  1. I like to have something in the background , for those with sharp eyes to find. Also a Shania Twain autographed CD ......
  2. I ve had great luck with my LW hand climber over the years . Some of my best hunts actually . Dont use it much any more , as I age tend to favor ladders and a few hang ons with climbing sticks pre set .
  3. Quikclot combat gauze, 4x4s, moleskin and so on , and lots of experience plugging GSW and such. Just did not mention it as survival gear , which I guess it is .
  4. This guy never made it another year, died about 1/2 mile from my couch....
  5. Ok this is the few minute window I've been sotting here for.... oh and a low phone battery
  6. Heading down to my spot in an hour, just gotta find my camo flip flops and tank top..... New stand in a transition from bedding to staging area trail.
  7. I try to build my stuff off the rule of 3. In general terms, ( environmental and physical factors can influence it ) one can survive 3 weeks without food, 3 days without water , but if you can't stay warm and dry you can die overnight. Outside of proper clothes, the one thing I would always carry would be a contractor grade trash bag. Cut a corner into a hood and one can use it as a rain coat that covers most of your body, I wouldn't do arm holes, if sheltering over night in it . Build a debris hut and cut it open to make a large sheet that can be used over the roof . Very handy, many uses. Bic lighters are cheap and easy to carry, I advise placing them in a zip loc bag with some fire starters . When they get wet it takes some time for them to dry out. I also advise practicing building fires in the woods, under all conditions , no, a stack of dry wood, 3 newspapers and a can of lighter fuild doesn't count . I also carry water proof wind proof matches, the ones I use can be lit, placed under water , pulled out and they relight on their own ! A length of para cord helps greatly in shelter building, and also works as a haul line, and tying to sticks one can drag a deer if needed. Add in my knife and flashlight , I'm good although I tend to carry more most times. In the big woods a Lifestraw and bottle of water, well I carry the water in the farm woods as well. If you carry a fixed blade knife , one of the thing I used to do is place a Bic against the sheath, then wrap para cord around the sheath and Bic, stuff a contractor bag in your pocket and your better prepaired then many, with little bulk or effort.
  8. I've been asking that question ever since , American Sportsman, with Curt Gowdy went off the air......
  9. Not a scent or lure guy. A couple years back I tried Ever Calm. Some young ones checked it out and one young buck licked it off the branch, that was about it . Now myself next time I think I'd put it on a stick and jab it into the ground wether then smear it on a tree or branch, I'm not sure leaving it by my stand 24x7 for days or weeks at a time is something I'd want to do again .
  10. The younger the deer the better tasting . Now a fawn will not yeild a lot of meat, but to,me it's by far the best tasting. Although I try not to,take them on purpose anymore as I don't want to kill a button buck . If you'er looking to FILL the freezer shoot a big doe, if you'er looking for the sweetest meat drop a couple small ones. Some won't take the Mom this early either ...... a 1 1/2 or 2 1/2 year old doe should taste just fine . As for cost of processing the small ones , mine gives me a break ( although most don't, but I bring him a lot of deer and customers ). Honestly between all the money we spend on hunting processing is a drop in the bucket . ie guys buys a camp and 7k atv but thinks $80 to process fawn is a lot of money LOL !!!!
  11. I always enjoyed his posts , hope he enjoyed his Bday.
  12. Being a gin guy, I enjoy a properly made Tom Collins. I recommend The Revelry on University ave. Not my kinda crowd, but the know how to make a drink.
  13. They're all edible , it's just that some will kill you. Very similar to Mrs. 302's cooking .....
  14. I got no problem letting kids Hunt from stands , however that comparison is just wrong. While nobody compiles numbers of tree stand accidents I know plenty of guys, who broke femurs , ribs, tib/ fibs, degloved fingers , as well as took screw in steps to ribs causing damage . Ask anyone who works in an ER dept how many injured hunters they see each year from falls, then ask about school shootings. i would say herioin od's may exceed falls though, at least where I work.
  15. Not hunting, put a new seat on this stand and moved it to what I think will be a great spot. Then patrolling the land for weekend warriors . Wind looks good for me to hunt a new set, Tue afternoon then this one Wed AM.
  16. I sit 2-3 hours per sit , if I go 2 sits without seeing a deer, I'm disappointed . Well really one sit, two I'm really ticked off .
  17. https://www.sturdysafe.com/ for a little more then Liberty's, with far far more security , price includes tax and shipping. Watch their videos . They don't advertise as they don't have too.
  18. Working nights at the firehouse ...... To busy to cook last night, we're making up for it tonight !
  19. This section of the forum gets very little traffic, you really should post this in say General hunting , or a picture area , many here would love to see these shots .
  20. Congrats ! Nice job and nice pics .
  21. Anyone thinking of buying a gun safe should read this. http://gunsafereviewsguy.com/articles/myths-about-gun-safe-theft-protection/2/
  22. This is the only other one I got .... I believe the amount of work that lied ahead in getting it out may have speeded up,the photo ops.
