This logic is crazy. Funny how after they follow the DEC's recommendation of shooting doe to help habitat or better age structure, etc. Then they wonder why they do not see any deer on the property that had an abundance. Shoot doe to keep the population in check but do not shoot all of them!!! Unless you just don't want them around.

It's hard to get a trophy in NY but not impossible. If you look at www.nyantler.com or www.adkhunter.com you will see a bunch of trophies. We might not have the mass on the antlers due to soil quality and do not have a high population of mature buck but we do have them. They are like ghost and if you ever get one or have hunted a deer that's 4 years old you know how stealthy and adept at avoiding danger they can be, it is the reason they survive and usually die of old age. I have 3 trophies all from the ADK but only one would be considered a trophy by most standards. I would not trade any of my ADK bucks for any other deer. Trophy is in the eyes of the shooter, make every time you shoot a trophy and you will never be disappointed. Or you can take G-mans advice and save up for a hunt. I agree G-man it was not broken before but this is what hunters have asked for, a better balanced herd with more mature bucks. So they can sit on the porch and shoot their trophy.

LOL quote of the year! That was toooo funny!

My first shot on a small doe was high. Found a few droplets of blood to about 45 yards that was it. Scoured the area out to about half a mile, nothing. The shot was not rushed and she did not jump I just underestimated her size and distance. This shot was in the area of debate and she appeared to be ok. I am a believer in this area of little to no impact. I wont call it a void but their does seem to be a spot in this area that shots can pass though with little effect on the animals health.

I understand your point Growalot and you know what if it was my back yard I might have done the same thing this guy did and scared it away. The video is short and does not show a kill or blood. I doubt that deer survived, it probably had something wrong with it that made this bears predatory instinct kick in. Do males go after people, yes apparently some rare occasions it happens. So do deer, cows, horses, snakes and sharks, we forget we are in the food chain for some species. When we attach the human aspect to Mother Nature we say it is cruel. But that bear felt no pity or remorse just a need for food. At the very minimum I would have called the DEC to put down the deer. More than likely I would have dragged what was left of the deer back into the woods for the bear to finish with a new trail cam over it. Sorrow for the deer, yes. Would this be a horrible scene to watch, I am sure. But what a scene of nature. I would have interfered enough by putting up that fence. The bear lived here before I did. If you don't like bears in your back yard killing deer then move because it just happened. Sarcasm at its best. Now while deep woods hunting I get to think about those articles, thanks Grow! LOL Solo camping in bear country, hope those males are full! Its not the hunting part I worry about its when I am sleeping alone in my sturdy bear proof pop-up tent, arg. "What was that noise!"

Agreed that it would probably be illegal in that area to shoot the bear. This has already happened to me in Roscoe. We let the bear eat the doe who had a bad shoulder because he got to her before any of us hunters could. This is nature, it is cruel and merciless. Something most who are not familiar with the woods frown upon because they really have no clue on the circle of life. Two day feast for that bear with nothing but fur left. (We had strict orders from the land owner to harvest this doe due to her bad shoulder but the bear was hungry and ran her down first.) Inhumane, cruel, blood thirsty, and killers are some of the words activists use to describe hunters, yet these are the same people who think the same of this bear. Life and nature can be awe inspiring and beautiful but get lost in these remote woods and you will find how cruel, harsh and insensitive mother nature can really be. Part of the circle of life is survival of the fittest, most people who are not familiar with nature except the "nature walks" they go on forget this fact. But they love to protest us hunters! Mother nature is insensitive, cruel and harsh, she shows not pity or remorse. She will take one doe with a bear or thousands with a tsunami. Inhumane: not humane; lacking humanity, kindness, compassion, etc. This is a term people use when they see something in nature they do not like or understand and love to tag hunters with it. Usually because they DO NOT understand. They also want to forget the fact that they are here because there four fathers where hunters. The same cruel and inhumane people they protest today are just like their great grandparents where but they will ignore this fact. Preaching to the choir I know but I was bored, lol.

Looks like a trophy catch. Nothing wrong with being happy about finding a killer! Happy they finally got him! Sure many others are too!

I tend to like any fall patterns but try to shy away from whites as I am usually on the ground. As long as it is camo I am not concerned. Some things do catch my eye, especially in pictures. The way I look at it is if I can pick something out so can the deer! Not really true but confidence in my camo helps my confidence. The fist 2 pictures show how well my buddy Shawn's camo pattern works. (But I don't like the hat.) I believe I was using realtree type but it was soaked and made it look much darker than normal. The 3rd picture shows my buddy Anthony(RS) in a camo I would only use up in a tree stand. Something about it shines to me. 4th picture is my favorite snow camo. Amazing how you can really disappear if you match the area.

Besides the other benefits mentioned I have found the two blade seem to match my field tip accuracy with little to no change needed most times.

Even though it is illegal you would never know. It sounds like a war zone at night. Last 4th a few parties had fireworks and one had mortars, the big ones. I would not mind if it was legal, everyone basically that wants fireworks gets them. And lighting them off is fun! People should have consideration and wait for the 4th and clean up after themselves. Even with the houses close to each other people light off all kinds of rockets and mortars. Shooting a jumping jack up in the air with a wrist rocket was fun! So was lighting a gross of bottle rockets or a mat of firecrackers. O YEA! Stopped all that at about the age of 16 when girls took over. Dam that was fun!
