  1. Your the man!! Still waiting to actually see yet hear one come in!!
  2. Like you Water Rat, I ended up calling in jakes as well last week. That's the only turkeys I have actually seen so far!!! NO hens or Toms!!
  3. Best of luck this morning TF!!! After two mornings in a row, and a lack of anything happening, decided to sleep in today. Doctor's appointment, and stuff to do around the house made it easy to sleep in and charge the batteries back up.
  4. TF, yes, I have a Cabela's chair along with a foam pad, but still get sore butt after sitting for almost 6 hrs.!!!! Like you, I am bewildered as well. Most of these spots I go to are my honey holes, and have taken numerous birds before. Think either the birds are henned up, or the gobbler's have already been shot out? Tuff season so far
  5. WTG!!! Glad to see somebody having some action!!
  6. Just got back home after hitting the woods early. I tried going to 2 other spots that I knew about, problem was there were already vehicles parked there!!! Went back to the same woods I was at yesterday, finally heard 2 gobblers sound off about 100 yards away. Set up rather quickly and gave out a few calls, they gobbled one more time then went completely silent again. Heard hens yelping as well. Stayed right till 11:30 am this morning, ZIP again!! After 7 mornings so far this season, only two mornings I heard gobbles then they went silent on me. One morning called in 7 jakes, The rest complete silence. With the warmer weather coming, I suspect that things might get better. The Toms are still henned up, and don't want to play yet, at least in the places I have hunted so far. My tailbone is sorer than hell right now from sitting so dam long each day!!
  7. Thanks, I need the extra encouragement!!!
  8. Well, just got back home. Was in the woods this morning at 5:15am and stayed right until 10:30. NOT a sound by any turkeys at all!!!! Have to admit, very frustrating to say the least. Will be back out Thursday and Friday as well. HAS to change pretty soon!!!
  9. I agree about the lack of gobbling, and with the weather statement. and the fact of being henned up. But, male turkeys gobble to attract the females, mother nature at it's finest there. I have seen similar years in the past, but they will start to come around towards the end of the month. The "breeding cycle" is the culprit. Once most of the hens have been taken care of the gobblers will be more vocal. Like Pygmy has said, you just have to be there when they start to open up. Today and through this weekend the temps are finally starting to heat up. My thoughts are the hens have been waiting for this all along too. They don't want their polt's to be hatched until all the bugs, etc. are out in all their glory and the weather plays a important part. Timing is everything.
  10. My two favorite pursuits are spring turkey season, and the fall bow season. Love them both, although it would be a tuff call, but spring season takes the lead by a smidge!!! LOL
  11. Just curious, did you think about reloading your own? You would never run out of your favorite rounds, and they can be taylor made for your gun to boot.
  12. Always sorry to hear sad news. His memories will always be with you forever.
  13. I know the feeling!! But you done good......hopefully the town will come by soon to get the branches!!
  14. I never thought that a Pileated Woodpecker would feed off a feeder?
  15. Love the owl calls as well. If you ever heard a owl "laugh", it sounds just like some monkeys at the zoo!!!
  16. Wowza, snow today???? No wonder the birds aren't talking!!!! Think the rest of this month should be much better for turkey hunting, been a bust so far for me. The woods have been as quiet as a church the last two weeks!!! Except for some jakes, haven't seen a hen or a Gobbler yet!!!
  17. Happy Anniversary Danno!!! Hope the next 41 years will be as great!!!
  18. Congrats, bet that sure made her day!!!
  19. At 61 it's tuffer to loose, but I am still with the program. We like to walk and ride bikes as much as we can besides trying to eat healthier too. Was 258 lbs. at my highest, down to 224 lbs. presently. Trying to hit 200 by September. "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels"!!!
