i'll be in the fly zone the week of Christmas. i love the winter chromers.

I dont have any antifreeze, sponges, or sausage casing laying around, but i do have a semi auto shotgun and a box of M80's. I doubt the M-80's are legal in the communist state of ny though. I'll probably handle this after this weekend, going to try and get my wife a deer with her muzzleloader. But i'm gonna head down Christmas week and have at them.

#5 all the time i really enjoy deer hunting 12 moths a year even the days the deer/weather/other hunters/coyotes don't cooperate. .. #3 for bow and something like #2 during gun season, as long as im not on property i bowhunt on

I let a buddy hunt my property yesterday, he's deerless for the year and had the day off. He called today and reported no deer sightings, but he did find what he said was an active coyote den near the property line. I didn't think coyotes used den's at this time of year, but to be honest im not really sure. I'm inclined to go out there and start shooting them this weekend, but dont know if its worth the drive down. Anyone else ever come across a den this time of year? will it be like fish in a barrel shooting or what?

Im in the same boat. My life is only 5'1. I've been looking at a H&R single shot in .243 They have a combo for under 300 and a youth model with a shorter stock that i think would fit nicely. Let me know what you end up with

My reluctance to shoot anything other than a mature buck is directly proportionate to how far i have to drag it. I shoot most of my doe during bow out of a stand that's 100 yards from where i park. Once im into bow rut stands 1/2 mile-2 miles into the woods or still hunting gun season i usually will let them walk

WNY nailed it.. I hunt food/bedding/travel routes through bow season, but once gun starts we switch over to escape route stands for opening day and usually clean up. After opening day of gun i still hunt the rest of the year, and put our rookies or the old guys on the escape routes.

Whats right or wrong is up to you bud. Hunting for me has always been a very personal pursuit, im constantly competing against myself, and only myself. I take more and bigger deer than most of the people i hunt with regularly, but on the other hand i know guys that trake bucks that make mine look like babies. For me its really always been about what makes me happy to shoot. Recently, i've been working on targeting only mature deer and letting smaller bucks walk, but just a few years ago, with a broken ankle i was happier than hell that i managed to get a doe (couldnt go more than 100 yards or so from a road). To each his own.

Welcome aboard. We have land in 7M that we hunt most of the season. where abouts are you guys in 7m?

Alot of times those nocturnal bucks will start to move again late season during midday. Have you considered sleeping in and getting in the stand around 10?
