Well finally got it done, Got out of work early Wednesday to move my Stand, long story short, Another hunter moved in on my Spot that I have been hunting for 5yrs. Scouted new area with swamp/pines/and hardwoods, found tons of sign, finally get stand set up at 2pm, cut some shooting lanes and then walk around alittle , jump 2 nice doe but didn't shoot because it was 50 degrees and didn't want to be rushed cutting up a deer. get back to my stand at 330 and was going to sit till dark to see if this was a good evening stand, at 4pm this bruiser shows up out of no-where walking straight at me, at 50 yds I put the crosshairs on the white patch on his neck and squeeze the trigger and he dropped like a rock.18 points

I managed to fill my freezer with a couple of bucks and a doe. This was one of my better seasons leaving me with one wall hanger and a little 6 point. Here is the 6 point. He scored 85" b&c, not bad if you ask me at least for a 6 point. Here is the 10 point. He scored 135" b&c and that was with a 14 1/2" inside spread. Lots of mass just under 5" all the way up to the g3's. G2's were 10" G3's 8" and 9". Great deer with a head of a horse.8 points

Wednesday 11-25. Not a beast of a buck by any means but respectable size to his body. Shot him seconds after looking at a back tag my Pop gave me for good luck to put in my tag holder. 25 yards with muzzle loader. Six point6 points

The doe on the left is the one i got this am, My buddy and i decided too just stand around in the woods this am, We figured that people would start pushing the deer and sure enough, after 20 mins of just standing there shooting the bull, Four doe ran into the wood lot, I took aim with my 30-30 and dropped her in her tracks, The deer on the right is my buddies deer, He asked if he could bring his daughter with him to hunt last night, so i threw a ground blind up in the middle of a large hay field and this bb comes out with a smaller one, At the time he didnt realize it was a bb, but it doesnt really matter, His daughter was happy and seeing as he is injured and cant walk right now, And i didnt have to drag the deer very far, I didnt mind him shooting it, His daughter cant wait till she is old enough to hunt, That is what its about for me, Passing down the tradition, Sorry for the pick up pics but in hurry to get to the butcher and then home to get ready for dinner,6 points

Lookie what showed up on my cam on Wednesday at 1:45 in 20 yards in front of my ground blind. I arrived at my parking spot (only about 75 yards from my GB) at 1:30 that day. Looks like he's been hitting the HGH! I am fearful that an arrow won't be enough to take him down!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

It only took 8 weeks but I was finally able to connect. Sat in my ground blind tonight. She came out at 3:20 walking through the tall grass. Was at 10 yards at one point but I had no shot. She finally cleared and turned broadside at 36 yards. The Obsession bow and Rage broadhead did the rest. She ran about 40 yards and piled up from the double lung shot. Glad to finally get one on the ground! Let's hope it's all down hill from here. She dressed out at 105 lbs.4 points

Well after putting in over 150 hrs last year, my first season. I hit dirt today. My friend and I built some stands in an old logged area we didn't hunt last year. We have sat them on opened weekend 8 hours both days. Sunrise and sunset. We saw deer the first morning but moving too fast in the thick. And saw about 6 in a neighbors field.. This am he went to his old stand and I sat the new one. About 830 I looked up from my book at a sound and had a doe coming through in range broadside. I got the rifle up and picked a slot farther ahead of her that a clear shot.. I had about 3 foot gap. Waited and took the shot... She took off into the woods. I thought I had missed her. As I sat stunned from my first shot ever I saw 2 more does coming down the same line. They had stopped and duckedinto a trail behind some SCrubb. We had agreed to fill each others doe tags if the opportunity arose. So I lined up for a shot in a clearing ahead of them. And took the shot., she jumped and then ran 10 yards and they hung up in the scrub. I sat there after radioing the situation to my partner. I watched them for 5 minutes in the thicket. The smaller doe walked towards me and stared me down. I could see the one I shot in the scrub and that she was limping.but mostly just standing. I waited. Suddenly they take off. I lose visual. A few minutes later deer come crashing from thickets between my partner and I. He comes out shortly after. He had come.straight to me instead.of taking our trail on the outskirts. He had kicked the wounded doe out of her bed. I was pretty steamed as we had alot of time to sit still. And he should have gone the long way. Long story short.... I had hit the first deer. Hair and bright thick blood at impact. The piled up and thrashed 20 yards from the hit. Just down a small trench out of my view. We tracked the blood on the other deer for a couple hours. It went all over in the small thicket/old orchard I hit her. .. no blood at impact or hair. Found some drops about 10 yards from poi. Small drops every 15-20 feet. Large blood where she was standing when I was watching her. We went back and forth and then circle and grid searched the whole side of his property. We determined she Mustad have entered the neighboring property we don't have tracking permission for.... And it had been a shooting gallery there all day. My partner was much better then me at the tracking and spotting and definitely showed me some things. He determine did must have hit the shoulder based on blood color and scarcity. I am truly tormented about this. And it has put a huge pall over my first successful harvest.... Hindsight being 20/20 once I had seen the limp I should have shot her again (I could have) to make sure she was down as she stood still for quite a few minutes in the thicket.. Lessons were learned. Please don't rip me up too bad for the 2nd doe. I already know... Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk3 points

