  5. Here are some of the pictures that show the diversity of my hunting grounds from the swamps and thickets of the valley to the open Hardwoods of the hill. No farms or agriculture of any sort. Challenges?.....yes. But a good variety of habitat that has something for every critter. So, what does your hunting turf look like?

  7. Well it has been a few years since I actually posted on here. I just finished a seminar on deer hunting for new hunters at our archery club. Sad as I handed out multiple flyers to all the bow/gun shops in the area and try to spread the word. Even after handing out over 150 flyers only about 20 people showed up. So sad to see so few showing interest in hunting. Good news is the few people who came to the event seemed very happy about what we taught. Just wish we could get more interest! We lost some good people over the last few years in our camp and did not make it up last year to the big woods of the Adirondacks. Previous year (2021) was a disaster to say the least! Trying to keep the camp life going and we are planning on going up again to Moose River Plains as we typically do and see if I can get one of them into a deer this year! Hopeing I can get one of my hunting partners to shoot the venison this year on Long Island before we hear up. Re-introduction: I posted on here for years and really enjoyed the people and conversations. I started in 1988 in the catskills and then progressed to the big woods of the ADK. I started bow in 2000 and picked it back up in 2010. I typically only hunt public land on Long Island and really enjoy the chase and learning. I have hunted western NY, Catskills mainly Roscoe and Prattsville but hit many other areas as well. We hunted Long Lake, Indian Lake, Tupper Lake, Lake Pleaseant and many area's in between. We now typically go to Moose River Plains and setup a wall tent for the week and sometimes I stay for an additional week, usually solo. Hope everyone is doing well and happy to be back! Looking forward to another season and all the crazy post we love to talk about!

  9. I grabbed 3 True fire buckle releases, new in the package, on a flea market, few years back. He wanted 25 a piece. I give him 65 for all three. Pay that for one nowadays. He offered me another, but in Velcro for 10. snatched up that one too for a backup. Prefer the buckle, but hey. Coated with Need foot oil on the back side. Stored in the dark, when the grandchildren are ready. They all have length adjustment.

  10. Dan, I was about to start a similar thread but I had in my mind that there was one already up and posted that I had seen long ago. I kept going back searching and finally found it so I brought it back to life, it is a good thread. I hope to add the 6.5 PRC to the list this year. Al

  12. I used to try to keep up with the Jones's for years.....especially when I was into tournament field archery. I have expensive bows hanging all over the walls downstairs and drawers full of all kinds of gadgets and go-fasters. Then I remembered that the bow that I took most of my deer with was an old bear whitetail. What a nasty old bow, with limbs you could use as crowbars and more cables and pulleys than you could count. It was a super slow thing that shot the arrows no faster than my old recurves. But it was just as accurate as the fancy bows that now hang on the walls. And it killed deer just as dead. All of this occurred to me in 1999 after I bought that fancy MQ-32, and I haven't bought a bow or arrow since. I suppose that if I had stayed in tournament shooting, I would still be adding bows to the wall......lol.
