First I would like to say that I don't like crossbows Secondly I would say that they should be legal and a lot of what I'm hearing is BS My father due to old age and disablitity is a crossbow hunter in PA he wouldn't he allowed to hunt in NY during archery season under current legislation. That is a disgrace. The range of a cross bow is equal to that of a bow. I can shoot my bow more accurately then I can a cross bow out to 50 yards which a far greater distance than I would shoot with either. Yes you read on archery forums of people taking 100 yard shots but I also read on this site about how many people take head shots etc... Frankly I'm going to say its mostly BS. Yes with practice and a good rest I could hit something at a 100 yards but its simply not practical and I could do the same with my bow. As hunters and sportsman alike we need to bond together in this aspect and make the sport stronger. If you don't like it don't use a crossbow. It won't take anything away from your experince and you won't see an influx of people in the woods. I saw this happen in PA and nothing changed except a few older hunters are hunting a little longer.

And beyond that I am doubtfull that a congress that can't get their act together on the fiscal cliff would really struggle on something like door to door gun confiscation. What a bunch of bafoons run this country.

I love how on the side bar on Facebook, there's pictures of some hot girl in a bikini and the actual advertisement is for mortgage refinanciing or penny stocks...has nothing to do with skantily clad women at all but they work because it does catch my eye.

And then from that day forward, you will be the proud owner of something that you will never dare take out of the house. I guess what I am saying is what purpose would it serve to run the risk of jail-time over something that you don't even dare shoot? I'm just trying to pull a little reality into the thread here. My thought is that if that day should ever come that the trooper is standing there asking where your gun(s) is, it is already too late. All the bold talk and activism needs to take place now before the gun laws ever get that far. Now is the time for solidarity behind organizations like the NRA, and non-stop letter-writing campaigns that put the fear of God into every politician who values their job. Because if we sit on our hands waiting for that day when the trooper is standing in our doorway, it will already be too late to really do anything about anything.

I know, but saying that all 223 rounds will cause more damage than a 556 round isnt necessarily true. A 223 FMJ bullet is the same as a 556 FMJ bullet. Both will do pretty much the same thing. A polymer tip hunting bullet is quite a bit different than a milspec bullet. I should correct myself in regards to the differences in the 223 and 556, the cases and primers are different, as well as the charge.

This shouldn't be a surprise. Both sides have said they would let the SS payroll tax holiday expire. It was suppose to only be in place for one year and they ended up extending it for another (2011 and 2012). I guess if you never got the 2% tax break the last 2 years you wouldn't miss it now.

Just my $.02, but if you can hook up with someone who's experienced, you can cut the learning curve greatly. If you decide to be self-taught, my suggestion would be to keep it as simple as possible as first, stick with a box or slate call or push-pin call, get an-extra-full choke for your shotgun, and scout as much as possible before the season starts. Hunting can be outstanding in the Rochester area....Monroe Co. is a perennial producer of book bucks year after year. Access to land however can be a hangup. No public land in the immediate area. If you can get access to some of the surrounding private lands you wont have any problem punching deer tags. Fishing can also be awesome. Many options. Lower Genny has seasonal trout and salmon runs and the upper river has decent fishing for warm water species. Plenty of ponds and bays along the Ontario shoreline, as well as a few smaller finger lakes less than an hour south. Caught this one today down in the lower river....

Welcome to the brotherhood! Spring Turkey hunting is the most exciting hunting there is. There are so many decoys out there to choose from. In the spring I use a strutting B-mobile Tom and a two hens spaced around the Tom. If you can get some movement in the Tom that will bring in a hung up gobbler. I am in the process of building a decoy stake that can be moved with the use of a wireless remote control. Just some slow left or right movement will have them running into my setup (I hope ) As far as calls, box calls I think are the easiest to learn. As a beginner I would stay away from mouth diaphragm calls. Very difficult to learn but once you get the pitch right they work great and free up your hands. Do a search on youtube for "turkey calling". There are some good instructional videos on there. There are only 120 days left before Spring Turkey. So if you go with the mouth calls start practicing a little everyday. Thats how i learned. Good luck and have fun practicing.

I dont think a criminal is gonna care about what rules they make or there are already...does anybody here think a criminal goes to a gun shop to buy a gun...no. all these rules do is make it harder for law abiding people to get guns.