Just think if ar's were in place requireing 4 on a side that 6pt might not of been a legal deer... I'd be happy shooting 6pt like that the rest of my.life3 points

I guess I am not keeping up with the latest deer hunting methods, but this is one that I have never heard of before. And actually, I suspect that when using this method it probably is not really all that bad when you don't find any blood.3 points

There is something about being able to pick the particular hair on the deer that I intend to hit that adds an element of confidence. Well that's a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea. I just like the precision. However, I can understand that there are probably a lot of guys who have a lot of experience and confidence in their shotguns. Also, in our case the rifle law is relatively new. It is very possible that a lot of people may have just invested a pile of money in a new shotgun, and they are not willing to turn around and buy some new rifle now as well. My big thing is that I got tired of turning my shoulder into hamburger every time I wanted to do some shooting with my deer gun. I don't like that and now I don't have to put up with it anymore.3 points

If I wasn't using the rifle , I think I would prefer the In-line ML over the shotgun . The ML is more fun to shoot .3 points

Hunting in Churchville (8G), this morning. She came in with a huge doe, but they knew something was wrong, & they were really alert. They were about to bolt, so I took the first chance I had. 15yards. Thankful to have her.3 points

Let me start this out by saying that I have used the same possessor for a few years now and am over all very happy with the work that they do....... I just feel that I can do better! Between me and my buddy we have brought him 3 deer already this year but the next one I will be doing on my own. I have never done it Before but being a trained chef I have broken down Many lamb and veal legs before. How different can it really be. Hang deer skin deer remove back straps and tenderloins. Take of front quarters , take of hind quarters and bone out the neck. The neck is the only part im not so sure about but who cares I will be tying roasts out of it any way. Does anyone have any advice or think I am missing anything. I feel like if I set up a assembly line and have my buddy package and my fiancé us the vacuum sealer we can be done in about two hours.... Does this seem about right ?2 points

Wont go on about it, but here he is. Got him Sunday am about 7:10. One shot and dropped like a brick! 40 yards! Been hunting since I was 18, bow on LI not successful, last 10 seriously in the catskills, but last 4-5 with AR's. 4 points on the left and 3 on the right. Yippie!!!!!2 points

My tikka .308 compact. Used a Woodleigh 165 gr. at about 2600fps. Hit him at the base of the neck and the bullet took out the top of the heart and far shoulder and lodged under the skin on the far side. Bullet weighed 134 grains for 81% weight retention. That's some bullet! I will admit to this. I was aiming at the sweet spot directly behind the leg about 1/3 up on the chest. Keep playing it over in my my mind how I hit about 8 inches higher and forward. He was moving and sped up as I was aiming but I really think I just GOT A BIG CASE OF BUCK FEVER!!! Hope any future shots are more on target. As Tony the Tiger used to say: It was grrrreat!!2 points

