, we were heading north on Transit Rd (Rt 78) and heading to Niagara County Produce. As we approached I made a comment on how great it was that after 4 years the State had finally put in an traffic light at Tonawanda Creek Rd (south side of creek) where there had been plenty of smash ups as people left the market and tried to make a left turn. We chatted about it for a quick minute, parked and went towards the building. Just then we hear BAM, SMASH, CRASH & BOOM. Holy crap we turn around after the first BAM and see the aftermath; cars spinning around and smoking tires. I looked at Dennis and said WTF?? I quickly whipped out my space age cell phone and called 911. The dispatcher asked what the trouble was and I said 4 vehicles that I could see, north bound lane on Transit Rd, right in front of the Market. She had two questions; what was the address and were there any injuries? I said frig if I know either answer, just roll the guys with the know-how. I figured that there had to be injuries but didn't know for sure as I was too far away to see and I sure as balls wasn't going to waddle out to the street in these temps. Hopefully nobody was hurt too bad. They were still cleaning things up 40 minutes later........... Oh, too bad the person that caused the wreck didn't go out the other driveway and use the exit that leads to the new light. Maybe next time........ Robhuntandfish
People are just clueless. Can put up all the signs and flashing lights in the world and they still don't pay attention. The town I work in just put up double sided chartreuse crosswalk signs and I sat on one side with my hazard lights on and just watched one car after another blow thru the crosswalk while someone tried to get across. I've taught the defensive driving class for over 15 years and the stories and questions sometimes still amaze me. Example......."do I have to stop for a flashing red light?". EVERY other thing that I've ordered has been great and not a single complaint. I wouldn't say a word to them as I'd happily give a pass to anybody once in awhile........I love the place for everything. We have an outstanding looking poinsettia in our living room (BIG sucker) and two in the office that still look great. So inexpensive!! Cold cuts, meat market, bakery, beer cooler fruit, vegetables are all great.

Those are optional , just like if the stop sign has a white border ,it is also optional.
Nomad
That’s fine, they ask so they know what to send ,mva with injuries , mva unknown on injuries ,mva no injuries . They ask so they know if they need to send an ambulance, also blocking , fluids leaking it all helps to know who and what to send . Today I had a mva car vs school bus, unknown on injuries check and advise on Injuries ( none) . Ended the day with a nice house fire ,roofers with a torch great for business . Sometimes calls come a from a passerby sometimes it’s a person who’s right there on foot and can answer those questions .

In this case, they put up all kinds of signs in the parking lot, pointing the way to the new signal. Someone apparently still felt the need to take a left turn onto busy Transit, rather than drive over to the new signal.

Lawdwaz
Soooooo, today I'm with my boss, heading for Kalamata's in Lockport to meet a fellow for some lunch. We are just south of Fred Zdyb's cheap cash only fuel joint on the left side of the road and BAM..two cars slam into each other in the fuel stations driveway and end up in a snow bank. We kept going as there were plenty of people to help out and it appeared to be somewhat minor. Our direction of travel and sloppy roads weren't going to help us either. Tough week on Rt 78...................

Dinsdale
I want your job; all you do is go out to lunch! I spent a good part of the day outdoors......blowing snow and cold, oh boy. Now if there was something to shoot, wouldn't have been as bad.

Terribly bored in these conditions..........customers don't want things done now. We have a pretty good backlog of work to do, 50% deposits in hand. I have some work lined up for next Friday as the weather looks like it could be OK, for now. May take wife for breakfast tomorrow, tired of going out for lunch. greg54
I live east of Lockport and have my scanner on in the house all the time. I can say that Transit Rd. has accidents calls all the time. The Vol. Fire Dept and police agencies are kept busy with them, some serious.

I had stopped short of the crosswalk stripe by a car (Tacoma) length and one of the cars shot right by us in the spot where we should have been. I don't know what made me stop short at the light?? Good thing......

Transit Road is accident prone all the way to the city line. The extended 45 zone north of Tonawanda Creek didn't seem to help. Redesign is the only answer. Rattler
911 dispatchers will try to get as much information as they can from the caller. The more you know when you call 911, the more help you can be. I cannot fault them for asking for more information. If you know what they want to know, great. If not, they will get more calls about the same emergency from many others soon. Everybody calls when they see a collision. BTW, I never refer to an vehicle collision as an "accident". It was a collision, since somebody did not have control of the vehicle they were operating. That's no accident.
