  2. I have to say that there are an awful lot of unpleasant personalities being exposed in this thread. It looks like there are a few that I definitely wouldn't care to meet in person and absolutely couldn't stand to be around for very long. Some of the arrogance and just plain unfriendliness probably is something I could have gone a whole lifetime without encountering. There are way too many self-deluded experts here that are like a bunch of jackals that simply lay in wait for any opportunity to flame any mistake that may occur in a topic. That seems to be their whole reason for belonging to forums. Who the hell needs that? I have to wonder just how much conversation is squelched because of the arrogance of some of these people who truly love to take advantage of someone's bad luck and do their best to make them feel even worse.

  4. If you conduct yourself as WNY said there would be no lying. If they asked to se my long guns they would be headed for a warrant to do so. Why? Becasue that is how the game is played. If they want more rules they better be prepared to play by all of them as well.

  5. I think it is ethical to do our best to perform the task at hand. Primarily we are inthe business of herd reduction. If we can do it legally, within the limits set by the DEC and do not waste the venison, I do not see an ethical issue. shoot 'em if you got 'em. I know a lot of folks that love venison and do not hunt. when they have their fill I will donate the rest. Personally I don't quit until the season ends or I run out of tags. (still waiting for the latter to happen..lol)

  8. That pic has been made to take a shot at us. Look at that arrow and broadhead. Those things are from the freakin 70's. If this is a real pic..Which i do not believe it is..Some kid got into his old mans old time bow stuff and took a shot. Very hard pic to look at and thats just what the anti's and the people against hunting want people to see!!

  11. Just got back from the range after shooting my new muzzleloader, the LHR Redemption. I was very impressed and can see why it got the muzzleloader of the year award from Field and Stream. This is built in NH by the former T/C design engineers who left when T/C moved to Springfield with Smith and Wesson. The gun has some very innovative features including being hammerless, using a match trigger and using a breech plug system that eliminates the inside threading of the barrel. The breach is held in with a collar that now puts the threading on the outside of the barrel eliminating trying to clean those breech plug threads. Without the threading the rifling now is all the way down into the barrel which improves accuracy. The barrel, made by Green Mountain, is coated both inside and out, a first. The process, called armonite, does not change the diameter and is advertised as being corrosion proof. Pretty innovative stuff and all made in the US. I took it out to the range and shot about 20 rounds through it using Blackhorn 209 powder and Shockwave 250's. I mounted a 2-7 Leupold Ultimate Slam on it and shot sub inch groups at 100 yards and one and a half inch groups at 200 yards. No doubt this gun will now be my go to muzzleloader. I like my Omega, and it has served me well, but this thing has too many other features that I need to put through the paces. If you haven't seen it check out their website: http://lhrsportingarms.com/ Rick

  12. 1 1/2. Look at the body on it. Long legs, lack of front shoulder/chest development, hind quarters taller than shoulders. Easy one to age. Grey face? Come on. Deer markings are all slightly different. You will never affect the genetics of a wild herd. Cull schmull.

SO YOU TAKE A TOP HUNTING STATE LIKE IOWA , HUGE OCEANS OF CORN, ANYWERE THATS TILLABLE ITS CORN, SOYBEAN, THE MAJORITY OF THAT IS CUT BY THE 3RD WEEK IN OCTOBER. AGAIN DEPENDING ON THE DRY CONDITIONS. VERY SMALL WOODLOTS HEDGEROWS, ALL THEY REALLY ARE ISLANDS IN THE CORN MAYBE 5- 10 ACRE WOODLOTS CORN GETS CUT BINGO PATTERN THE DEER. OH WELL THATS HUNTING, NOT TOO MANY HUNTING VIDEOS ARE FILMED IN N.Y., YOU GET A DEER HERE WHAT EVER SEX OR SIZE TO ME YOUR DOING SOME THING RIGHT AND SHOULD BE PROUD, THE CONDITIONS ARE NOT EASY TO SAY THE LEAST. I DONT MEAN THE MIDWEST STATES ARE YOU HUNT THEM YOU COME HOME WITH A 140 CLASS EVERY TIME, BUT I DO THINK THEY CAN BE A LITTLE MORE HUNTER FRIENDLY

