  2. I went to greener pastures a couple weeks ago.... IA, 45 sheds, including 7 matched sets. Best year ever. Normally I find 15-20 there. Also, 6 more from OH. Only 1 in NY so far, but I've only been out twice here.

  4. Have I mentioned how much I hate squirrels? Lol. Found this one yesterday. Sadly from last year. No idea how I walked by it until now. 8" circumference between the G3 and G4 where my hand is. G2 would have been an easy 10" with a kicker based on the mass of where it is chewed off. <sigh>

  9. 2 of the 3 dogs are supposed to be trained to find them (I was the trainer.) The youngest one doesn't even want to retrieve consistently, so until I get that straightened out, she's on hold. The big yellow one is a CRP expert. She specializes in pulling out old green antlers out of the deep, matted grass. She has picked up 6 so far this year. The black one has picked up 7 as well, but is more likely to pick up fresher ones. They generally work better alone- otherwise they just want to screw around and chase squirrels and rabbits. As the great Wooly said- most serious shed hunters won't deface an antler they find. I'm still in the hoarding stage and I don't think I'll ever grow out of it. I have no problem cutting deadheads up to make knife handles, but I walk too many miles to find the sheds. (I average somewhere around 7 miles per...) I do intend to make display cases to put them in at some point. For now I just hang them on the wall but they are dust magnets. Here's a set I found this year that gross scores a little over 160" with no spread credit:

  10. What a beautiful day it turned out to be today. Did the brakes and rotors on the 06 Dodge Stratus. Wife had washed and waxed it Thursday. She looks and stops like new now. Then we washed the new ride to make her purty. After the chores, I took the kids and my daughter's boyfriend for some good old fashioned plinking with the .22s. Lastly, we got ice cream at the local shop that opened last week. Great day!! Here are some pics.

  11. I absolutely think that a bowhunter education course should be required to use one.....

  12. So, all crossbow hunters are bozo's? I am sure they will feel good about that assessment. Poaching, it always comes back to that. It doesn't have a pile of beans to do with allowing full inclusion for the crossbow in archery season. Poachers will do what they do no matter the weapon or time of year. What's the real gripe about allowing full inclusion of the crossbow? I was also referring to the hunters ( especially bow hunters ) who complain about other people hunting or hiking on public land. Why not just be honest? Most archery hunters just don't want to share the woods. Read the threads around here. It's pretty evident. I never want to see air guns or muzzle loaders in the bow season, but saying a crossbow isn't welcome is just being selfish. Like I said, some pretend to promote hunting, but on their terms.

  13. That's funny! Most serious shed hunters wouldn't de-face a shed antler find in ANY way! I've gotten over that stage and put 4 new lamps together this weekend, lol Sometimes I can hear them scream when the saw teeth cut into their bones.... it hurts me too, but I try to block that out now! I'd rather see someone else enjoy them instead of watching their color fade and sit in a bunch of covered bins until someone wants to look at them anymore. Quite honestly, they're just taking up too much room in the first place, and secondly I've come to the conclusion that shed hunting is more about "the hunt" for me than it is in collecting them. That's why I take pictures of them all! Nice haul sambone!

  17. Spin it any way you want. The bottom line is not allowing a crossbow in the archery season is just more proof that too many bow hunters have tunnel vision and really don't care about promoting hunting. Enjoy the thread. I really was looking forward to someone explaining the truth about why you are against full inclusion for crossbows. But it's clear, there is no factual base, just opinions and personal choice.

  18. I love traditional archery, & I have a lot of respect for people who hunt that way, until they start to look down on others for their choice of weapon. I don't see anything bad about a crossbow. Just like any other weapon, it's humane as long as you practice & know your limitations. Most of all, I like that it will get more people out there, which is very important, considering our dwindling numbers.

