If you're excited enough to upload a picture, make a post and say "on my hit list" you should be excited enough to know he's running around in the woods where you are hunting. A 10 point deer by any standard is something to be proud of. Who is to say that you will ever get the chance to have a shot or the opportunity to let him walk. I hunted a 10 2 years ago that was always just out of range or at a different trail than I expected. Opening day of gun my friend shot him with his muzzle loader in a field. I shook his hand and said congrats with a bitter taste in my mouth but I was happy for his experience. The concept that he's your deer and you'd be mad if your neighbor shot him for not letting him grow is blasphemous. If your that concerned about letting deer grow sit down with your neighbors and make a plan, then make a hit list.2 points

I came back for this because I noticed it being mentioned in a thread I would rather help those locally and I also like to know where the meat is actually going. I understand that some people find taking anything that might help them as charity and just shy away. Also some just prefer to handle their own deer. So I put a notice up...that I enjoy hunting but can't use all the meat from the many tags I get. I would like to donate a whole deer to someone that wants and can use the meat. This letting them know it would be helping me as well as themselves. Well this is what happened so far : I hope this gives those thinking about it an incentive.I asked him if he wanted me to hold off for cooler weather and he said yes...I will probably skin it for him as well and quarter it if he needs. Hoping for more calls. PS............ checked with the DEC to make sure I know everything that needs to be done for a legal transfer2 points

i have done logging roads and log landings. clover/turnips they are effective if you can get enought light to them.. cuttin limbs and trees on southern edge to allow maximum light is big help. roads are usually devoid of topsoil , i was fortunate enough to have piles of it along the road and i put 2 in back in areas i wanted to plant. this is a log landing in turnip and clover, fert with 10-10-10 2x1 point

Most crossbows arent much faster than a compound bow anyway. The only real advantage is not having to draw, but you still have to move to get into position and aim, so you dont gain much. You lose on the ability to take a second shot. Ill wait to buy mine until people start getting disenchanted with them once they figure out they arent like a gun.1 point

Is it really a coincidence that DMP applications fall at the same time that they start charging for that application? The fact that they are surprised is what I find shocking. The government has made an art out of diminishing certain public behaviors via taxation (cigarettes, booze, gas, etc.). So why be surprised that this kind of taxation of DMP applications is having the same result.1 point

hahahahahaha ok, Vicks it is then. Better yet, go for the safer shot placement.1 point

Yes, but I'm not too sure I should disclose. I try not to give up other people's hunting/fishing spots. I WILL however say it was in WMU 3J.1 point

+1 on the good job Grow. Each year I try and donate a couple to my buddy's family. Some years it doesn't work out for one reason or another, others things fall into place nicely......like last year! My buddy said that if by chance I could get two, take them. He had a few DMAP tags so I did, three came by and two were reduced to bag. It darn near broke my heart to let them go (give them away) as they were two nice 1.5 year old doe. Good shots and easy to get out.........................oh well, they were tickled to get them!1 point

so out of all those cases in the DEC chart 355 (that vast majority) are waterfowl and attributed to lead shot, which has been banned for the latter half of the chart data period. We have no idea from this what cases took place pre or post ban. Without that data a person could just as easily assert that the major issue has been dealt with and the other cases are minimal especially bullets.1 point

Saturday my 12 year old took the Hunter Safety Course and is now a certified hunter. He has the lifetime I got him when he was 4 so now I have it in the mail to Albany to get his licenses. Can't just go to licensing agent. Sunday got out back and cleared my trails, checked my ladder stands and resecured them. Got a couple decent bucks on cam. A 9 and an 8 and a few little ones. Nothing real big yet. Need to get down to the hole and check my two stands there and check the cam.1 point

Good point! If anyone has every shot a Xbow out to 40-50yrds, you clearly become aware of the potential of a deer "jumping the string". Of course, you can hit the bull's-eye at those distances! But.... as you pull the trigger, hear the loud thud of the string and watch the arrow/bolt arc through the air to the target, it seems to take an eternity for it to arrive. And this is in addition to the distinct click of the safety before the shot. And..the noise, movement & time required to prepare for any 2nd chances make it almost nonexistent. Anyone that is contemplating buying a Xbow with the falsely advertised perception of doubling their compound bow's range &/or hunting (shooting) like you previously had with a vertical bow - think again!!1 point

Westchester , huh ...... I guess you would put a pillow to it's head then place the pistol barrel to the pillow and pull the trigger . That's what they do in the movies .1 point

I.age with what.moog said close your eyes draw the bow back.open.your eyes if you.cant.see clearly.have the Peep fixed every year when I start practicing with my bow I do.this the first few times a shoot it helps me with my form and any target panic. Good luck1 point
-
like I said, probably a form issue. Proline does a good job, it its recently tuned then it may not be the bow. take a smartphone and have someone record you shooting from a few angles. if your comfortable maybe post it up, someone would probably be better able to help then. if not take it back to Proline and have them watch you shoot.1 point

Sounds like with the new release you are having a tough time replicating your anchor. Peep may need to move to be consistent and have the proper view. Try drawing the bow with eyes closed and anchor. Then open your eyes. Is the peep lined up with the sight and your eye? If not, peep adjustments must be made. You may also want to go back to your old release if the new one isn't working well.1 point

I agree with some of the points that have been made, but everyone needs to cool down. We don't need to sing Kumbaya or anything, but there are ways to make the same point without sounding like a jerk. Personally, I wouldn't shoot that buck because he is young. A neighbor might shoot him and then again maybe he'll make it to next year, that's just the chance I would take.1 point

Welcome aboard! Tags are 1 buck rifle and one of either sex with bow. I believe if you have a tag from another state that is proof you have taken the safety course for bow. The original safety certificate is proof and good for 10 years I believe if you still have that.1 point
