lol Good one! As miserable the deal was, I only have myself to blame. I let my guard down. She never texts me while I'm hunting, so as soon as I saw the text was not an emergency I should have just ignored it or texted "not now". Instead, the excitement of my kids and grandson coming got me off my A game and I got too chatty. I basically quit hunting to start talking. Knowing full well a deer could pop up at any moment I should have kept my eyes fixed on what I was there for, and checking my scope for fogging. I guarantee I will not let that happen again. At least this season! hahaha With all the hard work my wife always puts into making Thanksgiving and the holidays nice for everyone, with all the baking, cooking, decorating, etc., and with our 44th anniversary this December, this one buck isn't about to be a deal breaker. As a matter of fact, I wouldn't trade her for all the deer in the woods.4 points

Big tree got blown over yesterday down the road from me, fell on the power lines and snapped off a pole at 6.23 PM knocking out the electric power, just came back on at 5.30 PM, off about 23 hours. Had the generator fired up so things operated half way normal around here but it screwed up my routine, there was no hunting today. Hope to get out early in the morning for a quick hunt, having family over in the afternoon for Thanksgiving. Al2 points

Emphasis on the Empire State: Every people gets the government they deserve, and New Yorkers — who had a chance last year to oust their Big Government leftist governor, Kathy Hochul, for a popular and highly regarded small government conservative, Lee Zeldin — are getting theirs good and hard. As the New York Post reports, "New York once again has the dubious distinction of being labeled 'the least free state' in America, according to a report issued by libertarian-leaning think tank The Cato Institute. The Empire State ranked dead last — 50th — for policies impacting economic, social and personal freedoms in 2022, the report claims." In contrast, the Free State of Florida ranked second in the report, perhaps fittingly behind only the "Live Free or Die" state of New Hampshire as the most free state in the union. "It is little wonder," said the report's authors, "that New Yorkers are fleeing the state in droves. New Yorkers have been voting with their feet for years." And who can blame them? Makes me wonder if the election was legitimate.1 point

With the decades long exodus, New York should have as it's motto, "Live Free or Fly".1 point

Happy Thanksgiving to you all from 7M. With the company here, I was kept up until midnight. Although I was running 1/2 hour behind, and tired this morning, I still made it to the ladder stand I had planned to use. I heard several far off shots but nothing close, and I saw zero deer. Came back to the house at 10 to visit with the family and enjoy the day. I may grab the last hour tonight in the stand I saw the bucks yesterday. To those who scored deer today, congratulations! The first 40 yrs of my hunting life there were no smart phones and I got along hunting just fine without one. Now I did buy one a few years back and it sits on my desk at home, I don't carry it around with me and I don't think I have used it more than a half dozen times, I use a regular cordless phone when making a phone call. To each their own but when I am hunting I want zero distractions and the way I see it those phones are one of todays life's all around biggest distractions. People just can't seem to put them down, they are addicted and I just do not get it, I have better things to do. Al1 point

I’d be fuming too . Sorry to read this New York Hillbilly. I learned that lesson a couple of years ago when a gobbler came in silent when I was on my phone. Learned that lesson the hard way.1 point

Oh yeah….. I can still remember the clippity clop of the horse drawn carriage during the funeral procession. I remember little John John saluting. Not sure if color tv was available at that time but we only had black and white.1 point

From 7m. At 9:30 I had the little spike at 50 yards in the wide open and broadside. His spikes would be lucky to hit three inches. I’m surprised he is the only deer I’ve seen this morning. As nice as it is right now and following that storm yesterday they should be moving like crazy. Would love to sit all day but honey do list still has items with the kids coming later today. For those who are out and can stay out, today feels like a good one.1 point

A friend of my son had asked him if we would take him deer hunting some day. His friend Danny had never been deer hunting and wanted to get a deer. We took Danny out this morning with us. It was his first time deer hunting and my son put him in a 2 man ground blind with him to teach him. In the first hour Danny was able to bag a big doe. The joy and exhilaration Danny displayed was priceless. My son taught him how to field dress a deer and we helped drag her out. Take a new hunter hunting with you when you can. We couldn't be happier for him.1 point