  21. any hoisted up high in trees with fishing line ? My buddy hid a boatload at his house and surrounding woods last year that were stuffed with mini Snickers etc. The next day he learned raccoons were very good at finding hidden chocolate stuffed plastic eggs He opted for dimes , nickels and such this year

  22. I mounted my 6th and final deer from last season yesterday. Now, I just got to keep an eye on him while he dries and then do the finishing work... The pose we were going for... Unfortunately, the original cape starting slipping bad when I first attempted to do the mount a few weeks ago. I had to find a replacement cape that would match the light orangish color of the buck... Also, I remounted my October bow buck last weekend...

  30. If and when the crossbow becomes a piece of archery equipment,a archery course would be mandated. This is something that NYCC has asked for from day one.

  34. Oh for crying out loud! ( Pun INTENDED! ) Is there anything bow hunters will allow in their season? I mean seriously, what's the major argument for not allowing the crossbow during the full archery season? Like people stated, it has limbs, it has a string, you use an arrow ( a bolt is just a fancy way to say really short arrow ), the string is pulled back compressing the limbs, when shot the limbs expand forcing the string forward, hence propelling the arrow. Sounds like a bow to me. As for hunting pressure.............Seriously? What's the difference between 100 people buying a long bow, compound, or a crossbow to hunt in your area? There isn't any! We say we want to promote hunting, but yet, most people who hunt public land think they own it and don't want anyone else in there. I see no reason not to allow full inclusion, even in the areas they left out for now.

  35. We used to really like going at night. Had a couple spots on state land with ponds full of them. Me and a couple buddies would leave Saturday afternoon, make a small camp near one of the ponds and fish most of the night. It was good times. Couple poles in the water a few beers and life was great. They sure made a great breakfast! Not many made it home. LOL I prefer them just pan fried with nothing on them, but I have been known to use cornmeal on them.

  37. Doc , yes I agree and would like to see the seasons split 2 weeks bow, close for 2 weeks , then bow again, close for 5 days amd gun, run for 10 days and close for week reopen for week close 5 days and run muzzloader/ late bow for 10 days. Thus giving deer a chance to calm down aND rest. Especially with the expected increase of harvest during bow due to inclusion of x bow... will never happen but ibwould.like to see it.

  40. Yeah it is cracked around edges and I know once it is inside it will dry faster. Ill keep an eye on it. I've done some smaller ones, birch and black cherry that were thinner and hang on the wall. Amazingly, they never split.

  42. Yes, lets get rid of special seasons altogether, and give hunters complete choice of weapons with no restrictions. That seems to be what everyone wants anyway. The heck with bowhunters and muzzleloader hunters. If they want to use the special weapons, let them all use it during the regular "Anything Goes Season". Eliminate all special privileges and exclusionary seasons and turn the bow season and muzzleloader special seasons over to whoever wants to use it.

  43. Yea, I have a bunch of those odd ball loads that have no more markings. 3" and 3.5", some of each................I have some old black 3.5" Winchester loads that really were lousy in my gun, I probably got them in 2000 when I got the gun. Them, among others would probably be a hoot on clay birds........!!

  44. The markings have worn off many of my turkey loads. All I know much of the time is that they are 12 gauge 3" mag #4 or #6 shot, 1 7/8 oz. or 2 oz. As long as the bird is within good range it doesn't make any difference, unless I MISS, which is nearly always the result of me choking at the last instant and jerking the trigger instead of squeezing it. Come to think of it, that's the same reason I sometimes miss deer, squirrels, aardvarks and various other critters.

  45. they did a pH test... not a soil test. if what your plants need isn't in the soil dosent mater how much lime you put on it. get a complete test done... it will save you a lot of frustration later.Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

  46. Just concentrate on power line for now, before you make any woods plots or Jing cut oe thin woods, learn the property a year or two, learn where pressure come from and where the deer go, it's nice the neighbors don't hunt but people find a way into any woods ,PowerLine old atv trails , had a guy walk the county line a mile to my woods as the piece he entered on wasnt posted..

  47. Yep and both of them are also lethal.... but a xbow and compound stats are much much more comparable in velocity and penetration than a 22 is to a 308Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk
