  1. Found 3 yesterday so here's my season total. Based on past years and this one I'm beginning to think my eyes just don't pick up the right side for some reason.

  2. I saw this and thought it sums up the SCOTUS judicial appointment perfectly. I couldn't agree more. Jonah Goldberg: "All the Constitution says is that there has to be a Supreme Court. (Even the existence of lower federal courts is entirely optional). There's nothing holy, never mind constitutionally sacrosanct about the number nine. Congress could decide tomorrow to make the Supreme Court a body of 72 people picked randomly from the phonebook (so long as the president was the one doing the random picking and the Congress approved them). When the president, a former teacher of constitutional law, says, 'the Constitution is pretty clear' about the need for hearings on his pick, he's not telling the truth. He's playing politics. The same goes for all the Republican senators who say the Constitution is clear that they don't have to hold hearings if they don't want to. The issue isn't whether the Constitution is clear. The simple fact is that the Constitution is silent. And where the Constitution is silent, politics is supreme. ... We've invested in the Supreme Court powers never imagined by the framers. And when I say 'we' I mostly mean progressives. The growth of the administrative state and the encroachment of federal law into every nook and cranny of local life has been a century-long project of the left. It should be no surprise that when we bequeath monarchical powers to nine — or eight — lawyers, the battle for succession to one of the nine thrones will be ugly. Indeed, it's surprising it's not uglier."

  5. A US citizen? No. (Although requirements for US citizenship have been extremely lax of late.) Someone entering this country from an other country that is known to have views hostile to the US? Yes, absolutely. If an immigrant's 'religion' is fundamentally based on destroying the very concept of this country, that's something we need to keep in mind as they work to gain citizenship. Anyone unwilling to renounce that particular view has no place in our country. We're the greatest nation on this planet, and we need to stay that way.

  8. Attempts to control crime do not control crime. When you ask responsible citizens to surrender rights, especially the right of self defense, without proposing any actual crime prevention, you should expect well deserved push back. And that push back comes from any logical thinking people who do not see it as a good bargain. This is the real reason we keep seeing more and more idiotic demands placed on responsible gun owners.

  12. People are posting less because because most threads end up just like this one did. In an full on font war. Most people in here are guilty of being opinionated at times, almost all of us are sarcastic smart-asses, and loud ( myself included ( we are New Yorkers ) ). That and most of the threads about hunting are flooded out to the bottom so those that just read the top 5 or what's new threads don't see the hunting threads. I do give you an 'A' for effort on that one though. I am not opposed to dove hunting. I signed a couple petitions for it. At the same time, I really wasn't on a side. I just felt as long as it's not endangered who am I to tell someone they can't hunt doves for food? I guess I was always 'neutral' but, was able to 'see both sides'. As for more surveys or debates about lead VS non-lead, they will end up just like this thread. Most people won't bother as they just want to be left alone to hunt with w/e they want to hunt with, so you end up with the same people spewing the same statements over, and over, and over..........and over......... The one thing you get from threads like this, you really see the people who care about hunting as a whole, and the people who only care about certain areas within the sport. That is the sad part.

  15. I'm not hateful, racist, or bigoted (in the way you're using the term). I'm also not misogynistic, xenophobic, homophobic, or paranoid. I'm not religious either, but I do absolutely follow the Golden Rule in the course of day-to-day life. I'm an American and a patriot. I absolutely believe in my country and I believe that we are, in many/most ways, exceptional. My anger stems from the fact that I'm often labeled as all of the above simply because of my patriotism, and the fact that the term "American Patriot" has somehow managed to become a slur and an epithet. My tolerance reached its end when my President started traveling the world to apologize for my country's very existence. I could expand on this if necessary.

  22. Well I have been wanting a "pocket" gun for several years. Problem was the pistols I loved were not really pocket guns and neither is my full frame 9mm. I really liked the Sig P238 but it was just a hair to big but I loved the way it shot. I have fired a Ruger LCP .380 but I hated it the way it shot. I have been looking at the S&W Body Guard and have been hoping to fire one at some point but I never got the chance. After looking at and holding and reading about the Body Guard I pulled the trigger on it yesterday. I am not expecting it to be a great shooter but if is ever needed, it will be better than having nothing. First, I was just going to get the one without the lazer...then while they were doing the paperwork I was afraid I would regret it and asked if they could change it to the one with the lazer which will probably be useless but I didn't want to regret not having it. Just waiting for my amendment in the mail. Should have it next week.

  23. I only have two. They are pretty old compared to what most of you are probably using. But, they still work great so why stop using them. The bottom set I have had since I was 14, it's 30 years old still my go-to. It's an old Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Pro Plus, on a 7' Zebco Rhino stiff action rod. The top was a gift from my mom when I was 21 so that's 23 years old and still catches fish. It's a Quantom Lite Combo. Reel is a Quantom QL50, on a 5' Quantom Lite medium action rod. I still love using these fishing poles. I don't fish from a boat so they are both great for 'fan' casting from shore. Caught my first Walleye on the Abu Garcia, and my first Northern on the Quantom. I can't count bass and even panfish caught on either. When the Abu Garcia was new I even used for bullhead fishing at night because it had ( it's doesn't glow anymore ) a glow in the dark tip.

  24. Hmm, I'll check the stash but since I NEVER even pulled the trigger on that centerfire or any other centerfire rifle on a deer I have a stinking suspicion I have enough. The lead free choice is never a bad choice........ Shawn.......you've shot them in your .243, correct? If so, what speed did you get and how was accuracy? To all you OTHER lug nuts, any changes for this coming Opening Day? TIA...........

  28. I can dial down my slate pretty quiet. My nephew didn't hear me calling and he was 40 feet away. When you need to call quiet , a slate is best IMO. Glass , I have a problem with. When you think you're calling quiet , cut that volume in half. Them birds can hear pretty spectacular. I'd say volume is key in calling.

  30. Im not hateful.. Thats just a B.S. label you put on anyone who disagrees with you. Rather then skip over the political section, like an adult, You have decided to have a little hissy fit and launch your own protest of the political section. Your sad little, hold your breath till you turn blue, protest includes falsely labeling people, because thats all you have. Pathetic

  31. Well brand me "UNFIT", my Grandfather ate meat shot with lead, my Dad ate meat shot with lead, I ate and still do eat meat shot with lead and both of my boys grew up eating meat shot with lead and still do. I would not change one thing and do over everything exactly the same!!!! We have always taken care of our game meat properly, all questionable meat is removed and discarded, none of us were ever sick from lead poisoning nor do I know one single hunter who ate meat shot with lead ever to come down with some sort of lead malady! 43. The reason I asked was because in the early 90's there was a run of stainless PPK's that were full of problems. Failure to feed, failure to eject…..etc… Other than those, the PPK has always been an excellent reliable pistol. I have one (blued) that I bought in 1986. It is the most reliable pistol I have ever owned. Not one single issue after approx. 1500 rounds of all types of ammo.

  44. Doc may be an example of how humans build up a resistance, or even an immunity, to lead if it is consumed in minute quantities over time. Maybe it works like vaccines, where a small amount of a virus will actually keep you from getting the disease. Many people over 50 were exposed to lots of lead in their youth and really haven't shown any verifiable evidence of harm. How do we know Doc is less of a person because of it? How do we know for certain he isn't more of a person because of it? Nobody has ever done any research on that so who knows for certain? Medical science is constantly revising things they were claiming to be absolutely certain of in the past. With all of the things that threaten humans today, from war and terrorism to invasive diseases, a concern about lead ammo is just far down my list of worries.