I have 2 old rusty long guns that I aquired years ago that I wouldn't even shoot.. it might be a good way to get rid of them and get some cash.. that's really how most of these buybacks go anyway... very few people giving up any good guns.. just old stuff that someone will pay them to get rid of. It will make all the lefty's feel good, but will do nothing but cost the taxpayers money.

When I carry a .380 I use the Mag Tech Guardian Gold 85 grain +P. I tested these my self. They expand and penetrate very well. The Critical Defense stuff did well too but didn't penetrate quite as much.

I am for the death penalty for the purpose of eliminating a proven threat to the public... I am not in favor of it as a means of revenge. But why keep someone who can never be let back into society in jail for the rest of his life at the expense of the people?... eliminating the person.. protects people forever from that person.

Love my tc omega very easy to clean and great customer service even with used gun

Two guys at work use muzzle loaders only and they both shoot the TC Omega. They're muzzle loading nuts and both rave about the Omega. Is Knight still in business ?

I have a T/C ENCORE and love it very accurate.

I've got a TC Pro Hunter FX ($599 Buyer's Club price at Sportsmans Club) to go along with my TC 209 Wildcat. Absolutely love it and couldn't imagine shooting anything else. I may even give up lugging the Savage 220 during regular gun season next year.

Ive been very happy with the TC omega. Very accurate and easy to clean.

I haven't been near the tree (if it is still standing) in 25 years but I KNOW I could walk to it in a flash. Hunted those woods for a few years after then a change in ownership got me booted. Hunted in the same general area but never from the same tree again. The remnants of the wooden stand still linger I'd think. Good times.

phade..... is right...document every thing...and you should have taken time stamped pics if the blood trail and recorded the permission on your phone.....Don't expect much help from the DEC unless you are injured...I am wondering the age of your neighbor?....there could be a medical problem going on....in which case he could be a danger....you know...like i.e......they do not let Alzheimer patients drive....not a good Idea for them to have guns either...many have it for a long time with out diagnoses,,,mood swings and anger being symptoms...

Absolutely NOT just a rifle problem. I can tell you with 100% certainty this happens all the time in slug country as well. I see a lot of this especially around field edges and the surrounding woods a few hundred yds in. My guess is that many of these field deer get shot, and with the lack of landmarks in a field setting, often the exact spot the deer was standing is incorrect leading to no sign of a hit or the wrong spot entirely to begin taking up a trail. Alot of dead deer I find in the closest thickets off the fields where there are stands or blinds on the edge. Heck, many of them die right out in the open woods which really makes you wonder how that deer went unrecovered. The wrong starting point to a bloodtrail is the most likely culprit I can think of.

Also a confidence problem due to lack of range time.

That is a local problem not a rifle problem.

I have the TC Omega with the thumbhole stock. I love it. It's fun to shoot and was dead on right out of the box.

Well here is my addition, Headed out to the stand with my cousin knowing that this buck was in the immediate area and with the intention of only shooting him as we had an encounter with him two days ago but with no shot. We were hoping to get the hunt on video but things happened to fast, we were sitting in stand on a small patch of woods just off a field and had not seen a deer all morning and knew he was on a doe the night before so may of been bedded down and hanging tight. Just about 8am i head some leaves crunching right in front of us and all i saw was a huge deer with a huge rack trotting trough the woods about 70 yards away and he was on a mission. I wispered to my cousin huge buck huge buck as i put the scope on him. He then stopped and looked towards us and right before my cousin was about to say just shoot him because the camera wasnt on or even towards him i fired and he kicked and tore off. We were both so pumped standing in our stands and were about positive i put a solid shot on him we were shaking in the stand. This was by far the biggest buck either of us had seen in the woods. We got down and found where i hit him and had really good blood and found him piled up about 60 yards away. He grossed 144 1/2" with a 20 3/4" inside spread.

My brother got this 10pt at 8:30 this morning. We saw 5 different bucks this morning in 3m.

I've worked with feathers very often (though not for fletching) and I am fairly confident you might have a hard time with anything other than flight feathers-- tails and such are very soft, and don't have the right 'zip' and spring to them. I imagine that having part of the fletching collapse while shooting could cause the arrow to fly awry! Anyhow if I take a turkey this fall the flights are yours. If you need some before then, try eBay believe it or not. Most guys don't keep the wings and you will find turkey wings popping up this time of year, and also in the spring, for pretty cheap prices. Turkey feathers are legal to sell and trade, in case you were nervous about that.
