Here's where the HuntingNY forum falls short... First response from someone (Moog5050) looking to be mentored and no where to put his/her posting. Like I mentioned before, the forum needs a category for mentors wanted, available or hunting buddies wanted.2 points

These may not work for everybody, but they are realistic trophy goal bucks for my hunting properties. Here's a series of a few bucks that do it for ME!1 point

Takes an administrator or moderator to start a category. Which I asked to have done. Within the category topics can be added by members loking for or offering mentoring services. Hunting buddies would be a good add-on also from the link I found earlier. Out of state link, but decent idea & format: http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/344-Hunting-Mentors-amp-New-Hunters.-Need-A-Buddy-Hook-Up-Here1 point

Now with AR in most DMP zones I thinK it is about time to start thinking about outlawing treestand shooting so we find out who the true hunters are in NY state. If everyone has to hunt off the ground, it would save a lot of people from being hurt and or killed from treestand falls. Lets get the form letters started now. Think of all the people this would save and find the true hunters1 point

Your right fun to hunt and good eats...but Man!...At first glance...... I thought an invasion of rats hit us...There was a huge...sewer type rat killed down the road in front of a very bad trailer... I had turned them in three 3yrs ago because kids lived there and you had just a foot path on covered porch..... besides I tired of every one else on the hill whining about it....I told authorities and all they said was they are welfare...Soo??? I don't want rats!!...I then called the county offices and said if there is a fire in that TRAILER...and those girls die I'll hit the news so fast...we'll look into it....2 days later...3 dumpster full of garbage...took one year to re fill and they moved...guy that bought at auction dismantled it and cleared the land...but now the rats have moved across the area The guy really has put in a ton of work and has a nice place...you can see pride in where he lives Any how...a bunch of babie rabbits scattering in all directions...well you get the picture...I'll take rabbits over rats every time ...lol.....I've given them plenty to eat in the plots...and have had my eye on mom/dad all summer...we use to raise meat rabbits...this is cheaper and more fun1 point

They are there!! Ya just might have to dig a little deeper to find them. Are the numbers like they were 15 years ago? Not even close. I still see groups of deer at a time while hunting the park. Really very few places we go that we dont see numbers of deer. They have had AR in place now for what 3 years. The bucks are getting bigger, older and smarter. The sharpshooters took a few off the park itself and the hundreds of DMAPS they hand out do a number on them on the edge of the park. I believe the east side is starting to get better than the west side. We keep hip boots on the bottom and cross the river at times to hunt the east side bottom and a couple little islands in the river. We rope to the bottom from the west side as its much quicker down and very easy to get over to the east without having to go down off the river road. Keep hunting...You will find them!!!1 point

I would support this idea. I don't need to kill more than one big buck in one state in the same year. On the other hand, I've only ever done it twice and I've had enough seasons without any mature buck sightings. It would at least make people hesitate for a moment before they drop another nondescript yearling. I support ARs because I want to see a big buck or two every season and there's no shame in that. Will ARs help the health of the deer herd? It depends on what you mean by healthy. I guess if fawns are being born every year then at least the herd is reproducing. Is the herd in a "natural" state? Not if you are comparing it to what it was when Columbus landed. Imagine if there were no men around and all the 20-30 year old women were being bred by 13 year old boys? It would be like some African countries where all the men have died in war. Babies will still be born but it certainly is not "natural". Proponents of ARs and QDM that are promoting herd health are saying just that. A healthy herd has a natural age structure that includes 50% of the bucks being 2 years old or older. Yearling bucks rarely get a chance to breed. More competition for does means a more intense rut and a tighter breeding window. With all the fawns being born in a short period of time it makes it harder for predators to make much of a dent in the overall fawn crop. I read that a lot of PA hunters hated ARs until the second season. Then there were legal bucks everywhere. Shooting yearling bucks is picking low hanging fruit. There are smart ones and there are dumb ones. The dumb ones get shot. Let those dumb ones get to be 3-4 years old and you have a dumb, but nice buck. Everybody wins. ARs are only a temporary one season inconvenience. Most of those yearlings you weren't allowed to shoot will be there next season. Then you will be able to shoot them. At the same time the next crop of yearlings is growing into legal size. That's the beauty of deer- they are a renewable resource that matures fairly rapidly. P.S. For all you folks that pick at each other's spelling, grammar, or brag about your hunting prowess: grow up.1 point

