  1. Most guys at the range use them, I am still old school and use 5 pins. 32,42,52,62,72. It makes it so you don't get a haze when shooting into the sun light and keep the same picture with no pins blocking the target. Having the same sight picture every time with no compensations needed. Eventually I will get one. Tough to compete against them but I do ok.
  2. Happy Fathers day! Hope all you Dads have a great day full of fun and family! Enjoy!
  3. Unethical to use calls, scents, hunt from a tree, use anything but a spear or bare hands is also no good. No camo, no guns, no unscented clothes? Is this still a hunting forum or am I in the twilight zone? Some of the comments are really funny on a hunting forum. No HF or guided hunt, no blinds etc. We could go on and on. Wish it was just sarcasm! Urban hunting: Try stalking on less than 1 acre or even hiding on these properties with little to no vegetation or trees, not going to happen. Put up a blind and the deer will avoid the area for a long time. Your scent alone would give you up. You want a real challenge? If that is your game? Come to the ADK park with a bare bow and I will guarantee you will be challenged just to see any deer while hunting. (Deep woods) Personally I have learned over the years that not everything is as black and white as we think it is. Why not let the guy who has the money do a HF hunt? After not seeing a deer for over 20 straight years of hunting you might do the same thing if you had and extra 10,000 to throw at a buck! To some that is like us spending 10$ at a store. No bid deal but the buck they get will be a huge deal for them! Simply put not everybody has the same access to good hunting land, the willingness and ability to actually make themselves a better hunter and could care less about ethics or what weapon they use to kill. (They work hard and have little time to become a good hunter.) They just want a buck! For many of us with good land access, knowledge of deer patterns and experience this is a simple task to get any deer but the average Joe with no help little experience can go many years with no sightings at all. Personally I just love being in the woods and chasing deer, challenge I want but not such a challenge that a good shot is not possible past 15 yards.
  4. Here on the island last night was not the best sleeping weather. Tonight should be much better! Any worse than last night and the AC unit gets installed. Fan kept me cool enough till 5 am when the thunder storms rolled in.
  5. WNYBuckHunter what models do you prefer? Battery life? How long can you keep them out with it on video vs still pics. Are they limited on how large an SD card can be used? Do you use standard batteries or energizer, rechargeable, or other?
  6. Games for shooting. Bottle caps, make a smiley face in the target (Bench), jumping any foam or plastic container off the burm. (Anything high on the burm if off limits!) One shot is fine but jumping the target is the goal with multiple shots in the shortest time. Shooting the pins that hold the target onto the backstop. Pick any target off the burm and take it out. Print out a dart board and play the game. (Fun 22 game.) (Smaller the target the harder it is!) How many shots can you put in the bull 10 rounds bench, 10 off hand. Smaller bull for bench about 2-3 inch standing 50 yards. Deer target, one between the eyes and then take out both eyes, you loose if you miss any of the 3 shots. Cards, take out the number on the card or pick a symbol to take out, place the card side ways and shoot it in half. Long distance put clays on the backstop and take them out off hand. All good fun and keeps it much more interesting than just shooting paper. Be safe and make sure of your backstop!
  7. Drives me nuts when I help zero in friends guns for hunting season and they still wont leave the bench rest. I try to explain how important off hand shooting is especially when the moment of truth is only a small window that could be as short as a few seconds. When I ask if they will bring the bench with them the reaction is funny. I use to shoot often till they closed the local range in town down and then ammo cost went crazy as I don't reload. Past 7 years I have been back on the bow kick and shoot often when my body allows. Now I just need to get glasses! Arg! Good news is that might help me see more deer, lol. Great excuse and I am sticking to it!
  8. That is funny. I typically am solo at the range. That's some good compensation for those distances. Nice shooting! Would have love to seen his expression!
  9. WNYBuckHunter: Does it make any noise? That is one of my big issues with cams besides the deer picking up on them at night time when set to low. The IR seems better but that still seems a bit sketchy on some cams. They have improved and this might be the year I start testing but some of the post with the issue they have give me reservation. I think I need a new post about what cams we prefer and why, also what cams work best at night with NO noise! Battery life, longevity of product and how large of an memory card is needed to capture video for a month or 2 etc.
  10. I have one with cats eyes, lol, looks really funky to me. Looks great!
  11. October 1st! lol I would love to use the cams but would get kicked out after I posted the pics! Personally I do not like the noise and how alert bucks can become to them when not done properly so I have been waiting for better ones to come out, still not impressed with them. Eventually I will brake down and use them once I find ones I really like. Only scouting I have done over the years is with the bow when they use to have Sep 27-30 open (Northern Zone) to use last years tags, with that change I no longer scout with the bow and use that time to hunt Long Island. I think its more fun to see the deer for the first time when hunting vs on my computer, plus if I found a brute I would probably stick to one property like my buddy did last year and not have as much fun chasing them! We hunted one property for 3 months and it got real boring after a while. So much for setting up 20+ stands on multiple properties, we used 4 on one lot for the season! I won't get stuck in that rut again, lol.
  12. WoW very nice! Just in time for the 4th!
  13. This is a great deal for anyone looking for a great bow! Bump!
  14. I never hunted that location, do you need an access permit to hunt the land? I might be interested. What does the population look like, good sign?
  15. WOW! That is really cool!
  16. Best of luck to him and his team, should be a great time with memories to last a lifetime!
  17. Yea I read what Steve D. Posted and thought "50% !!!" Like I said hope we never need it. Against a few rockets we would have a chance but if all out war happened we would be in trouble if only 5% hit.
  18. Hope we never need it!!! Probably a faster payload to hit the target with no bomb in it. Two object at that speed will impact enough to demo both, if it hits!
  19. As the fawn are born the mother doe tend to kick out the yearlings. Add to that the fawns who are just getting their legs under them. My buddy saw 10 in the Hamptons this weekend. Dispersal causes many deer to be killed as they try and find a new home range. With all the extra traffic from the long weekend and dispersal at the same time that adds up to many fallen deer.
