I actually had no issue with background checks, however I was pissed to see the president release a statement claiming special interest groups have got in the way of protecting the safety of our children. It has been said by both sides, that these new measures proposed by the feds and the safe act would not have prevented sandy hook. The school was locked and the kid broke in. What would have stopped him? Not a metal detector, only someone shooting him first. I'm so sick of them using the death of these children to push their socialist agenda. Propose the measure you want if you believe it'll keep guns out of the hands of criminals, but stop pretending this would have prevented 90% of the school shootings. All of those shootings were done by non-criminals who could have easily obtained guns even if this bill passed. The best part of the safe act? higher penalties for shooting first responders and selling guns to criminals (result of webster shooting). Nobody disagrees with those. But 7 rounds, AR bans, registrations etc? they do nothing to prevent school shootings. Pressure cooker shrapnel bombs are illegal and they still happen... people suck. some people are evil. Stop pretending like you can just legislate evil out of the world.5 points

I found this woodcock nest while looking for antlers today. The bird actually sat tight on it with me directly above it before she took off and landed about 40yds away. Scared the crap outta me because she was so camoflaged, I couldn't tell what she was even with my face right over her.... she's lucky I didn't have any bacon with me,lol4 points

the successful hunters will always do well regardless of the weapon...those who suck and pick up a crossbow in hopes of doing better will still suck. and eventually they will give up on that too......4 points

What a conversation over a dead yote. Look everyone brakes the law. If you say "not me" then you must not drive because I do not care who you are everyone who drives brakes the law at one time or another even if just by accident... Everyone drives too fast, slow, now cell phones, etc. Point is we all are law breakers at one point or another. Most cops let minor infractions go as most of us know. Yet the newbie officer in town is giving out tickets for everything he see's including loitering, littering, and failing to signal. As far as he is concerned any law broken is an offense. As he tires in his exuberance to excel at his job he becomes hardened and less apt to hassle people over minor infractions. So the new DEC officer is on patrol and ANY infraction is considered worth following up in his eyes. He tickets everyone for anything even if the person says that is not my apple core officer, does not matter it was by your dead deer, I have to write you up for baiting... And take your deer! Remember perspective... Yes some laws I agree with and other not so much. Speed limit 55 mph lol only that way to get more money when ticketed... Certain taxes I disagree with, like fuel, oil and cigarettes. My right to bear arms! And the degradation of its fabric the second amendment. If I lived in upstate and had to deal with coyotes all year as a threat then if one comes in the back yard and I can take him then he is done... And it would be legal as long as you owned or occupied. Funny how some of you get up on your high horse and state that the person will be tracked by IP address for a DEC check... Seems this post was meant to start something... I do not like coyotes. I hate poachers more... But at times I can understand someone who is perceived as a poacher due to some overzealous officer... I know some serious hunters who have been ticketed for unproven infractions yet it makes them look like poachers... I can understand a poacher who is doing this to feed his family, call me wrong and say that encourages bad "ethics" but hell if he need to do this to survive, well not much more to say... Just remember perspective. The beginning of this post was about if he took the animal legal or not. It seems if he took it in NY he would be justified as per the law stated above. No one is going after him for this because it was legal... Eventually I hope to have a different perspective once I finally move where the deer roam free... And I can shoot them dam YOTES!!! LOL LAAA3 points

A recent email from a friend who I won't disclose (Joesph) made me ponder the question, what if we had cell phone cameras back in the 60's, 70's and 80's when I was a bit "on the edge"? I guess the 60's wouldn't have produced many troublesome pics for me but the mid 70's to the mid 90's could possibly have got me jail time. (I'm kidding) Think of the video's we could have had, oh baby........... Lots of great memories that are only stashed away on the hard drive in my brain. Boy did we have fun.......................2 points

Lol ..... Woodchucks are rodents, hence the mental connection to rats (emotional response = disgusting, hated animal). The coyote is a cute little fuzzy puppy-dog style animal (emotional response = Rover). Well, of course that is said in a kind of tongue-in-cheek sort of fashion, but there may be more emotional truth in that than you might actually want to believe. There is an awful lot of law that is emotion-based.2 points

Maybe we should have the background checks for this. Maybe all explosive shuold fall under legislation like this. how about Gasoline? I think we should have to have a background check for that too...lol. Freaking idiots.2 points

Strength of pro-gun support may vary be region, however the Constitution is not regional. The Senators didn't fail, they listened to their Constituents. It's what they are supposed to do.2 points