And get a youth out there with you, the AR's don't apply to them and they'll be thrilled to take the buck that you can't.1 point

I've already explained this numerous times on here... you're unwillingness to pay attention is getting old... just because you spout jeremy hurst's talking points without taking them in the right context doesn't mean you know what you're talking about... I will say you have all the info right as he explained it, yet you have no idea what it means as it pertains to what he was responding to... I give.. UNCLE.. you wore me down... you're a lost cause on this subject... and you still think that it's all about trophy hunting for me.. you clearly aren't paying attention... so carry on! PS. Remember... this is where you start with the name calling... just don't want you to miss your cue!1 point

So I take it you never have researched the small arms treaty and what it is for? It controls arm's deals between countries, not what you own and buy. I would go further into detail on how impossible it is for the fairy tail of yours to come true but why bother, you won't beleive it any way because you want to beleive the opposite.1 point

You mean I can't kill a 1 1/2 year old buck and I may have to drive a little bit to be able to fill my DMP's, Archery either sex tag, muzzleloader either sex tag etc. My world is falling apart!! With our long seasons and liberal bag limits if you can't fill your freezer and enjoy the hunting experience you may want to take up golf!1 point

I agree, I would much rather be fishing for steelies than salmon but after the rain yesterday I couldn't resist hitting the salmon river and seeing what was around. Good bit of salmon pushing into the river, but only managed to land one. Won't be too much longer until the steelies start pushing into the river and creeks1 point

Why don't you wait for your grand trophy and let everyone else shoot what they are damned well happy with?? But NOOOO, you can't be that fair can you?? Then you try to accuse us that its all about us. BULL$#!+ it is!! WITHOUT AR's you guys can still hunt for your trophies all you want, while the rest of us can be happy with whatever we choose to take. WITH AR's you are limiting others to what YOU want them to take. So who is all about here?? Sure as hell ain't about us, but ALL about YOU and what YOUR idea of what hunting is all about. Just unbelievable how you guys can't get this simple fact thru your thick skulls.1 point

a go-pro... the camera that everyone uses from skydiving, surfing, hunting , to riding a bike... water proof case, HD capable , and comes with various mounting attachments.. the kodak is alright, tried that first on the bow, but the shock from the string would freeze it up and i'd have to reset it to get it to work... it has zoom on it so i use it for a trail cam card viewer, and mount it on a camera arm for self filming .... go-pro has no zoom and a fish-eye or wide angle lense, captures a good amount of area so no need to be exactly pointed at the deer....1 point

I have to agree with Grouse on this. Just seems a bit over the top for cops to shoot that many rounds. The guy was hit and going down. It's a tough job and i wouldn't want to do it, I give the a lot of credit. I spend 5 days a week in the city for the last 20 years, the police force is not what it used to be. I'll leave it at that..............1 point

Shooting bystanders is never excusable, period. Might as well let the perp do it. Your sidearm is for self defense, that goes for cops as well as CCW holders. Years ago you had a wheelgun and 6 shots. You trained to make them count. Now they have a semi with at least 12 to 16 rounds. Aimed fire has lost out. Kelly knows it. Bloomberg knows it too. Their lack of attention to this problem will now become another headache they will have to deal with. Criticize me all you want, but the problem ain't being addressed. Remember Amadu Dialo? Cost the city millions. Nothing changed. Don't ask me to reply to this issue anymore. Most things I cannot discuss. The rest don't deserve a reply. I'm done here.1 point
