  1. what they'll be asking ammo manufacturers to do, is invest money into retooling their machines so they can stamp identifying marks onto ammo brass.......they'll just stop sending ammo to NY.

  4. You'll have a much better idea of the talent pool after Labor Day weekend once the velvet comes off and they break-up. One buck that's me and my hunting partner are after is known to be a resident on our hunting ground from Sept. through Feb./Mar. He's been eyeballed on an adjacent property a few times this summer that has some quality summer food sources, but we haven't picked him up on camera on our ground, which is largely bedding and transition. It's a bit dicey not having the pics this summer, but it's much more comfortable knowing that we have the pics from Sept. through Feb/March and have his sheds. He'll be coming home soon enough. Every time I get worried about the lack of pics or smaller than expected growth, I have to remind myself that things almost always change around Labor Day weekend.

  10. While watching Moonshiners which I do like, there was a commercial for a new show featuring Tickle from moonshiners. They're going to name the show Tickle. What a joke! Why would I watch the Discovery channel to see a lame brained drunkard flirt with disaster. Yeah, driving around with an open can of beer is really something that children should be seeing.

  11. they can't even figure out how to enforce, fund and effectively run the Safe Act as it is...........can you imagine them trying to pull this off?

  14. The right small piece of ground is better than the big not nearly as right piece of ground. Not all acreage is equal. Lots comes into play into this question. I just think the most lacking thing is hunter skill. So many people spend the time and money "managing" land and never really taking the time to learn how to kill those bucks that take advantage of the management. Managing can only take you so far...it doesn't pull the trigger for you though.

  16. You peeled the right banana there Doc, the idea that people are even proposing these things is mind boggling. Brings me back to the very night the safe act was passed and numerous NY lawmakers stood up and stated that the safe act was only the beginning and that they wouldn't rest until there were no guns whatsoever in the state of NY....

  17. Actually, it doesn't take a passed and signed bill to warrant getting bent out of shape. Just the fact that there are jerks out there proposing this stuff is enough to send one off the deep end. They know that if you throw enough crap up against the wall, some of it is bound to stick. This sort of thing is just another legalized harassment of gun owners in that we are now going to have to send out the letters and email, and our advocacy groups are going to have to dip into their treasuries once more to send out all the warnings and calls to action. These creeps know that and that is why the constant barrage of these nonsensical proposals. At some point we are going to have to understand that we have to foster political fear in the minds of these politicians and make them understand that their votes have consequences. What bothers me is the growing attitudes that you often see here of people who simply say, "I will not comply" and then act like the problem is solved. No .... the problem is not solved. Every one of these legal assaults on the 2nd Amendment turns millions of legitimate gun owners into criminals that are eligible for felony convictions and jailing. Just saying you will not comply does absolutely nothing. The proper reaction whether we like it or not has to be a letter writing campaign that puts the fear of God into these legislators. Until people understand that, we will continue to lose our legal rights to self-protection and the legal use of firearms or become part of the criminal element in this country. They say that "freedom is not free". They are right. It requires diligence, intelligence and quick reactions and efforts.

  18. Guys if you care about your gun rights get onto the NYFirearms.com site and keep abreast of the laws and legal proceedings that are in the works right now to help us get our rights back. It a very informative site and has attorneys who are on the front lines in the war against the guy whos pissing on your 2nd amendment rights, King Cuomo. Look for posts made by NYshooter, he's a lawyer who is keeping the gun owners of NY well informed on whats happening. There is hope and the cases filed against the state look very good.

  21. That wont be the case with the larger stores, you can bet on that. Inventory will be just like BPS/Cabelas. Phade is right, Dicks knows what they are doing.

  22. I understand what you're saying about both stores but the one thing Cabela's has over Dick's (in my opinion) is quality of the products and availibility. Tink's is Tink's no matter where you get it but the clothing selection doesnt compare. Also, at Dick's if you dont buy it pre-season they figure you dont need it.

  24. I would be VERY scared of a battery powered gun... what if your battery "Happens" to go dead in freezing cold weather in late muzz and a monster 14 point buck walks by? i can almost promise you would feel like killing yourself for that...

  25. That's silly talk right there...access in the golden triangle area and you haven't pounced. You are killing me Smalls. Nobody brought up outfitters. Whether its public land, leasing, or knocking on doors, it all takes work. Problem is, your idea of workload is much higher than what most people are willing to deal with. For me, money is less of an issue as long as it is reasonable. The bigger issue is time. If I take a week off, that time needs to be logistically spent the best way possible. Not at an outfitter, but having done the leg work ahead of time. When I go to Ohio...I usually go 2x. I scout the heck out of it for a weekend in March...so when I go down there in November, I don't need to spend as much time glassing, speed scouting, etc. Going to the midwest makes this much more difficult to do, because I don't need to burn a vacation day to go to Ohio for a weekend. Nebraska...I'd need two days if I hurried. You should just go to Ohio...good caliber of bucks and LOTS of public land for a state east of the Mississippi. Tags are cheaper and you can be on public Ohio ground in 4 hours from your house in Monroe County.

  30. its not the land but hunter densities in the mid west, average rec property here 30 acres or so, 50 if your lucky. there small farms are 440 acres. large can be thousands. put the 2-4 guys at average camp in nys on 30 acres, and 2-4 on 440..big difference... deer can get old not from trigger control but just cause they are not hunted...the growing of there deer isn't them growing them its a 1 buck limit and hundreds to choose from. so wait for a good one. here some people never even see a buck...
