  3. Back when I was young, dumb, and full of piss and vinegar ( I am no longer young, nor full of P/V) I used to enjoy following blood trails... Then, over the years, I followed a number that did not result in a recovered deer, due to weather, clotting, or whatever reason. A few were deer that I had hit, and many times I was helping friends and hunting partners track thier deer. Nowadays, I only like to follow ONE kind of blood trail.. Wide, short, and with a dead deer at the end !

  5. Romney was trying to state the fact that Obama never called the attack an act of terror during the Rose Garden speech. Candy Crowley cut Romney off and said that Obama did use the words "act of terror" but the truth was he didn't call the attack an "act of terror". When he said act of terror, he was speaking generally and not specifically to that attack. Obama words during the Rose Garden speech was "we won't let acts of terror go unpunished." By cutting in, Obama never actually responded to Romney's accusation before Crowley steer the conversation to another question. It was like Romney came at Obama with some punches and Crowley rung the bell.

  8. Not sure either where who's contracting the mark v's...... Back to the OP's questions...... 300 yds is realistic for most cartridges to shoot well without beating you up or costing you a ton for ammo. As to what to pick? If you are going to hunt it on the carry, I like to avoid a heavy wall barrel (stuff labelled like varmint/police/sniper) at the end of the day a 10 lb gun makes your arms feel like they are dragging the ground. Handle a few, see how they feel in hand. Much of this is subjective for the individual shooter; most modern medium priced guns all shoot great.

  9. Cause its just easier to have HOWA 1500's labelled for them? LOL. Had a German Weatherby that was not a pimp gun; tupperware stock double set triggers, claw mount Swaro in 300WBY......was a hell of a shooter, and not all that bad to look at. Traded it off. I have a 300WBY barrel for one of my Blasers now......lots of 270WBY happy owners out there. Fun cartridges, fast and flat. But not what I'd start out with for this OP. Buy a Remmy, 270Win,308,3006,7/08 etc, and remember to save up a little to get a decent scope on top in some good rings. Go kill stuff.....

  10. So unfortunate that a moderator of the site can't let an unproductive conversation die. I left the site years ago because the guy with the most time on his hands seems to think he knows his opinion is the only opinion that matters and he just never stops typing. I'm sure I'll get banned or something but I'm not shocked that within a short time of my observing this site again that I'm seeing the same fights by the same guy. My 2 cents on the matter and then I'm likely done... Everyone has different skill capabilities and some people also work harder than others. Given that fact, to try and say someone can't effectively do "this" or "that" is wrong. I will quickly say however that most guys are likely not skilled enough to be considering shots much over 20 yards based on my observations and experience. Further, inexperienced hunters should probably stick with shots within their experience wheelhouse. Wounding a deer literally makes me feel ill and wounding an animal is far worse than the joy of harvesting one. But based on my skill and work ethic, I'm planning on taking a shot at 47 yards if the shot presents itself again and if I know it's perfect. Wether it's 7 yards or 47 yards, I think hard on wether or not this is the right thing and what the outcome is likely to be. I tend to go above and beyond in many things I do and preparing for a certain shot is no different. Although I don't know Phade, I certainly relate to him. If you can't relate, that doesn't mean you're right or should flame on.

  15. He may have taken a hit from a vehicle or been shot. I doubt a coyote is going after a 1.5 year old deer unless the deer was in snow, sick or injured. Or it was late winter and the coyote was starving. Too many easier meals this time of year. The coyote has nill chance and would not waste the energy.

  16. The one thing that is probably true of any general rule of thumb regarding Ma Nature is that for every rule there are a jillion exceptions. And of course, I can easily come up with one example of a badly wounded deer that ran away from water, up hill ... lol. Probably could come up with a bunch more if I sat and thought about it a bit. I can only remember one deer that died near the water (actually in the water) and that one was simply because she was crossing the crick heading toward the hill. She just didn't happen to make it past the water. Actually, a good rule of thumb is that a deer will go somewhere, and that probably will be away from the hunter that shot them.

  17. Yes there are still a lot of smokers left, until you compare the number today with what there used to be. Once the government decided to change that particular behavior of its citizens and put the full force of the government against that activity, it really was wildly successful. And the result is a very tiny, insignificant minority of people that engage in smoking anymore. When the government decides to decimate an activity, they certainly have discovered the means of doing it. And they have figured out how to do it without actually outlawing the activity. So if they decided to use the same practices on guns and ammo, we can all get a peek at just how effective that could be. And all without any tampering with amendments and such.

  19. Nice shot! Who says a Wildgame can't have a cuddeback moment! I wonder if there wasn't another deer before that one that triggered it and you caught the 2'nd one. Then again, you may deserve all the credit for excellence in cam placement!

  24. the thing of it id, you can experience these simpler archery times. No one forces you to use a compound with let off and sights. Buy a recurve, throw away all the fancy toys and go hunt. You will love it.

  26. The blood trail I like is the one I make while dragging the deer out of the woods. A couple of times I even added some of my own blood to the trail. LOL

  27. I have seen 65-90, De-boned and freezer wrapped. (not vacuum sealing). If you have a guy at $50 and he does a good job I would keep his number. That is the biggest reason we went back to cutting our own.

  29. Hello Everyone! Just read through this entire thread and decided to join. Only saw a few deer with the bow this season, but nothing in range. Sat all weekend with the smoke pole, no deer, but I did shoot a nice coyote on Sunday afternoon up at my buddys camp. She cam in at around 5:40pm. Can't wait to get home tonight and head out behind the house. 3 deer on the trail cam Sunday night while I was not there! Isn't that how it always goes! LOL!

  30. I pick my nose with both hands, sometimes it makes my left eye water and sometimes my right eye... I have a funny story, and by no means will i mention the race of any individual involved so i am not assumed to be a racist. While working at a retail store a " customer" came in and paid with a credit card, when he signed the reciept his "friend" asked him if he just signed with his left hand, he replied... "fo sho man, i can sign wit bouff hands, im Nostradamus" Just about pee'd myself.

  32. did you pull over to see if it was shot before you make an assumption of a guy killing it for its rack? my guess is it did get hit by a car and someone saw it there and cut the antlers off... otherwise why would they drag it to the road to cut them off????