  17. Saturday (10/26) - Morning hunt in the Creek Ladder Stand; Temps in the 40's and breezy with stronger gusts out of the SW. I was hoping they would be moving with the rut creeping up on us and with the storm front that's due to move in later in the day....And they were moving - -Seen a coyote and 5 bucks! At about 8:20 AM I heard some grunting mixed in the wind that sounded like it came from somewhere in front of me. I tried picking apart the landscape in front of me. Then finally some movement about 40 - 50 yards off caught my eye and I could see deer legs moving...then I saw antlers. It was a buck and coming my way. He was grunting and moving slowly in the right direction. As he was getting closer the binocs confirmed it was a SHOOTER through the thick brush but he had stopped moving. Then I saw some deer legs to my left. It was a smaller buck, a little 3 or 4 point. The next thing I know the shooter buck runs at the smaller buck. Now I could see that the shooter was a mature 8 point. The smaller buck ran towards me and went by less than 10 yards from my tree but the 8 didn't follow. Instead, he ambled back towards the thick brushy area and started to rub a tree. Then while watching him I saw another deer coming through the area. A small 6 point was walking towards the 8 point. But the 8 wasn't going to have any of that - the next thing I know, the 8 point ran at the 6 point and chased him right by my tree. Then the 8 point circled back towards the thick brushy area. Now the 6 point was walking right behind my tree - less than 5 yards from my tree; thankfully the wind direction was right. As the 6 point crossed behind me, the 8 point didn't like him circling towards the thick brush area again and the 8 point started walking towards him and grunting...Perfect...right towards my shooting lane. Now the 8 point is standing less than 20 yards from me but with a tree directly in front of his vitals. I stood at full draw for what seemed like an eternity waiting for him to take that final fatal step...but he didn't. Instead he turned directly away and walked in line of that darn tree. As I was thinking about blowing on my grunt tube, I heard movement behind me again...Oh yeah, that little 6 point was still there. Now when he walked again, the 8 point had enough of that. He turned again, heading to the 6 point and again heading towards my shooting lane. This time he walked like a deer with a mission towards the 6 pointer but again managed to stop behind a tree. As I was at full draw again, he finally did it...He took the step I needed exposing his chest region. He was about 18 - 20 yards away and staring at that little 6 point. I let the arrow fly......THWACK; God I love that sound of a good hit. The buck ran towards the pines and out of sight but I heard a crashing sound within seconds of him running away. I was hoping the crash was him going down and not just running through the pines. I was concerned about the shot because the buck had bolted towards the 6 point seemingly at about the same time I released my arrow. I let my arrow fly at about 8:45 and I waited until 10:00 to be sure since I was concerned about the hit. Funny thing...while sitting there two other smaller bucks, a small 6 that could have been that 6 from earlier and a 4 point came through the area. When I got down and went to the spot the buck was standing at the shot...No blood and No arrow. Oh boy...Not liking this. I got on my knees and looked in the direction that I thought I heard the crash and ... Oh Yeah...white belly just into the pines! As I headed that way now, I came across some decent blood and found my arrow. Then, I walked up to him...Oh Yeah...a nice mature 8 point bucK! Love this time of year! Good Luck all.....Hunt Safe, Hunt Hard, & Have Fun!

  24. True, BUT and here a big BUT law enforcement makes up BS to support their goals. your honor upon approaching the vehicle i saw the suspect reach towards his passenger seat which gave me cause to believe he had a weapon, ect... they do it all the time if they find nothing they let you go if they find something they make up the BS that gave them probable cause, most people don't have thousands of dollars to afford a defense, unless of course your rich and famous, oh yeah that's right those guys never goto jail

  25. any law officer that asks consent to see something in your care does not have the proper probable cause, if they did they wouldn't ask

  36. Got another one this eve... i saw the doe from the rd on my way home in a tractor... as soon as i got home i grabbed my gun and headed back up the rd... walked down into the field as a big flock of geese took off, i thought oh shoot now its gonna run and quick ran the last little bit into the field... i just ran into the field and saw it running, just as it took its last leap into the edge of the field i shot... blew her back legs off kinda but she went down and only went a few feet past that... it looked like someone had a bucket of blood and was dumping it on the ground... i ran up and nailed he in the head to finish her off... i still have 2 more tags to fill so i should have plenty of meat this yr :) Blood!!! 2 deer in 3 days... not bad eh?

  43. Two totally different results with the two weapons. I won't hunt in the rain with a bow if it is substantial. I will with a gun because I know I can anchor them where they stand with a shoulder shot. No tracking required. I have been on tracking trips for friends to try an recover deer shot with a bow. One this year was a high hit with no exit down low. it started pouring and the blood was gone. even the blood we marked during the tracking was nothing but wet toilet paper with no sign of blood. It wasn't a great shot. Hey it happens even in good weather on bluebird days. but I think these threads, if nothing else give some reading to new bowhunters so they understand the real risks that we run into and gives them more information to base their decissions. on . I don't think you are doing them a service by painting a picture that bowhunting in the pouring rain doesn't come with risks of not recovering. And Ants---hope you find him.

  49. I went hunting with a buddy last Sun. to some state land I found and he and I had checked out a few months ago.Never hunted there before Sun.I found a nice patch of pines mixed with hardwoods and lots of branches to hide me near a cornfield.I climbed a pine with my climber and was really happy about the spot I had found.About 4:30 I saw a doe and 2 younger deer heading towards the corn about 75 yds. out.Hmm,maybe next time I should move over there I thought. At about 5:45 I looked over my right shoulder behind me and saw a deer on the trail only about 30 -40 yds from me.It was browsing on the leaves and when it moved I saw it had antlers.I tried to turn 180 degrees but I wouldn't have been able to draw my bow and the buck was now walking toward me.I froze and watched to both my dissapointment and amusement as the buck walked through the brush and right to the tree I was in and started eating more green leaves and possibly smelling the tree I was in.Boy was I glad I didn't drop my pull rope back to the ground like I usually do ! I literally could have spit on him.He stayed there for several minutes and I hoped he wouldn't smell the pepper venison sticks I had eaten on the ride there. Finally things went my way and fatty basket buck started walking to my left still oblivious that I was about 12 feet above him.I started to raise my bow, bumped it on the armrest (oops) and when he was at about 5 yds. I got the right pin on him and heard a voice in my head say "aim low".I pulled the release, heard a loud "whack" and watched the buck jump and take off running in an arc through the woods. The sound of breaking sticks and branches sounded like a heard of cattle going through.I found half the arrow with the 100 grain fixed broadhead attached covered in blood 10 yds. from where I shot the buck. The blood trail was not good so with the wet leaves I decided to walk slowly and see if I could see him.About 50 yds. from my stand I saw a white belly and cautiously approached with an arrow nocked. He was dead with the fletching half of the arrow inside his ribcage. The arrow went in behind the shoulder, broke a rib and exited in front of the opposite shoulder/low neck.Lots of internal bleeding. This was only my second buck ever taken with a bow and the first with my new Bear bow, I will remember it for a long time and so will my buddy because he helped me drag it back to his truck in the dark.I love bowhunting .
