Although I held the door for little old ladies (music reference) at Tim Horton's this morning, I did another deed of greater importance later in the morning. I took a ride down to Canadice to retrieve trail cameras and hunt for sheds. I travel Middle Road all the time year round and pick up lots of trash when I have the time. There has been a TV in the ditch that I have been eye balling for 6 months. Some SOB tossed it late last summer IIRC and nobody else picked it up. Granted, it was rolled probably 25-30 feet down the bank and heavy as all get out. Today was the day that I had the time, gloves and right boots on my feet to get r done. Now the Town Of Amherst will get it........they have a drop off at the highway dept. I'll swing by some day this week and pitch it. In the mean time, if anybody wants it, holler. Did I mention it WAS heavy?5 points

Although it was a bit foggy that day, I thought this was an interesting picture I caught on my trail cam.5 points

They definitely are a good looking gun. A neighbor had one in .458 Win Magnum that he let me fire once and the recoil was surprisingly manageable. No doubt it's heavy weight helped a lot with that. If I ever did buy one, that's the caliber I would go with. If you are going to go big, why not go all the way? All of my non-muzzleloading rifles are Rugers now, and my next one will likely be an American in .243 caliber. That will only happen if one or both of my daughters develops an interest in deer hunting over the next few years. They are not quite old enough yet, but they sure like eating venison and it would be great if they would help out a bit with filling the freezer and not just emptying it. I can only dream of that day now however. Until then I will just keep doing what I can with my old M77 30/06.5 points

I've watched my daughter dance for 2 dances for a total of 5.5 minutes and have withstood 12.5 hours watching other ballet. Dad points are thru the roof ! One more day to go.4 points

I've had quite a "trail cam" season since last fall. I got my first real bear video, multiple (including another today) bobcat videos and today...............my first fisher video. I took a screen shot with my phone for upload here since uploading video is painful with my DSL. If I get time later, maybe I'll load the video. Here's what you get now..........3 points

I have 2 M98 actions on the shelf for my last 2 "dream rifles". Action #1 on my shelf: 1939 vintage Oberndorf M98K action. The best of the best when metallurgy, fit & finish are the priorities. 26" barrel chambered in 8X68S turned form a 29" Iranian Mauser barrel (in hand) from the same era. Again the best of the best in that configuration. 1904 Portuguese bottom metal W/a straddle floorplate. (in hand) The magazine box will be lengthened to 3.525" length & widened for the proper 60* stack of the 8X68S cartridges. Topped W/my 3-9X42 Kales scope. Timney Sportsman trigger, Dakota 3-pos M70 wing type safety. Classic "Express rifle" Bastonge Walnut stock W/ebony fore-end tip & grip cap, 1" Pachmayr Decelerator pad. Classic heavy "African plains game" rifle that will be capable of shooting 180gr bullets @ 3250fps, 200gr Hotcores @ 3150fps for medium game & 250gr Weldcores/solids @ 2700fps for anything up to Cape Biuffalo. Action #2 on my shelf: 1910 Mexican Mauser (FN Manufacture) small ring, small thread shank M98 action. Again, the best of the best in that configuration. Bottom metal will have a modified (military) sliding hinge floorplate W/push-button release. 24" barrel in a lightweight contour chambered in 6.5X55 & turned from the #2 contour blank 6.5mm barrel that I already have. Timney Sportsman trigger, Dakota 3-pos M70 wing type safety. Slim Claro walnut Monte Carlo stock W'short fore-end for high scope mounting to allow maximum + or - 3" PBR. Ebony fore-end tip & grip cap, 1" Pachmayr Decelerator pad. Topped off by a Leupold 3-9X33 ultra-light scope. Lightweight Prairie/mountain rifle shooting 129gr Nosler Accubond LR bullets @ 3100fps for + or - 3" PBR out to 325yds & "hold on hair" for medium game out to 400yds. Those 2 will complete the opposite ends of my all metric Mauser rifle battary: 6.5X55 7X57 8X57IS 8mm-06 Ackley Improved 8X68S All good company for Dad's 30/40 Krag, an ideal woods rifle for deer & Black Bear. I saw this and thought it sums up the SCOTUS judicial appointment perfectly. I couldn't agree more. Jonah Goldberg: "All the Constitution says is that there has to be a Supreme Court. (Even the existence of lower federal courts is entirely optional). There's nothing holy, never mind constitutionally sacrosanct about the number nine. Congress could decide tomorrow to make the Supreme Court a body of 72 people picked randomly from the phonebook (so long as the president was the one doing the random picking and the Congress approved them). When the president, a former teacher of constitutional law, says, 'the Constitution is pretty clear' about the need for hearings on his pick, he's not telling the truth. He's playing politics. The same goes for all the Republican senators who say the Constitution is clear that they don't have to hold hearings if they don't want to. The issue isn't whether the Constitution is clear. The simple fact is that the Constitution is silent. And where the Constitution is silent, politics is supreme. ... We've invested in the Supreme Court powers never imagined by the framers. And when I say 'we' I mostly mean progressives. The growth of the administrative state and the encroachment of federal law into every nook and cranny of local life has been a century-long project of the left. It should be no surprise that when we bequeath monarchical powers to nine — or eight — lawyers, the battle for succession to one of the nine thrones will be ugly. Indeed, it's surprising it's not uglier."2 points

