  1. It's not just shoulder issues that qualify. It could be diabetes, blood pressure, or a host of other things covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act. DEC wants crossbow included in the archery season. This new form is a way around the lame, know nothing, lawmakers, that should have passed full inclusion years ago. Good to see a NY entity, actually do something for hunters and sportsmen.

  2. Double down 10/7 Pm. Male and female. Savage Impulse Predators strike again. .20-250 and .243 I hit the female first and then my buddy dropped the male going through the woods after I stopped recording.

  7. When it comes to maintaining my firearms I do not mess around with fads, I use what is proven and known to be the best. Anyone that wants to use scent free cleaning solvents and maintenance oils can have at it, it is a free country last I knew. My wife washes my clothes with whatever and the wool gets dry cleaned and all are saturated in permethrin. I know for a fact that you can not defeat a Deer's sense of smell so I use the terrain and watch the wind, never have a problem finding and killing a Deer if I want one but I am just a meat hunter. 8. Playing the wind is #1 of course, it's a no brainer and is taken into consideration always which is why I have 12 tree stands set up for different wind directions. Keeping our scent to a minimum is a LOT of work. During bow season I have maybe 4 days a year where I sit all day and want to give it everything I got, so I take several steps to keep odor to a minimum. Scent elimination spray on all gear, shower with scent removal soap, brush teeth with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. Scentlok clothing helps too and for a couple hundred bucks (buy when it's on sale) one can take another step to minimize human odor. That's just me. Deer need to be close during bow season. I know I can't totally eliminate my odor but I'm smart enough to know that with a lot of work I can keep it to a minimum.

  10. I spray everything down with Permethrin once before the season and after the daily hunt I hang whatever in the shed , probably spray down again mid season !

  11. No matter how scent free my clothing can be my firearms scent would negate any effort, the chemicals used to maintain them like Hoppes, Ballistol, Frog Lube, etc. all stink to high Heaven. Al

  12. I wear whatever is hanging on the hooks down in my basement and is appropriate for the weather for the day. I have not been obsessive about scent other than wind direction compared with how I expect the deer to come into range. The best defense involving scent is to try to make sure that your scent never gets to the trail, by paying very close attention to wind direction, including thermals.

  13. I have a large metal double door of what one would call a wardrobe that I keep in my shop building, most of my hunting clothes are hung inside that wardrobe. I do not do anything special for odor as I firmly believe a deer's nose can not be defeated. I regularly spray down everything with permethrin, after contracting Lyme disease I am paranoid. I also favor wearing a lot of wool hunting clothes and the permethrin seems to keep away any moths just as good as mothballs and does not have the strong after odor. Al

  16. I messed up because I checked the box “ temporary “ But they said if it turn into permanent they can reissue next year maybe by then they will open it for everyone . I wish they would give me a permit to use rifle during bow I still have a hard time pulling back the crossbow plus I could get out before it gets real cold .. I’m getting soft in my old age the Dr tells me this is a rotor cuff impingement .. I’m icing it and doing the exercises but I don’t see any improvement they want me to take meloxicam but I’m reading the side effects and it doesn’t sound good

  17. Just became a seasoned hunter! Lol

  18. Nope … it’s for people with an injury that can’t pull back a bow , the permit says right on it “ for use with an UNmodified crossbow to be used during regular bow I applied for mine online and received it in less than an hour Mine is temporary unless my shoulder doesn’t heal, then can be made permanent Maybe there is one for cases like you described too ???

  19. Today was the first of 2 special waterfowl hunt days for veterans and active duty military personnel in the Western zone. My son and his Supervisor are both Army veterans and went out this morning. I went along to video the hunt and handle my son's dog Gunner. They both had a great hunt and limited out. Another day to remember.

  22. Quiet morning so far. We are setup in a transition area between heavy bedding and a corn field near a spot that I know they cross a creek. We shall see what happens. Good luck to anyone else that’s out!

  25. @First-light, good for your niece. It’s probably harder on her than it will be on him, but too many parents nowadays let their kids run amuck and that’s the problem. Congratulate her from me ! I did the same a few times to both my kids, they’re both responsible young adults

  26. I hope that this will open the door for full inclusion, to all who choose to use crossbow in archery season.

  27. Why would they want to limit the age to 60 and older? Implement the purchase of a Crossbow tag, for all.

  28. Haven't heard anything about this as of yet. Seems to me they are moving towards full inclusion for all eventually, but like everything the government does, they do it incrementally, so it becomes less intolerable to the opposition over time.