What does it matter what I do? My personal tasting preference are the backstraps. I don't care for the hamburger meat, etc. Instead of paying $90 to get the deer butchered, now I pay nothing and get the backstraps. The rest of the meat goes to a food bank. It's a win-win for everyone.1 point

First of all, you seem to be making the assumption that he knew you were there and did that on purpose. Maybe he did, but my bet is that he didnt mean to. Even if he had seen you and turned around, youd still call him a clown and cop your attitude against him. Second, that kind of thing has happened in the past during bow season as well, the stories are posted up on here each year. Dont believe me? Go through the bow hunting and deer hunting sections and youll find them. The only difference in many of the stories are the color of the hat and the weapon being carried. Shoot, that type of thing has happened to me on private ground, whats the difference? I still see and kill deer, sometimes not long after some "clown" goes by. It happens, and is part of hunting, get over it. Third, if you want less of a chance of dealing with the "slobs" or "clowns", you have a couple of options. If you hunt public ground, get back deeper into places that the majority of hunters dont go. Dont hop up in your climber 100 yards from the parking lot and then piss and moan because someone walked by you. The other option is to hunt private land. Go get permission or buy your own land, then you dont have as much to worry about.1 point

Actually GUNOWNERS OF AMERICA played a large role. Support them as well as the NRA. This makes it so obvious why Herr Cuomo cirvumvented the legislative process to push through his SAFE ACT. Now, we are left to overturn it...if it can be overturned.1 point

I guess I can keep my yote season going! Now I need to re- mount my shooting light and bust out the calls. Hell, I'll just tie my dog out and say the yotes were a threat. Anybody got a foxpro to sell me? I was going to wait til after deer season to get one but now it's game on! Or maybe I'll put a pile of meat scraps and say the yotes are messing it up! lol The law is bit vague if you ask me! I'm a coyote hunter. I have immense respect for them. They are by and far better hunters than any man could ever be. What disapointed me was all the folks saying that it's just a coyote, but then again what would a good discussion be without differing views? I'm over coyotes til' October. Bring on the gobblers! Good luck and be safe out there1 point

I'm pretty sure the people who own the land want as many deer killed is possible, if these guys only hunted to shoot big deer, that would defeat the purpose of allowing these guys on their property.......and like I said before, allow a camera crew to film most of our hunting camps for a season and I'm sure a lot of us would look like morons if it was put on tv, every camp has a smoker, loud mouth, guy who thinks he's smarter then everyone else, you name it.1 point

Hang with the guys from Chasing Tail, they can show you how to get a place to hunt1 point

only time will tell i guess. if they become legal then 10 years from now we will have data to look at and really decide if they helped or hurt the community. Nobody on either side right now can claim they will help or hurt. We can hypothesize, but only time will tell.1 point

and then you can do your dance and buy your crossbow. I will be so envious of you and the other crossbow hunters hunting out of tree forts with your bow out the window resting on a bipod.1 point

I have to wonder what planet any gun owner would have to be from to not immediately wonder how the anti-gun crazies will use this tragedy to feed their anti-gun agendas. It has become a regular expectation to watch the liberal media and the gun-banning loonies link all tragedies to gun control. We know how unhappy it makes them that guns weren't used so they could make further use out of this to extend their agenda. Heaven help us if it turns out that gun powder was the propellant for the bombs.1 point

Holy CRAP, Dude !! We have goody two shoes over on the " Dropped That Coyote " thread suggesting that one might lose his hunting license in 32 states for shooting a fricken COYOTE hanging around his barn !! Now you are suggesting that poor Growie should violate the animal cruelty law by shooting poor kitty cats ?? There are articles in the paper weekly where citizens are charged with " cruelty to animals" for shooting unwanted dogs and cats... Are you trying to get Growie in TROUBLE ???.. ANARCHIST..!!...1 point

Oh good lord, look what i missed. Sorry if i didnt answer any emails or pms, ive been busy. The language is unacceptable, no bones about it. As for the length of time for a comment, its been covered. I will say that I didnt hear a darn one of the people here complaining about the 2nd ammendment references, calling out the liberals for starting the rhetoric before the kids in Sandy Hook's bodys were cold. I havent heard one of you condemn anyone for parading the kids parents around Washington, or use that and the Aurora tragedies as fodder for their agendas. Double standards are convenient, arent they?1 point
