Ok..isee where you got that..i had meant 3 8 pts in 3 yrs..2 nice racks and this yrs small 8 that caught me with an itchy trigger...and several that had been passed on..but all had good sized bodies..and as far as the headhunting..thats basicly what im gathering...antler restricting is the only way here..no alternatives..all cause people who have "done the research"..and now are experts..i would love to do what they do in texas and sit and wait for a monster at 200+ yds..but i cant bring myself to believe thats hunting..but yhats what some like..and im ok with that..closing the distance is what i like..and i beg a pro to count antlers..draw and  shoot in a 20 second span..no treestand..all ground work..but how i hunt is how i hunt..this site has had a large roll in reevaluating myself and i find myself asking what the overall point of this restriction is..really..and is it ethical..not only to this thread..but even my own goings on

Your questioning is AR ethical?  Is shooting baby bucks ethical then?

AR is not hypothetical.. its been applied in many states... the fact that the DEC has only implemented AR in a few areas in NY... is based on their opinion of need and want for any WMU... it isn't that they think the concept isn't valid.. it's more them trying to juggle the need and want of the NY hunter.

Well i think ar's are going to have to be an individual thing, the state wants to manage numbers not age. For those of you that say well if i pass it some one else will shoot it...maybe but maybe not i know that my neighbors benifit from me passing deer as the deer they are getting are getting bigger as well. If you own land i think the best way to protect the younger deer is make a sancuary(the thickest nastiest stuff you have avaiable,or cut stuff down and make it thick!) and then stay out of it all the time! you'd be amazed at the number of deer that will head there for safety from your "kill em all neighbors" property. Most important don't hunt your sanctuary at all! wait the deer will leave and the one you want will eventually come out..  just my opinion......

AR seems very one sided to me..sided towards rack hunters..which if thats what you do then so be it..however i believe one alternative could be the feeders...bare with me...a feeder permited by the state with a 150 yd radius no shoot zone set up by the dec and the permit holder could buy feed provided by the state only..no additives..only health promoting feeds..creating jobs and generating money for the state.

Meat hunters would see larger deer body wise and rack hunters would see an increase in total headgear..even at 2 yrs old which is still a good meat hunters deer age..if i meat hunt i would want to fatten up my bounty..if i look for racks im sure after a short time deer age and growth will move up  with good health levels and less food finding stress...winter kills..lime and wasting disease prevention..etc..possibly keeping deer out of the  road by placing feeders where deer naturally cross rds to feed...(may be tryin too hard for that one)

I dont see feeders being that bad when people are just growing food plots basicly for the same reasons..placing a feeding area where it wasnt there naturally..this way could scratch alotta backs if done right..like i said..just lookin at some alternatives..heres a poll question..if this were proposed..would you buy in?..

i personally dont get the whole CWD claims... in X amount of years howmany case studies show a deer with CWD? slim to none?

not only, i am almost positive just about every single one of  us walk up on bait piles every year in the woods. Now with the "constant baiting" that goes on throughout the years, food plots, corn fields, mineral site and so on you almost never hear of a deer infested with CWD. Not to mention there was a scare not to long ago in bottled deer urine containing CWD. And the ban of certain scents in states i believe, correct me if i am wrong...

im not supporting the feeding or baiting notion, but with all that goes on under the surface im not to concerned if they made it legal or not...

You seem like a smart fellow..pretty sure  you see what im getting at..like i said..its a suggestion to an alternative to ar..i dont see any other suggestions ..so all of these highly educated people on here have no other suggestions than AR ??

If people like you would let the youngins walk there wouldn't be a need for AR.

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!

We will be publishing the new list of available hunting leases on Monday, March 2, 2020 at 7:30 AM on our website www.cottonhanlon.com
Cotton-Hanlon is a private timber company that owns land in NY and PA (sorry all our land in PA is currently leased). We have been leasing land since the fall of 1970. You will be dealing directly with the us, no third parties.
Still working on the list but it looks like we'll have woodlots available in the following counties in NY: Broome, Cayuga, Chemung, Chenango, Cortland, Oswego, Schuyler, Tioga and Tompkins.
Make sure to check it out first thing that morning for the best choices.
      Thanks, Bob

Wondering if anyone has an extra DMP tag for 4W.
Long shot I know and would be happy to get a 1C to exchange. Or trade my turkey tag. Wasn't sure where I would be hunting and never got a deer yet.
