Dave
I think obesity is a problem in this country across ALL age groups. Many people in their 60's or 70's probably drank too much, smoked too much, and didn't exercise nearly enough, so those that are still around aren't exactly Jack LaLane's neither. Again Steve you missed the point and respond with a lecture. My point was that this generation is in worse shape than our's and the one before us. This is not my opinion but medical reports on the state of our children. Most hunters are in their 50's, 60's and 70's. You don't have to be Jack LaLane to go hunting if you have some level of fitness. My comment was about the younger generation.Dave Now whose starting the argument here? I know exactly what you were trying to say and don't disagree that many kids are overweight. Although, any way you try to slice it, in general the higher probability of a hunter needing to be carried out feet first out of the woods, would be with the old timers and not the youngsters even though they might be overweight. Why must you see everything as an argument and not a discussion with different points of view. Seems like you like to argue, if you didn't you would have nothing to say.Dave
Doewhacker
How did this turn into a old fat vs young fat discussion? I step out for a couple hours and look what happens...shesh Dave interestingly enough all though as a nation we are fatter than years ago our average life expectancy has increased over time. Are some kids fat, yes, are some adults fat too, absolutely. It has more to do with what we eat and the lack of physical activity combined together. There are far less fresh foods eaten but far more medical help than back when you were a young pup. And steve correct me if I am wrong but isn't a video of fasteddie you posted? steve863
Yeah, Doe, isn't it funny how I try to post something humorous and then some take it all wrong? Then they say we start trouble. LOL No, actually I don't think it's fasteddie. I think he has a bit more manners than the guy on the video. I will try to find out who he is and will post his name when I find out. I do already have a couple of hunches, though.

orion
So what tags does the ML hunter get during the late season? The either sex tag given to bowhunters? If you do both archery and ML you get what tags?
Doc
Centerpunch- Who were the "Hunters for hunters"? Was it anyone who is likely to have any impact or influence on the DEC plan?
WNYBuckHunter
Rich doesnt have the influence he makes out to have. Hes full of alot of hot air and passes his personal opinion off as how the majority feels about things. Just speaking from my experiences with him on AT. I dont know him from a bag of a******* but he says he has alot of support for this from folks in his region. Its alot better of a plan than that crap the DEC came up with so if he can get things rolling we should support it. Like I said, thats how he presents his opinions on AT and a few other forums. I have never seen any of his "plans" gain any traction. There are a couple of decent things in there but nothing that I really think the DEC would go for that they havent already detailed in their own plan. growalot
8 – Lower archery discharge distance to 150 feet from public road or structure – statewide Sorry totally disagree with this one...you were doing OK up to that point....I live deep in the woods...my live stock is in the woods and I have seen just how far a deflected arrow can travel...no way....500ft for all weapons.... WNYBuckHunter
8 – Lower archery discharge distance to 150 feet from public road or structure – statewide Correct me if Im wrong, but you dont need to be 150 or even 500 feet from a road to discharge a bow or gun currently. You just cant shoot across a road. If you really look through that plan, theres alot of issues. Both bad ideas and things that make no sense. bubba
actually if you look in the guide book. You only have to be off the maintained part of the highway, and no part of your arrow or bullet can pass over the road. In other words past the ditch line, and you have to be 500 feet from an occupied dwelling, church or school , unless you have permission. however legal does not mean ethical. Page 18 guide book public highway definition middle column then lower in the same column manner of taking, it is illegal to take game on or from a public highway. Page 18 last column discharge of firearms and bows. The whole 500 feet from a road is a fallacy, which makes it tough to lower it to 150 feet lol. G-Man
I believe some state parks have setbacks from road requirements.
sits in trees
I believe some state parks have setbacks from road requirements. current law states you can shoot with you back to a road as long as you are shooting away from the road and not over it. the 500ft from dwellings (sheds and barns included) is for guns and bows. now for guns i can see having the 500 ft setback, but for bows it just stupid. the vast majority of bow hunters hunt from elevated stands and shoot down, so as far as "Grows too much's" theory about getting an arrow shot into her livestock rearend is a pure joke, her rear is more than safe ;D the areas that are most affected by deer over population are mostly towns villages and lower NY state/long island etc, these areas are already burdened by anti hunting groups and almost everything else under the sun. decreasing from 500 to say 300 or maybe 250 would open up alot of new areas for hunters in lower NY state, and there are some huge deer in those areas not to mention. ;D