State land hunting has become the victim of rumors, old wives tales, and just plain BS in general regarding safety. The word is that state land is all shot out and that all the crazies hunt there (as if privately owned land automatically makes all the hunters there any more safety conscious). It is also assumed that all state land is more over-run by hunters than private land and a decent buck cannot be found there. That story has been sold completely, and people totally have swallowed it. Well all that may be true in some public hunting lands, but where I hunt (8N), I am over on state land being bored to death, feeling kind of lonely listening to some crazy shooting across the road on private land where guys are filling the air with lead. It sounds like they are all clustered around one ravine shooting at each other, and even though it is some of this mystical "private land", you couldn't pay me to walk over there and hunt. Yes, I do remember when it seemed like there was a guy behind every tree over on the state land. And maybe that did pose some kind of potential risk although in all the decades that I have been hunting there, there has never been a single shooting incident. But anyways, we could use a bit more pressure to keep the deer on their feet. But it seems that everyone is absolutely convinced that all state land is a "no-man's land" and those that step foot on it will likely be killed before they get out of the parking lot. Ignorance rules!2 points

I'll be honest, I did a lot of butchering over the years, and frankly, I am just tired of it. I don't see it as a fun project, in fact it really is a pain. So, I am not so poor that I can't pay a little bit to let someone else do it for me. I got a good processor, and have had no complaints in the few years that I have been using him.2 points

Watch a lot of YouTube videos. Especially surrounding removing the hind quarters-as a chef you may be versed in This already but there are some tricky bones to work out that I always F up. 2 hours seems ambitious to me but again I am no chef. I also do it myself(no help) and am super anal about removing all things not meat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

we didn't get a deer but today was a success. we started a stalk as soon as we got to letchworth we spread out and walked 3 wide and had a few deer on their feet right away no opportunity for any shots. while walking back to the van a truck pulls up and said ahh chance you guys lost a buck here this week my buddy said I shit at a nice 8pt with my muzzle loader on Saturday but couldn't find any blood or anything. the guy takes us to the buck it was only a few hundred yards from my buddy's stand a single lung hit there wasn't even any blood where the deer laid. my buddy was happy to recover his deer the meat obviously want any good but it still got a tag wrapped around its antlers.2 points

My gun season ended at 7:15. I barely had enough time to settle in, heard him making a scrap inside some mountain laurel then stepped out onto a trail and made a fateful turn towards me.2 points

I shot him while he was chasing a doe a ridge below me, he dropped on the 2nd shot. He weighed 176 after hanging for 3 days. Not my biggest buck and not the heaviest but I think he is the biggest bodied buck I have killed. I would have loved to seen what he looked like a few weeks ago. Was fortunate enough to take these two opening morning about 5 minutes apart..he came busting in behind me running three does in circles...once I repositioned my rifle he took off downhill after one doe...the second doe wandered behind some tress and headed down hill as well leaving the big girl I was able to take locked up at about 35-40 yards...I let the .30-.06 bark and she dropped within 20 yards after I caught lung-top of heart-lung. So I decided to call my wife and let her know we had a deer down, and low and behold I look down hill and the buck is peaking at me from behind a tree at about 120 yards....I told my wife I had to go and out the phone down, carefully took aim and drilled him with a liver-lung-lung shot quartering away...he was down 40 yards later and my freezer was instantly full!! Great memories and a great opening day spent at camp in 9p. Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk1 point

. I'd rather it be the bad mayo because if it's not it means I have trespassers again . I wonder if they are coming to see i put a new cam out since they stole the last one....... If I see them by that tree I will be flying out of my stand1 point

IN 2009 I switched from using a Rem 870 12 gauge with a rifled barrel & Red dot scope to a CVA Buckhorn .50 caliber muzzleloader with a 3 x 9 scope. First season with a mix of carrying both the 870 and CVA depending on mood. since then the 870 hasn't been shot. (It's a dedicated slug gun that I never change over to a field barrel). When Ontario County allowed Rifles, I stuck with the muzzleloader, even though I have a Rem 700 SPS in .308. My oldest Daughter started hunting last year, and I got her a Mossy 500 20 gauge with a rifled barrel. It's a tack drive and a lot easier on the shoulder then the 12 gauge, so if I ever when back to carrying a slug gun, I would probably go that route. if anything - I'd upgrade to a higher grade muzzleloader, even though the CVA has put a lot of venison on the table.1 point

Nope. No reason to. I don't care if I can only shoot 60 yds, I'll still take a rifle over shotgun any day. In fact I don't deer hunt with a shotgun at all anymore. Rifle or muzzleloader/Ruger Redhawk .44Mag Sent from my XT907 using Tapatalk1 point

100 for me. As long as you aim for mid lungs you'll always get a double lung at anything up to 100 yards. Cant be more then an 1.5" difference. between 100 yards and anything closer.1 point
