  1. Sorry this was in my backyard a reliable source has told me the DEC. is stocking them.
  2. Look guy there’s only about 10 or 15% of bow hunters that think that way; most of us hunt bow, gun and muzzle loader. To the guy that thinks bow hunting is the purest form of hunting because it’s the way the Indians did “come on!!” Unless you use a longbow with a gut string nap your own heads out of flint make your own wooden arrows track and stalk the deer you are going to kill then you are hunting nothing like the Indians did. You use the best equipment you can buy and sit 20 feet in a tree. Just like I do. so don’t make yourself out to be better than the guy at the start of this thread.
  3. If you are a duck hunter you should attend the FINGER LAKES AND WESTERN NEW YORK WATERFOWL ASSOCIATION meeting at the DEC in Avon on 4/13 at 10am. this issue along with season setting input will be discussed, there will be members of the western zone task force there as well as the DEC. The meeting is open to the public.
  4. Hey anyone read the new deer & deer hunting there is a good article on this subject in there also there is one in bow hunter along the same line. I don’t believe deer farming is good for deer hunting or the deer.

    Martin bows

I shoot a martin cougar III and love it shoots as good as any Mathews for 1/2 the price I've a shot mess a of 300's with it
  6. Just keep it simple it's more important to catch fish then size.
  7. If you you are going to hunt mostly small game I would use a rim fire a 220 will blow up a rabbit all you end up with are teeth and ___holes. If you are going to hunt mostly varmints then a 220 is fine. I would also look at a 22-250 or a 223 only because ammo is a little easier to fine.
  8. Hey guys the dead ducks probably didn't starve to death it was more likely avian botulism its has happen before around both lakes in the winter. They will do testing to find out for sure.
  9. I have gotten some trail cam pic's where I hunt near swain. Seen one down there and while bass fishing on hemlock lake it was working the shore line. They pretty cool to see the one by hemlock was brown the one by swain was back.
  10. Creek side was great also the original American sportsman on maple street in Rochester.
  11. What's the big deal killing any male turkeys dose not effect the population one bit. If anything killing a smaller bird would help the population genetically more so then killing the biggest and best birds.
  12. I don't think there is any state that has a 6” beard rule. You could never be sure if the beard was 6”s or 5 7/8 of inch till you shot it.
  13. I have 2 xp-100's one in 35 rem and the other is 6mm-br and have killed deer with both of them but I prefer using one of my 44mag's I have killed 11 deer between the two of them. Anything from the 357mag up to 50 sw in a handgun can be used for deer. The 44mag. Is a very good round for deer. Weather you chose a standard handgun or rifle cartridge, you have to be able to shoot it no else. All of us here telling you what we think is the best handgun round for deer all have different skill levels. We wont have to shoot your gun, you will. Now I'll tell you what the best handgun and round for deer is THE ONE YOU SHOOT THE BEST
  14. The so called rifling on a rifled slug is to make it easier for the slug to go though different size chokes a long with the hollow base. The rifling put little to no spin on the slug. What stabilizes the slug is its weight forward design most of the weight is up front. You can shoot rifled slug though a rifled barrel Brenneke makes some slugs like there Black Magic and there Green Lighting. You can also shoot Remington or Winchesters the worst that's going to happen is you're going to have to spend a lot of time with a wire brush and hoppes to clean the lead out of the barrel.
  15. I'm looking at NC or Tenn. taxes on a house the same size or bigger then the one I have now range between 600 to 1200 instead of over 4200
  16. If you are only hunting NY and you can only afford 1 gun I would go with a 12ga shotgun with 2 barrels 1 deer barrel and 1 bird barrel then you can hunt both big and small game. If your only looking for a deer rifle and not planning to hunt anything bigger then deer or black bear I would look at any of the lever guns if you're looking at a bolt gun then I would go with one in 7-08 or 308 if you're going to hunt anything bigger I would go with a bigger gun.
  17. First there not your deer. I hate when someone uses the word my when talking about deer they don’t belong to you unless you have them penned up like cattle. As long as there is 15ins or less of snow pack on the ground and the habitat is good they will be fine. If there is more than 15ins of snow pack they have about 3 weeks before they start getting in trouble. If the habitat is crap then they were in trouble before winter even started.
  18. If all the 3.2 million go's to just the 19 people they “need” to run the SAFE ACT it comes to $168421.05 per person in pay and benefits. That's a good gig I wonder who you have to know to get that job.
  19. 7-08 or 260rem the only down side to the 260 is it may be harder to find ammo
  20. One reason the 308 is hotter then mil. Spec. 308 is mil.spec. brass has less volume it is a little thicker.
  21. Sorry made a mistake 7.62 x 63 is 30-06 and 7.62x51 is 308
  22. 7.62 x59 is 30-06 7.62x51 is 308 why an I getting a line though this
  23. I went though everything that was on the super sportsman license to see how much I will save on licenses though the new structure and I save 1 dollar!!!!
  24. I use a 22-hornet works fine I keep my shots to 100yds or less most shots are 50yds or less anyways. When I buy ammo I use hornady 35gr v-max at about 3100 fps you can get them at beikirchs. The 35gr. Work fine have never lost any. When I reload I use a 40gr v-max at about 2900fps with 11.8grs of h-110 just a little more mass. I do have a 22-250 700bdl varmint spl. and that works great but its heavy and if you get a shot at a fox it tears them up bad. I look at it dead is dead and you can't make them any deader.