I've been eyeing a Ruger No. 1 in 375 h&h for a while now and the itch is becoming unbearable. I have no practical need for one since Africa might not ever be in my budget but it's so damn sexy. Geechee born and Geechee bred2 points

4+ hours for me today. I bet I crawled 250 yards on my hands and knees through some nasty holes, just bucky looking and found beans.............get all done and head over to pull my trail cams. Walk up the dike of my buddies pond to peak at the geese and find THIS..................... Let me tell you, I worked hard for that little bone! Oh well, all fun.2 points

I am an addicted rimfire fan and shooter and at the Syracuse Gun Show a few years ago there was a fellow with some Cooper Rifles. He had a Cooper Bolt Action Western Classic 22 LR that was so pretty it would bring tears to your eyes. That rifle had every custom touch there is to be had on it. The wood grain the best, the checkering the best, case coloured action and matching rings, octagon barrel, skeleton checkered buttplate, inletted sling studs and on and on along with a test target, one hole at fifty yards. I actually have had dreams about that one. Al2 points

A Barret 50 is definitely on the list as one of my next guns. And by next I'm talking within next 10 years. Biggest issue will be finding a range to shoot that large a bore at. You Can't Beat My Meat!2 points

lol. They were mainly for daughter. I had to put down that Reuben. In all actuality they were quite good. Gave us blue cheese and honey mustard though. What's up with honey mustard and wings ?! And I tried to eat every Boston like food I could so far.2 points

LMAO ! Yeah, Willy, I realized my mistake a few minutes after I made the post, but decided that wasn't worth the effort to change it, and probably nobody but some knobby kneed stump jumper named Woody would bother to bring it up... AS LONG AS I AM HERE, sorry Rick.....You probably wish your Momma had named you Bill, right ?.....<<grin>>....2 points

Yes, that call sounds great in Rick's hands. If I was working it it would resemble Rosie O'Donnell's singing....................2 points

A semi automatic rifle, with a detachable magazine, and a pistol grip with a flash suppressor. LOL!! But seriously,, a vintage Winchester model 70 in any classic deer calibre. I had a later production 70 in 7mm-08 that I sold. Still sad over it.2 points

Mike, what does your post have to do with Steve's thread? I mean, other than the intent to derail it by inserting a totally unrelated issue. (Nice choice of issue, btw. High fence / preserve debate would surely be a good way to dilute the thread & distract readers from the info he posted.) That's like someone dropping by one of your precious dove hunting threads & talking about bear baiting. Classy.1 point

No reason to need a 375HH for Africa to have one..... I shoot chucks' with mine and occasionally carry it for deer. (I'll get flamed for saying I shoot red squirrels with it too, good trigger time, just sayin'). Shot a bunch of stuff in Africa too, but that's just a bonus.1 point

Garland has been nominated for a single purpose. He is ideologically opposed to the Heller decision which stated the 2nd Amendment guarantees an individual right to own firearms. That decision prevents the government from going completely to the extreme in it's drive to eliminate and ban all types of civilians arms ownership. Semi-auto firearms, both handgun and long gun, are the objective here. That, however, is just the beginning. All types of registration requirements would follow, as well as other restrictions like storage requirements, ownership limits, possession limits for ammo, permits and permit fees. Legal carry, in any form, would be eliminated. If he is sworn in as a Supreme Court Justice, the 2nd Amendment will no longer be a right of the people, it will be a privilege from the government, granted only to those the government feels can be trusted to follow orders. This is something everyone who owns firearms now, be they hunter, target shooter or collector, should be writing their Senators about today.1 point

Yeah….When you do, find out how many people here agree that Islam needs to be scrubbed from the earth and show some proof that NO Muslims have ever said that they want America to have Sharia Law.. Good luck with that. Hate on!!1 point

The fly rod absorbs a lot of shock, so the fish really can't get an edge on me too easy. It's nice because it gives you a lot of leverage. It also allows you to stand back from the edge and fish smaller holes without showing yourself to the fish.1 point
