Welcome aboard, great to have you. Gutting is the easy part. That is why so many point to videos, it really is not that hard and a good hunter can walk you though it on the phone. Don't be afraid to hunt a new area it is part of exploring!!! And sometimes that is the best part of hunting!

What side are they on, mandatory or voluntary?

Rage are awesome. Only issue I think can affect them is if you use the quick spin fletchings. We had a user here last year that had a problem with the blades braking off. Otherwise they are great and make a really large hole. Good luck.

If you bow hunt check out NImham preserve. Some good spots to hunt in the area, this is just one location I have hunted. http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/34773.html

I think young ones have ADD but older doe in the 2 plus range start to get smart and do remember, check and teach. That is why those are the deer you need to target. They tend to know all your spots after a while and peg you every time. I never targeted doe until one kept on busting me, it kind of made me mad. 3 years later I hunted the same location in cover and she busted me hard core from about 7 yards away and taught the daughter about me, lol. Lost access to the area as the property was sold.

At 5 yards I have to use my 40 yard pin. I agree with Moog5050 you shot low. Hard to tell with different set ups and bow but at short range like that is a higher pin. Next time aim higher or wait for the 10 yard shot it happens when in the heat of the moment, not compensating for the shot, I have done it too often! Test your bow at 5 yards and see where you need to aim as a test. It will help with close shots like that one and you will know where to aim. Keep at it you will get em!

I was going to reply but most of it was covered. Get in that locations ASAP and get him as he might change his pattern with pre rut approaching. Like stated play the wind. Good luck, hope you get him!

You need to brush it in more. Take wire ties and cut down a bunch of pine branches and basically cover yourself up to your waist so the only thing deer can see is above your waist, it will help. Make sure you brush in under the feet stand area real good it helps when deer are close and allows for more movement. Good luck.

Opening day success was never so sweet for a young hunter! 3 months into his first season of archery and hunting on his first day out he connects from my stand! Was passing those spike bucks last year worth it, hell yea! Now this young hunter is hooked and hopefully will have many more years of success! The smile says it all! Congratulations John!

Vegas Shooting
NFA-ADK replied to Five Seasons's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Crazy, get ready for another round of safety laws. RIP and prayers to the family of this horrible act . This was one sick individual. -
I think 2 months before was the latest. Hopefully it will teach them that practice makes perfect and they will start shooting more not sure what else to say on that one. Crazy.

Waiting for the clothes to dry out from spraying, retested broadheads yesterday and did minor adjustments to string for proper cam alignment. (Thanks Wa at Suffolk Archers!) Have to get some food and batteries and I am all set. Need to clean binoculars new roll of TP, calls, rope flashlights extra release and I am set. Going to hunt from a ghost blind tomorrow, hope the wind stays steady. Now I just need some extra sleep, yea right! Shoot straight and good luck!

Great video again, good luck this year!

I would hunt on the main entry or exit point on one of the mast trees in a stand. You get too close and you might blow the area. As the season goes on you can adjust the stand location if needed and penetrate more if that does not work .

Goodalot luck Grow it looks like you should get some good action.

Be careful in areas with bait, if you are caught hunting near any bait location DEC will fine you for it even if its not yours! Best bet is to report it so they know its not you putting it out. Old Forge is one of the few places where deer hunting is not allowed in the ADK, for many years deer where fed in the area.

That is tough! He will be ok, he is strong. Just think how happy he and you will be when he gets home!

I would be willing to help on LI also. I love a good or should I say hard tracking job.
-
I think it really depends on the area. On LI the prevailing winds can put your scent away from the direction you are hunting if set up properly. Plus LI is flat. Due to LI sound and the primarily dominant NW winds it is usually predictable. Not the same as hunting high mountains or hills or even high canopy in some area's next to open fields or valleys like Doc explained. I guess it really depends on your terrain more than anything.
-
Welcome aboard and glad to have you! I also bow hunt LI. and I am out almost every weekend except for stead rain or house work or the ADK trip. Best of luck to you this season be safe and I hope you get the big one!

Try focusing on a very specific spot when shooting like a small dot or piece of hair. The saying aim small miss small was never so right. When I shoot at a target that is 4-5 inches wide I don't focus as much. Also remember where your pin was when you released. If it hits where the pin was it is your aiming that is slightly off, like The_Real_TClll said sometimes focusing on a very small spot will help your grouping. .
