I still have a ton of pics to load, but I'll get the field photo out of the way for starters! The rest of the day was interesting to say the least, so stay tuned. Had one gobbling across the field first thing this morning. I knew as soon as I hit my call he was gonna shut right up like he had so many times already. I let him go off on his own for an hour before I couldn't resist any longer. After my first series, he never gobbled again. I sat tight for another hour when I heard some gobbling behind me from the other direction. What the heck, I aint got nothing to lose, so I called like a lunatic turkey on crack corn! To my surprise he fired right back at me and I worked him for another 15 minutes. Suddenly all went silent but he had to be so close... but where? Off to my right an alarming gobble shocked me to attention! Two jakes snuck in on me at 40yds so I took aim and flopped one! He thrashed around for a bit and got back on his feet and started walking again. I dug through my pockets to find another shell and let him have it again! I haven't put much effort into turkey the last few years so I'm coming off a 5yr drought.....and then comes the rest of the story and pics of another wild encounter I'll post later!7 points

I get them too. What hackers do is just send a spam message out that looks legit. With a link, saying you need to change you password. So just think if they send out 100,000 spam emails and just 1 percent click on the link, that is 1000 people's account information they will get. Then the hackers, have a new account to send there spam from or to do other things.1 point

I wouldn't shoot one. Had one pass by me 20 years ago and never even thought about it. But......I have no ill feelings towards anyone that does kill one.1 point

Well, I finally did it. Went up to my place in Chenango County with my brother. On Saturday the 4th set up on a little clover field we have on the property and the birds were going crazy! Had one bird about 150 yards away to our right, I believe roosted in some hemlocks near another little clover field, that must have gobbled 30 times on his own. Heard birds all around us and then another single gobble close to our left near some other pines. I tried calling after daylight but did not get any real response to my calling so I waited. Then about 6 am a crow sounded off and I heard a gobble nearby. A few minutes later the crow sounded off again and the bird shock gobbled a second time and he was getting closer. I then made a few clucks with my old knight and hale mouth call waited then followed up with another series a few minutes later then they came sneaking in. 3 jakes came up to the plot. I wanted my brother to get a shot (even though I have never taken a turkey in my life) because he just got back into hunting after taking a 2 year layoff due to an accident and work issues. Problem was my brother was to my left and the birds came from my right. I waited as log as I could (seems like it was 10 minutes but probably only 10 seconds HA) and then took my shot because the birds were acting a little squirrely when looking at my hen decoy. One shot with the Mossberg 835 (old school gun at least 12 years old in mossy oak shadow branch camo pattern) with Pure gold choke shooting Winchester 3 1/2 inch shells put him right down with only a little wing beat thereafter. Finally, I have been hunting these birds hard, practice, watch every video, have every possible turkey implement in my vest and it finally happened. Even though it was only a jake it was still a great experience because of how it all unfolded and my brother with a front row seat. And the fried turkey fingers that followed were the icing on the cake.1 point

Spurs tend to range in color from solid black to brown to gray. I've killed a few that were clear colored with black tips. They're my favorites. Some examples of color variations in my area...1 point

Bird #2 Called him in at 11:49 AM 32 yrds... had a flock of 5 jakes strutting and gobbling around but he only gobbled once the whole way in... 10" Beard 1" Spurs red line= my entrance to area red box on left= first setup blue box farthest north= first saw gobbler blue circle= farthest I called him in... (couldnt get a shot, brush in the way) blue line= he circled around through the woods... red box on right= setup #2 yellow box= decoy blue box near decoy= where he died EDIT: BTW phade pointed out to me that the beard is actually 10.5" ( http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/16348-gobbler-2-down/?p=209529 ) and i went and checked and sure enough... Does that count? or did i need to right it on the card? I suppose i still could but it would only be the legs, beard, tail, and card in the picture cause the bird is getting cut up for the soup pot...1 point

It is not a replacement for experience of actually shooting your bow. It certainly has the novelty of getting you ballpark accurate, but when I'm slinging an arrow, ballpark isn't going to fill the tag on most occassions.1 point

This law is confusing and flawed. It is due to the fact that Cuomo needed to rush this out there while the spotlight was brightest. He seized maximum publicity and support by being the first to enact strict gun control as a kneeJERK reaction to the Newtown shooting. Despicable.1 point

As long as they make the Rage broad head I will use then. Fly just like a filed point and the deer I've shot with them have all fallen within sight of my stand. Very little tracking.1 point

Hmm. It is bearded, but a hen. Maybe if desperate at the end of the season. It is similar to whether or not you shoot an antlered doe - they are not common, but do exist.1 point

Remember the saying, "You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig." Well, "You can put a beard on a hen, but it's still a hen!"1 point

You mean the same "tree forts" that I now hunt out of with my vertical bow? Just FYI, I will probably buy a crossbow, but I wont be changing the way I hunt (except for the normal advancements, etc that I would make regardless), I wont be giving up my vertical bow, or anything like that. If I do get a crossbow, it wont be on a bipod or anything like that, and Ill be taking the same shots as I would with a vertical bow, because i realize they arent much different. Nothing I do will affect you or anyone else, and none of the doomsday scenarios that NYB and their ilk profess will come to fruition.1 point
